Milan: Ibrahimovic is the new No. 10

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC will replace Clarence Seedorf as the Rossoneri’s number 10 jersey wearer.

Seedorf confirmed his exit today (Thursday) after 10 beautiful and successful years in the red & black jersey and it has already been decided who will the take his Number 10 shirt next season: Ibrahimovic.

Ibra asked for this jersey when he was signed from Barcelona back in the summer of 2010 but it was occupied at the time. However, now that Seedorf is out of the team, the striker is getting the iconic number.

Seedorf: “Milan, I am leaving a family”

“The number 10 shirt will be given to Zlatan Ibrahimovic,” confirmed Adriano Galliani at Seedorf’s farewell press conference. “I never asked for the 10, I inherited it from Manuel Rui Costa. But I’ve spoken to Ibra and told him that I would be pleased if it was passed to him – he deserves it,” Clarence then commented.

“Ibra and I talked about it a while ago in the shower in the changing rooms. I told Ibra that if I left Milan, then I would be happy to see him wearing the number 10 shirt at Milan,” Seedorf later told Sky Sport 24. Ibrahimovic has been Milan’s No. 11 for the past two seasons but he’ll now use the number he uses in the Swedish national team squad. Ibra’s Euro 2012 adventure is already over as Sweden got knocked out.

Seedorf joined Milan in 2002 from city rivals Inter and it took Milan “15-20 days” to convince Seedorf. He surely doesn’t regret agreeing. The player won many titles with Milan including the Champ. League twice.

“Seedorf will become an important person in world football when he retires from football,” Galliani praised the Dutchman. “It’s been 10 wonderful years with Seedorf. He’s a super player both as a mezz’ala and as a trequartista. Seedorf is the foreigner who’s played the most matches for Milan – more than 400 matches.

“Seedorf has often played well for Milan in these 10 years. Seedorf played 43 matches on average per year at Milan. That’s an amazing feat. I don’t know if anyone will manage to beat that record. Seedorf has won 4 and a half Champions League titles and he knows why. Seedorf won the CL with Ajax, Real Madrid and Milan, but he also won half a Champions League title with Real Madrid before he went to Inter. Seedorf has had an extraordinary career and when we played well, Seedorf played well. This is the absolute truth.”

Galliani also confirmed that Milan are “still missing a midfielder to make the squad complete” and said that Seedorf can do anything he wants in his future: be a coach, a director or work in international institutions.

I don’t understand how one wins, half a Champions League, doe he get only half of the trophy?

I assume that’s when you get knocked out in the final as in the case of 2005.

Thanks for everything, I hope Ibra will grace the shirt as well as you have. As for the midfielder, I hope it will be a new dutchman, Kevin Strootman, I hope MvB does his best to persuade him, and that he’s worth all this hype, he seems like a complete midfielder and can only become better. But I wouldn’t say we’re complete, I really hope that we make Balzaretti join us as well as left back as has been rumoured, I really do. THEN, we will be complete. Of course we have to let go of some dead weight, as… Read more »

I hope Ibra will be even more lethal in his new jersey number, with #11 he scored 56 times in just 2 seasons,so that’s be hard to beat, want it?

Rodrigo Moraes

Cassano really deserved this # 10 much more than Ibra.

half a champions league probably means when d player joined d winning team in d january transfer market…n i’ll really want 2 c el-sharawwiy in d no 11 shirt.

Thanks for everything. Willy Wonka was always one of my favourite Milan players a true shame he never shone for the Dutch NT. The new cycle has begun and hopefully this will be another successful one. For replacement of Seedorf I would suggest Wijnaldum from PSV he’s quick, creative and skillful and still quite young. While we are at it also Strootman as MVB 2.0 as Strootman has that eye for goal and helps buildup play a lot. With these 2 young Dutchmen which wont cost more than 25mil I think we can compete for many more years.

I think giving it to Ibra is perfectly appropriate.

if ibra becomes out number 10, we will go unbeaten next season

Does that mean the number 10 & 11 were in the shower together Jokes apart. Well done Seedorf and lets wait and see if Ibra does justice to that number. One thing no one can take away from Clarence is the CL victory with three different clubs, Ibra won’t do that for sure.
