Poli: “Wearing the Milan shirt is a dream come true”

ANDREA POLI and Riccardo Saponara were presented on Monday before the first training of the season.

There were a few new faces at Milanello today and two of them were the ones of Ricky Saponara and Andrea Poli who will play for the Rossoneri next season after making moves from Empoli and Sampdoria (Poli’s transfer not official but certain).

Both Saponara and Poli are Milan fans and for them coming to Milan means more than just making a step ahead in their careers. Saponara, who has been compared by Adriano Galliani to Kaka, and Poli, were very happy to be presented today.

“I am very happy to be here. Wearing the Milan shirt is a dream come true because I am a Milan fan,” Poli, who is joining Milan on a co-ownership deal from Samp, told the press at Milanello. “I do not think about anyone who has not believed in me because I want to think only of Milan and not think of the past. I cannot wait to start training with my team-mates.

“The World Cup? “I think about it, wearing the blue shirt would be a great satisfaction and I have been part of it. Samp and I were always close and I thank them for allowing me to come here today. Milan is a great team and I think they can help me to move forward in the national team.” The 23-year-old midfielder was on Cesare Prandelli’s provisional squad for the 2013 Confederation Cup, but unlike five of his new Milan teammates, he didn’t make the final cut and stayed in his home-country.

“I thank Doctor Galliani for the comparison he made with me and Kakà. I am someone who still has a lot to learn,” said Saponara. “[Milan target] Keisuke Honda? I saw him play on TV. I think that he is an excellent player. I followed him in a few appearances even if I do not know him very well. The World Cup and my jersey number? I do not preclude anything. I will play to gain space in Milan and find a way to influence Prandelli positively. Number 22? I do not see it as a burden, I’ve not decided.” Galliani interjected: “We’ll let the players choose their own shirt numbers. We don’t make that decision for them.”

The press fully expects Poli to be a starting XI player alongside Riccardo Montolivo and Nigel De Jong in midfielder. Saponara could take the attacking midfield role but currently has Kevin-Prince Boateng ahead of him in the pecking order.

Poli: hopefully better than Nocerino
Saponara: hopefully will get serious playing time
Honda: not being able to get him for 3-4 mil is really pathetic
defense: we definitely need some serious quality there

Forza Milan!!

Alessandro

Paying 3-4 Millions for a 4 Month Contract doesnt seem to be a good idea. If it was for at least a 1 or 1.5 years Contract paying 5 millions would be ok. Atletico Madrid Just bought a 3year contract for Villa for 5millions.

It’s not about the money, it’s about the mentality and transfer policy. We only look for bargains, cheap deals, co-ownerships and free players lately….

Juninho

Who controls the money is Berlusconi, Galliani only closes deals.

Juninho

Better than nothing.

Benvenuto Andrea e Riccardo! All the best of luck to you guys! Love it that we have so many Milanistas in our team:
Abate, Antonini, De Sciglio, Montolivo, Poli, Saponara, Balo and El Shaarawy. Honda is also one of them, once/if he’ll join. Maybe I’ve forgotten someone.

abbiati for sure! are u sure montolivo is? like a legit fan?

karth

Oh trust me, montolivo is a true Milan fan. There was only one club he thought of after becoming a free agent from fiorentina and it was Milan. He’s been a fan since he was a kid, he himself told that!

Milanista121

I thought of Abbia, but I wasn’t sure if he was a fan or not, but he sure is a Milanista by a long time ago ;)
Montolivo and his family are all Milanistas, at least he said it a while ago!

flooresens

fyi Abbiatti’s family are Interista

johnnn

sell rrobi
put boa on mid-field
and buy honda for trequartista position
then get a good cb
!!

D-Bo

Great to get those deals done. Now how about some stud central defenders.

Chudy

For someone who feels Boa is overrated am not surprised abt El Greco comments.. Having said that Boa needs to find all the portions that made him special 2yrs ago.. Why fault our transfer policy..We can wait for Honda’s contract to run out..like we did Montolivo..the man has said he wants only Milan.. MDS already an instant hit in Milan and Azzuris..SES, Monty and Abate all regulars in the national team even Cassano that wore the hallowed #10 for Azzuris lost his place when he left Milan cos he felt he knew better than B&G.. Money doesnt win titles consistency… Read more »

Great job, they are young and have a prospect…the squad is enough just take cb and ss for robinho replace if he sold to santos…

hyde

Cant wait to see the season start. I really curious how good ricky is.. id be glad if milan bring Albertazzi back. He is very good defender.

udochukwu

I hv double thougts on honda. Yes paying 5m for some who’d b free in 6mths is quite much. What of if he gets injured for 6mths, or is fatigued due to d confed. G i’m behind u…do whatever u deem right.

milanLEGENDS

good to see u guys in red and black. we need robinho out and replacing him with ljajic. then Honda should be brought asap, not in January, so that he can be eligible for the uefa champions league. as for the defense, I think we are ok for now. remember vergara is around, and he is doing great. we can even bring back albertiza

TWF

Seriously, milan have to sell robinho and boateng. Both players are lazy and visionless. They don’t help their teammates to get the ball back if milan lose the ball in midfields.

AC Milan true fan

That’s good signing…. And what we need right now is a Goalkeeper who have a real talent and 2 Defenders/centre back & 1 left back…. And one Winger and we are enough…. FORZA AC MILAN
