Vincenzo Montella would have liked a defender and a midfielder for this summer but the budget approved for this market doesn’t really allow Milan to do much.
There are 2 days left for the transfer market and after the matches against Torino and Napoli it became even clearer that Milan are in need for reinforcements.
The Rossoneri, who this summer failed to get most of their top targets and had to settle for other players, are still linked with defenders and midfielders but the media at the same time makes it clear that the budget of Milan is too low for them to get the players on the top of their wish list.
Montella joked this week that ‘maybe the Chinese sent the check to the wrong address’, referring to Inter spending heavily on Joao Mario and Gabigol (he was then forced to post a public clarification that he was only joking) and in a way he’s not wrong as the money from China is still not here.
The €85 million from the new owners will only arrive in September (most likely on the 9th) but of course the summer transfer market will be closed then. This could be why Milan are already thinking about the January mercato and Gianluca Di Marzio claims Milan ‘insist’ for Rodrigo Caio.
Ideally Milan would like to bring Caio now as the Brazilian, who impressed in the Olympics winning a gold medal, just received his Italian passport. But Sao Paulo, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, are asking for at least €10 million which is a lot of money for the Rossoneri at the moment.
Contacts between the concerning parties are ongoing and Milan are trying to secure the transfer of the 23-year-old CB / defensive midfielder for the next time the transfer market opens. Gazzetta also adds that over the weekend Milan tried to make another attempt for Mateo Musacchio of Villarreal but things haven’t really changed from the start of the summer and they still can’t afford him.
In addition to another center back (Mediaset brings up the idea of Andrea Ranocchia on loan from Inter but it’s a rumour that reappears in every window), Montella would also like a midfielder to play in front of the defense, which is the position of club captain Riccardo Montolivo.
Di Marzio, who made it clear that if Milan sign a midfielder then it will not be Juventus’ Hernanes, claims that the Diavolo could make a last-minute attempt to sign Milan Badelj from Fiorentina but there is no sufficient budget to convince the Viola to let one of the top players go.
il Corriere della Sera reports that no extra budget is expected to be approved for the last 2 days of the summer which means that if Milan do manage to get someone, it’ll have to be on loan.
I like that milan are starting to use some sense again in managing their transfer activities Badelj will most likely not come this mercato but i’ll very much love if caio comes in january. Judging from what i saw in olympics, he reminds me of few good old brazilian defenders who’re not only rock solid but could also play football so well that they could play as DM/CM (ts33, lucio, aldair, david luiz). Couldn’t agree more. Try Joshua Kimmich of Muenchen. He played in the German national team despite his young age. He has good defensive skills, a good supplement to our more offensive CB. But do we have the money? Hehehe. I guess that is another question to ask, isn’t it? I also have a similar opinion regarding Rodrigo Caio. Regarding de sciglio current situation, to me his is different than monto’s. With monto, whether he performs well or badly, milan cant make him center of building project as he’s already on the wrong side of 30. De sciglio is still young, as young as aubameyang, darmian,cudicini, di canio were when they left milan i remember certain then-young and upcoming fullback panucci who played like champion in THAT milan side but gradually got worse after being transfered to madrid. Caio would be a good addition. I heard Jack Wilshere is available for a loan, although I am not a big fan, I think if Mauri leaves he would make a good addition to our below par midfield. This way we can have a Bonaventura, Kucka, Wilshere midfield, although I prefer Bona as a LW.

Caio would be welcome, as well as Badelj, as he is a player our midfield really lacks… But thinking of centre backs. Caceres is out there and Liverpools Sakho seems to be on the market. We should go for one of them. Caceres is available on free transfer – which is ideal for us- and Sakho could definitely be available on loan i bet. currently, Milan is a team in the making. It will take probably 2yrs for the team to become what we all expected and hope it to be. The foundation is already in place -several young (U24) players. Football like most other things in life is a cycle. Iam confident in two years Milan will be challenging Scudetto and CL.

Irrelevant news for this window. I am all for keeping this squad that we have and loaning one winger in this window. Then in January Montella knows who to keep and who to sell. Up until January management can plan, watch players and see the ones that fit Montella’s style and formation. That is the only way for us too keep building team right with sense.
Last 5 years we just bought players randomly and that is why we are in this situation,one of the examples : too many full backs, no backup wingers.

From what i have seen of his playing style, he could really help us, but first we have to sell some of our players, i’m tired of naming them. Also we need our legends to help rebuild Milan, i’m afraid we could become another Chelsea or Manchester City without them.

A chain is truly as strong as its weakest link. Milan’s main problem (the weakest link) is Ricardo Montolivo, the captain (probably the worst captain in Milan’s history). I wonder what Galliani was thinking when he approved the renewal of Monti’s contract. He should be shipped out to England, Turkey or the US. I would prefer Younes Belhanda to play behind the attack.
