Mattia De Sciglio and Davide Calabria will be in the squad for Sunday’s match, although Leonel Vangioni is still tipped to start, while Gustavo Gomez is preferred over Cristian Zapata.
Milan will hope to break the Sassuolo taboo on Sunday when they player Eusebio Di Francesco’s side at Mapei Stadium (15:00 CET kickoff) and coach Montella received some good news.
As reported on acmilan.com, Mattia De Sciglio has completed the last two training sessions along with the rest of the squad and he and Davide Calabria are likely to be able to play the Neroverdi.
De Sciglio has been unavailable since the match with Udinese where he was badly fouled by Rodrigo De Paul. Calabria, meanwhile, has been struggling with injuries all season. Today’s La Gazzetta dello Sport still expects Leonel Vangioni to play from the start against Sassuolo but that’s not certain yet. Milannews.it also suggests that Gustavo Gomez is preferred over Cristian Zapata and is expected to get the nod and play alongside Gabriel Paletta as center back Alessio Romagnoli is still injured.
Manuel Locatelli, Gianluca Lapadula and Patrick Cutrone also returned to training yesterday after spending a few days with the Italian national team (first team and U19) while injured captain Riccardo Montolivo, as written on the club’s official website, underwent specific training at Milanello.
Probable XI, according to today’s GdS (could of course change until Sunday): Donnarumma; Abate, Gustavo Gomez, Paletta, Vangioni; Kucka, Jose Sosa, Pasalic; Suso, Bacca, Deulofeu.

Sometimes I like to dream a bit for Next Season.Im sure this team will be much better.
Donnarumma
Calabria Lindeloff Romagnoli MDS
Kucka Locatelli Bonaventura
Suso alexis Sanchez
Belotti/Mbappe
lmao you lining up your fantasy 11 and still bona is in it. and lindeloff?????
Rest Suso and play Gerard. In the midfield, play Poli, Kucka, Locatelli
So u dont know? SOSA is now on fire. Go an update urself bro. He is settling in dear, no one can interupt
I still want to see a midfield with kucko sosa locatelli
I am just glad that I can make a comment on a new article. As for these two, they are very welcome now given that Vangioni showed us that he can’t defend whatsoever even tho in attack he is more useful than all of our full backs combined. Berrardi could crush him. And against dangerous Sassuolo I prefer this setup:
GK:Gigio
Def:Abate,Gomez,Paletta,Vangioni
Mf:Kucka,Sosa,Loca
At:Suso,Lapa,Deulofeu
Finally! Its safer to play Vangioni since both of them have just returned to full fitness, but Vangioni against our horror opponent Berardi… I dont know man, let’s hope he does well if he starts. Good to have them back, and Gomez should definitely start ahead of Zapa, and if the probably formations are correct, then its the right thing to keep playing Sosa, he needs to play more so he gets more consistency to his play. I still want to see him in the midfield with Kucka and Loca. Loca’s technical abilities might excell even more if played further… Read more »
MDS is right footed while Berardi is left footed.. this means that MDS has above average potential to block Berardi’s shots. With that assumptions I prefer MDS over vangioni.
Suso is tired we can try
Ocampos
Good news for Milan as De Sciglio most def is a better left back and will guarantee more defensively. Hopefully Antonelli shakes off his injury soonest too so the squad can look better.
I’d like to thank Vangioni as he tried his best in our injury crisis but he was horrible against Lazio and in general he’s a disaster waiting to happen. I know many people won’t agree but De Sciglio is our best full-back, he might not be spectacular specially in attack but he brings balance and security to the left hand side. We need him against Berardi.
This… Its no coincidence that our defence looked the most solid -and for a little while we had the most clean sheets in the top five leagues in europe – when we played Abate-Paletta-Romagnoli-De Sciglio. De Sci is so underrated with our fans. I agree that he hasnt looked at his best for the past two seasons, but from the end of last season, when Brocchi took over, and the Euros, he has gotten more and more solid. You really summed it up well, he isnt a spectacular rampaging full back, as for example Marcelo – who lacks defensively btw… Read more »
De Sciglio are our best fullback when he is on form, unfortunately he have struggled with his confidence. Under Montella he seem to have fixed the mental problem with De Sciglio. i know he have been seeing a mental coach for some time and we all can see he is finding himself again. When he got a consistent run on right back under Seedorf he was arguably the best right back in the league. None could get past him. Abate is to Reckless and aggressive imo. Can’t blame Vangioni for struggling. He have not played all year and have no… Read more »
De sciglio looks mean !! I like his new look :)
…”is preferred over Cristian Zapata” – 5 of my favorite words in the English language.
Something disturbing about that pic. I think sciglio need to eat more. He looks so tiny…..
Btw, welcome back meytar. first article in few week that not about “line up and chat” :)
De sciglio and donna look like italian backstreet boys without facial hair. Maybe de sciglio’s new look can instill fear into hearts of opposing wingers
I really wonder what the coach has with bacca, let’s play lapadula
U never Wonder What he has with Pasalic? He is too slow to Play in midfield of 3 plus he is Very Poor defensively
Ever since Mds injured, we became porous at back
De Sciglio had some mental issues in the past, Milan also hired a therapist for him and he said that the boy is on the edge of depression. I think he’s still not totally stable
