Definitely love the idea of 442 for this Milan squad. Christophe Gaultier used this formation at Lille and Nice to devastating effect and I believe Pioli has the players to do the same at Milan.

Rebic and Giroud will be a good option upfront.

Oh no, so Leao will now have more grounds to run at and then fail to enter the box/shoot wildly?
Fun.
Just sell him to some idiot who is willing to pay 35-40mil.

Will I regret this comment after several years when some enlightened reader will remind me of it here?
Maybe.
But right now, sell him if we are so short of money that we cannot buy anyone for 6mil, 10mil etc. ffs.

Hauge scored on debut
Fuck me , locatelli , paquetta & now hauge
Why didn’t we give him a chance
He always scored when he played
Remember why we bought him
He will be worth 30 mil next season

management made a gamble. They had to decide between Hauge and Leao. They chose Leao. We will see if they made the right choice. Leao seems to have more potential but he is lazy as hell sometimes. Reminds me of Balotelli. Tons of talent but his head in the wrong place. Talent alone might get you to some places, but at this level, it wont cut it.

I havent given up on him….but then again, i never gave up on Balo

Last game Leao was gassed afther 15min of play. He has talent but he gets tired very very easy. That wont cut it at top legues. He can only be an impact sub at most.

It doesn’t make sense because today Rebic played centrally. If we are going to use Rebic centrally, then why couldn’t we keep Hauge to rotate with Leao at LW. The 12 million is not going to get us any quality winger.

Exactly! if we are not getting the money now why couldn’t we send him out on a dry loan like Chelsea and other big clubs do. It’s not like it wasn’t obvious he had talent, and he can improve on his consistency and tactical discipline out on loan. But no! Us being Milan we had to let go him cheap so we can regret it. If we are going to be buying players to sell for profit, we should at least learn from others how it is done.

Not driving the ball forward that’s what’s wrong. Both Bennacer and Kessie do it. Man even Bakayoko does it. Tonali and Pobega are just not 2 man midfield pivotal players, they are both regista type and they just won’t work in this formation.

Or maybe you’ll find out that Pioli was just not impressed with what he saw in training. For his position we need someone who can also contribute outside the box, and in the build up (not too mention on defense). Look at what Rebic does, and also salad maker (albeit without much contribution in front of goal). If he wants to be a pure LW, he needs to be able to generate roughly 20 goals a season. And be able to take on serie a level defenders and dribble pass them. I’m not sure he has it in him, and… Read more »

I watched the game and even though Hauge scored he didn’t really have a good game. He was in the right place at the right time because of his awareness and movement but he miss placed a few balls that turned into a counterattack and one could have led to a goal. Hauge needs to improve on moving the ball quicker. If given space and time he is an exceptional and at times devastating player but when closedown quickly he tends to lose the ball or make bad passes. As a lot of fans mentioned. Hauge scored at his debut playing as right forward. lots of irony in this goal and how he played in just few minutes. anyone wants to spill more magical logic behind how the lazyass Leao is better than him? any more delusional fans who thinks that Maldini/Gaizidis made this decision based on footballing measures and not because Leao has no offer? Giroud is going to be amazing this year. Guy has incredible positioning and finishing. Plus he has more pace than ibra.

We are so desperately in need of right winger. I don’t know what pioli sees in saelemaekers, but that guy is only good for back up. We struggle so much in that front 3 because if we had some creativity we’d be scoring goals for fun.

Please get us an attacking mid and a right winger.

I think, with 442 formation, we don’t have proper left midfielder. Leao is a left winger not left midfielder. Unless, we use Theo as LM

Agustinar

Samu plays better as right midfielder than right winger. I believe he can play as left midfielder also because he is a left footed. I believe he will shine in 442.

Agustinar

Rebic is more natural as a left winger who like to cut inside. Leao is a left winger who like to move wide. They are both not suitable in 442 formation.

Giroud went down in first minutes of the game. Luckily he was ok. But what if he really gets injured? Who do we have that is reliable up front? We’re heading into new season playing on several fronts and this team is weaker than last season. Still no proper AM, RW and alternative DM, RB and ST. Last night our midfield was so weak, Tomori was doing long passes up front. Last time we had that was when we played “Montella-ball” with Bonucci taking long passes up front. I’m not really excited about CL. I’m worried.

Giroud scoring three times in these friendlies is a very good sign – his ability to bring in significant numbers is a big question mark for me, and what can really make the difference. Essentially, the striker position is the only position we strengthened this year so far.

People need to get over Hauge; the kid has some decent shooting skills inside the box, but it’s not like we lost Arian Robben.

Personally, I would have kept him and sold Leao, but just because of the higher income. Leao still is a better player, if not by much, and can cover the third striker position which we will need to use at some point without a doubt.

It would have been foolish to sell Leao and keep Hauge. Leao has proven to be a better option on the wing and he is a better option than Rebic as a winger or support striker as he can play alongside Ibrahimovic or Giroud in a 442. Leao is the best in in the team when we counterattack. He just needs to improve his work rate. Just look at Leao’s goals last season which most of them came from quick plays. It is no surprise that he scored the fastest goal in Serie A. Pioli should stick with a 442… Read more »

Not true @Bush, i expect at least 3-5 new signings before the summer mercato closes. Milan has a strategy, trying to test players to be sure they are a success with the team before buying them outright so as not to have liabilities that now become difficult to sell later i.e Catillejo bought for 25million but finding it difficult to sell him afterwards. For expensive players, Milan wants loan with option, but the selling teams i.e CSKA, Roma are demanding loan with obligation. Milan dont want to be boxed hence the delays in negotiation. There are reports Milan are (additionally to Florenzi and Adli) close to a deal for Bakayoko. If true, that’s good news cause we most desperately need Kessie’s sub. Having Bennacer, Kessie, Tonali, Adli and Bakayoko this team should stick with proven formation 4231 with Adli as AM. They can also alternate then with 442 if necessary.

ZionTrain

442 is better for this Milan team. Milan struggle to break down teams and score goals using 4231 especially when we play against teams that use 352 or 3412.
