Saelemaekers: “It’s a beautiful moment and we won for Pioli too, to have the trust of the coach is a great thing”

Alexis Saelemaekers has stated that ‘we work very hard during the week to perform well, and to transfer that work to the field is great’ after beating Fiorentina 2-0 at San Siro.

Milan beat the Viola at home today to extend their lead at the top of the Serie A table to 5 points (at least temporarily).

Saelemaekers played a big part in the win as he won the Rossoneri a penalty which Franck Kessié converted and was overall excellent down the right flank of Milan.

“It’s a great thing for me, to have the trust of the coach is a great thing,” Alexis told MilanTV at the end of the game. “I’m happy that I was able to help the team again today, and I need to continue like this in every game. Pioli? We know the coach is going through a difficult moment, so we played for him and we won for him once again today so we are happy.

“The team work? We work very hard during the week to perform well, and to transfer that work to the field is great. I think we need to continue doing what we’re doing, working like this in every game and I think we are on the right path.”

Speaking to Sky, the 21-year-old Belgian added: “It’s a beautiful moment. For the coach it’s a difficult period and we played and won for him too. We are all happy. My moment? The club and the coach have given me confidence, I only do the work the coach asks of me during training. I’m happy with what I can do on the pitch.

“The alleged penalty in the second half? For me it was also a penalty but I haven’t seen the images. The team? We work hard, we are happy with what we can do.”
