2023 Summer mercato comes to an end

Milan signed 10 players this summer, while recording the biggest sale in their history and allowing some players to leave.

After finishing 4th in Serie A and securing Champions League football for the third consecutive time, Milan went to the transfer market with new leaders in charge: Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio, who replaced the sacked Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara in the sporting area.

Marco Sportiello and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were signed before the month of July, but what really kicked off the mercato of the Diavolo was the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle. The midfielder, who will face Milan in the Champions League Group Stage, was sold for €70m plus bonuses and this allowed Milan to invest heavily and bring in a number of players in different areas.

Luka Romero, Christian Pulisic, Tijjani Reijnders, Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze all joined during July, while two more faces arrived in August: Yunus Musah and Marco Pellegrino. Milan were trying hard to sign another striker in the last days of the mercato: negotiating for Mehdi Taremi, Patson Daka and Rafa Mir, but ultimately they got Luka Jović.

Milan also sent away some players: Zlatan Ibrahimović retired from football, while Sergiño Dest and Aster Vranckx were not bought out. Ante Rebić, Junior Messias, Charles De Ketelaere, Alexis Saelemaekers and Lorenzo Colombo all find themselves in new clubs. Divock Origi and Fodé Ballo-Touré also left for the Premier League but Mattia Caldara stays due to a lack of offers.
