GANSO, linked regularly with Milan, recently played a league game in Brazil that Rossoneri Blog writer, Tony Scerra, was able to watch in person.
This past Saturday, I was in Goiania, Brazil and had the opportunity to see Santos play Atlético Goianiense. Most everyone, especially the teenage girls, were watching Neymar and hoping for something spectacular.
I, however, had my eyes on one person, Ganso. Even when the ball was in Santos’s end of the field, I watched Ganso to see his positioning and how he reacted to different situations. With Milan as one of the favorites to snatch the highly rated trequartista, I decided to write this post to give a preview to fans that may not know much about Ganso.
Montolivo ultimatum
Cassano for Borriello?
First off, I have to say that after watching this game, I truly think that our Mr. X should be Ganso. With his vision and passing ability, he would be dishing out assist after assist to Ibra and Pato. Best-case scenario in my opinion would be either Montolivo or Aquilani in this transfer window then Ganso after he plays in the Club World Club with Santos.
Now, onto Ganso’s on field characteristics. He plays very simple. You won’t see him take 3 or 4 touches on the ball very often. He knows where he will play the ball before he receives it. His strongest attributes are his field vision and his field awareness. The ball switches the field in 2 touches when he gets it. He has both the possession mindset and the killer pass ability. Seeing him with Zlatan and Pato would just be unfair. His passing is truly a joy to watch. If people make runs, he will get them the ball. The connections he made with Neymar were very easy on the eyes. Whether its switching the field in 2 touches or playing that through ball behind the defense, Ganso had the technique and creativity to make goal scoring opportunities out of nothing.
One characteristic of his that surprised me was his physical stature. He’s very tall. His heading ability seemed to be above average as he rose and won headballs on 2-3 corners (both defensively and offensively). He didn’t seem to be very aggressive, but my Brazilian friend told me that he has been a little timid since he blew out his knee about a year ago.
Let me clear up one misunderstanding, Ganso is not Kaka. Kaka could dazzle us with a 70 yard run where he dribbles by 5 defenders and slots the ball into the back of the net. Ganso does not have the speed of Kaka. When you’re watching him, he seems like he is not trying (this may be because 1 day before the game, he flew in from Germany after international duty with Brazil). He is deceptively crafty, and uses his long body very well to buy extra time on the ball waiting for runs to develop.
It would not be fair to my readers if I did not go into the negatives about Ganso. His #1 weakness is his work rate. For a significant portion of the game he spent walking or jogging (particularly when Santos was being countered). This hurt Santos on the defensive end, but also on the offensive end. Magic was created when the ball is on his foot, but he did not have the ball as much as a player of his skills should have. Another area that needs improving is his defensive mindset. More often than not he was standing at the midfield/center center area and waited until his team won the ball back instead of helping his teammates win it back.
Now these areas of limitation for Ganso are very correctable issues. The trequartista in Allegri’s system is designed to help out on the defensive end. He doesn’t have to tackle like Van Bommel but more so needs to make life difficult for the opposing team so that our bulldog midfield can win it and begin the counter.
Ganso would slot perfectly into Allegri’s midfield as a pass-first trequartista. Assists would be scattered like there were when Ronaldinho roamed the left wing at the San Siro, The classic #10. Milan is missing the creative piece to connect the midfield to the attack. Ganso would not only fill this void, but with the experience he has already gained as a starter for the Brazilian Seleccao at only 21 years of age, he would put Milan in serious contention for every competition they enter, including the Champion’s League.

thiago alcantra? lol…kill your self, barca wont sell him even they have fabregas..be realistic guys…
afiz
i agree +1
i see us getting balotelli, montolivo and maybe aquilani as a bonus. if we get ganso it will be in january…but who really knows?
no need for balotelli or any other strikers. our midfield is fucking shit….
so far our market has been terrible tbh…we’ve signed a teenager from serie b, a CB who is coming back from a torn ACL, and a less than convincing LB…..
hopefully we sign some world class mids in the next few days…otherwise we are fucked.
how is taiwo less then convincing? grow up please.
he hasn’t played well at all…
anyhow, our market has been a huge letdown, much like last summers.
hopefully unlce fester surprises us..haha
man he really made a lot of mistakes against robben the second best winger in the world, and it was his first game and he doesnt speak the same language as anybody on the team yet.but wait, he actually played pretty well under those circumstances. sounds like a terrible player to me.
taiwo didn’t make hardly any mistakes against robben… you dont know what you’re talking about. he’s played quite well for just joining.
my mistake rossonero23. Sorry 4 that.
I’m a little bit confused. My comment before is for rossonero26.
Bcoz he or she already said b4 that he or she would leave this blog if someone call him giancarlo again.
Isn’t it rossoneri23?
Juan Manuel Vargas is not a bad idea. Ganso is overrated
we dont use wingers though.
maybe Raiola is in London for Modric. I can only hope..lmao.
maybe he’s going for nasri. hell, it could even be bale (hope not)…so, modric or nasri? anybody
i would be a little concerned about nasri.
isn’t he a better winger, then AM???? or am I wrong?
guys, did u watch the game barca vs madrid? imo, kaka is unable to show his best performance at madrid simply because of his heart is not at madrid. kaka is a good man who believes in God and i am pretty sure that he cannot leave with evil-minded people around him like marcelo, pepe and mourinho. they are all evil-like bastards! they will always play dirty in order to win the game. they don’t deserve any respects from football lovers around the world. i am sad to see good men like kaka, ozil and sahin to play for a… Read more »
i prefer young player.
But the truth , i dont care bcoz i believe milan will rise again as the dream team with a lot of preparation and hardwork.
i think nasri..
Great skill, not yet a worldwide footballer player.
But he is need to improve his teamworks to play with milan.
now we are going to sign no players ever again? some of you guys are ridiculous. same people who said the same crap before we signed robinho and ibra.
rossoneri26, i want your answer.
Why dont you just leave this blog just like you said?
I just want an answer.
where the hell did i say i was going to leave this blog you clown? you got your answer. im not going anywhere. and that was to one of the editors not to you.
the latest: KAKA TO PSG. thats what im hearing. that’s where LEo is… makes a lot of sense.
does make sense. p$g should sign Maicon as well..lol
Zac. I pray is Modric or Nasri awell. Bale? That guy is just another overrated player and i hope he never puts on a Milan jersey. I’d rather we sign either Erikson, Hazard, Marchisio, jovetic or m’ villa. Even Miralem Pjanic or liverpool Raul M. would be my first choice ahead of bale. BUT THAT’S JUST ME THOUGH. FORZA MILAN.
bale is a winger too… and we don’t play with wingers… hes not a midfielder…
Heheh Kaka to PSG? Lol why would he go there when in truth he has a chance to play in Milan. I am pretty sure that he is preparing to make his return.
he has no chance of playing in milan. he is not preparing any return. he is going with leo to PSG from what i hear. PSG have the money to pay big… we aren’t going to pay big to madrid for him. kaka is not returning to milan!!! this is fantastic news.
D.Villa insulted lslam :s now l really hate Barcelona.
How did he??? I want to c that…..I would want an extra reason to hate them………..
yea…Oezil should of beat the shit out of him..
spanish football is disgusting…
you already forget what you said.. Damn, maybe you had a brain tumor. Lol
i don’t care, i just want an answer and it’s up to u.
What a personality you had.
Learn some manners.
Kaka to psg, i think its make sense and i agree with u.
Also, i believe milan would sign a new player.
you are the one with a f-cking brain tumor. what i said was to pete acquaviva and not you. i’m not going anywhere and i never “promised” to leave. you learn some manners and stop bringing it up every single time you have a chance! I NEVER PROMISED A DAMN THING.
Please stop asking him to leave the blog. He’s one of the only people who talks sense.
pipe down pete.:):)
Ronaldinho called up for Brazil Friendly against ghana…. Marcelo makes it too and kaka is still left out……
You know I cant wait until the 31st. Because at that day I would be laughing at you because I know he is returning.
Tbh, I prefer Ganso or any other young trequartista rather than Kaka. But at the moment we are in severe need of a creative player and Kaka is the answer.
Come on we all know he cant be the player he once was but still he is better than any of our so called trequartistas.
when he joins PSG you’ll be crying your ass off. we don’t need kaka. i’d rather we play el sharaawy or seedorf.
kaka is finished as a player and wants a big money move right now. you don’t know anything. he’s not returning. you’re wrong once again.
*laughing my ass off lol…
no way..Kaka is far better than past it seedorf..lol..or the serie b king, el shaarawy..
still, we need a younger attacking mid, like ganso.
Its true that Villa insulted Islam. Mesut Ozil is an honest person. I dont like Madrid but recently I want them to beat craplona every time they face each other. Shit-lona.
Villa is an Asshole……insulting religions and slapping Ozil……Barca players should really learn manners
one of the only? I just asking a question.
And the other people in here doesnt make sense?
Think again. Many people in here is better!
Make sense with nonsense. Lol.
@rossonero26, you are not a wise guy hah? Lol.
I dont care what you said bcoz im not a same person like you.
Brain tumor.. It’s funny haha lol.
im not going anywhere. period. i never promised anything. you got brain tumor and you forget shit. you’re a moron who can’t post a clear sentence.
If it’s true, then villa messed up big time but this is just Ozil’s side of the story anyway.
I was more surprised by Mourinho’s behavior.
Takes a cheapshot on an assistant coach, then after the match goes “who is that? never heard of him”.
He’s absolutely classless. No wonder he fit into Inter’s prime Calciopoli time.
i missed the game..lol..i had no idea the super cup second leg was yesterday..haha
luckily, they are showing a replay in a hour..haha
haha. Thanks. And you reply it? Then it goes same with you.
the truth is whether milan makes a signing or not, i don,t thk i can ever stop supporting milan, my blood is red and black.i thk uncle fester will make last minute drama lol!
i’m not from europe. My english is bad, i know that.
So forgive me guys.
Btw, peace rossoneri26. Maybe i had a brain tumor too. Lol
maybe it’s just a hoax.
I think nasri is better at am.
all u guys seriously need to relax. people here who even consider switching teams cuz milan might not sign someone else are not fans, let alone true fans. wait till august 31st theres a big surprise in store for all of us i promise u.
Taiwo is one the best left backs in the world and you’ll see it soon.
hm….i cant say i agree with that…..’the best’? Ashly Cole still the best
still…..he can improve a lot like Abate last season hopefully
We are interested in Pjanic and it would be great signing .
pjanic…come on, we can do better.
then again, we are broke and can’t afford top players.
here watchin trafeo tim…. is it me or is gattuso pretty much invisible? and vidal is quiet impressive.
Pjanic? wats the difference between him and Illic?? none….both are unproven even if the former played in CL its not MUCH……stop mentioning those two
21-27 that should be the age of the ‘Mr.X’ if we really wanna go to quarters or semis of CL that is
@rossonero23 did you ever watched Lyon? This boy is fast and his passing is impresive but best of him are free kicks.
isn’t he cup tied though?
And Ryan Pjanic was 19 when he was best player of Lyon in CL ,he scored against Real goal for quartefinals of Lyon.
BONERA IS REALLY MAKING AN HARD TARKLE ON D.MILITO…..REALL IMPRESSIVE

EMMANUELSON,ANTONIO CASSANO ARE REALLY MAKING MY NIGHT……..
I HOPE U GUYS ARE WATCHING D TIM CUP BTW JUVE,INTER AND MILAN?

DON’T EVER 4K WT D.MILITO….BEATING ODDO AND BONERA TO BY PASS MARCO AMELIA….THATS TOO BAD
Leave it up to Bonera to make one good play all year and then follow it up by getting burned (w/ Oddo) for a goal.

taiwo looked better though….
kingsley is very promising. Unfortunately 4 him that he doesnt score with that heading. He made a lot of running.
I wish to see valoti at berlu cup.
