Serginho believes Montella will do well at Milan and says that ‘a person like Paolo Maldini is difficult to find in the world.’
Next month Milan will be sold to Chinese investors and that will mark the end of Silvio Berlusconi’s 30 years in charge.
The last years haven’t been successful and Serginho – who was there when things were going much better for the Rossoneri (1999 to 2008) – is sad to see Berlusconi ‘walk out’ like this (he will remain as Honorary President) as he hopes Milan can turn things around as soon as possible.
“Milan? There are smart people in the club who know how to change,” Serginho, 45, said in an interview to Milannews.it. “At any moments things will change, hopefully as soon as possible. It’s been 2-3 years that Milan haven’t been playing well and we hope that things can change.
“Berlusconi? I’m very sorry to see his story at Milan come to an end in this way, he’s always had love for the club. He’s a person who has given so much and I hope that those who come will give at least half of the love that Berlusconi has provided to this club and this city.
“Maldini [who has been offered a role in the new management]? When you talk of Milan you talk of Maldini. He has extraordinary force and someone with his story must have space in the club. I hope he can find a place as soon as possible, a person like Paolo is difficult to find in the world.
“Montella? We see that the team is slowly taking his shape and the way he plays. He has done well in the past and I think he will also do so at Milan. Bacca? I love him, he’s a player who has a great desire to win, even when things don’t go well. What impresses me the most about him is his desire to win.”
