Maignan suffered an injury to soleus muscle of his left leg, will only return to playing for Milan in 2023

Another muscular injury for Maignan, another long-term injury for Milan.

Last month Mike suffered a calf injury while on international duty and was on schedule to return to action this Saturday when Milan take on Monza at San Siro.

However, news broke today (Wednesday) that the goalkeeper suffered a new injury in today’s training session at Milanello, an injury to the soleus muscle of his left leg.

The Frenchman, who just earlier this week at the Gran Gala del Calcio won the award for the best goalkeeper in the 2021/22 season, underwent tests and he will be re-evaluated in 10 days. This, however, is a serious injury for Mike.

As reported by Milannews.it and others, Maignan’s World Cup participation is at risk. It’s clear, in any case, that he will not play again in this calendar year for Milan and will be back in 2023. Ciprian TătăruÅŸanu will continue to play between the sticks of the Rossoneri for another month.

This is awful news for Milan, who have crucial Champions League and Serie A games coming up and they were counting on Maignan. In related news, Simon Kjær has recovered and is back.
