Kalulu: “We started quite poorly but we improved, this draw is a good result, this season I feel that we are stronger”

Pierre Kalulu spoke to the press after the draw against Juventus, which could’ve been a win had his shot went in.

With Davide Calabria out injured, Coach Stefano Pioli chose to start Fik Tomori in the right-back position against Juventus last night. However, after losing Simon Kjær to a muscular injury, Pioli brought on Kalulu at the Allianz Stadium.

Kalulu had a good performance on his seasonal debut, and the 21-year-old nearly won the match for the Rossoneri – coming very close to beating Wojciech Szczęsny and giving Milan the 2-1 win.

However, in the end only Álvaro Morata (4′) and Rebić (76′) managed to get on the scoresheet. The Diavolo returned to Milano with a 1-1 draw, and on Wednesday they host Venezia.

“It has been a very long week with two really big matches. I think we started quite poorly today but then we improved. I think that this draw is a good result because we were playing in Turin and not at home,” Kalulu said in an interview with MilanTV at the end of the encounter.

On his performance and his scoring opportunity: “A shot isn’t good if it doesn’t go in… I saw the ball coming; when you get a chance like that, you need to put your foot through it. I tried but Szczęsny got in my way. It was great goalkeeping but I could and should have scored in this situation.”

On the strength of the team: “We put in the work to be strong in all matches and if you want to do well in this league then you have to play well against every team. We’ll immediately get back to working hard tomorrow in training so that we’re ready for Wednesday and all the matches that are coming up.”

Speaking to DAZN, Kalulu was asked again about his scoring chance: “The goalkeeper made a great save, I saw that the action came quickly: when it’s like that I have to come at it strong because the coach says so. I could have done better but that’s OK too.”

On how big he dreams: “This season I feel that we are stronger, everyone is ready to enter at any moment. All Milan players always want to be starters, we are focused on having a great season. Today we tried, we didn’t start very well but we managed to get a point.”
