Ismaël Bennacer is back and is ready for the final 10 games of the season as he still aims for the Scudetto.
Bennacer is one of the most important players in the squad of Stefano Pioli, but Milan had to do without him for large portions of the season due to injuries.
Now Isma is back and after playing 60 minutes with Algeria during the international break, he is getting ready for Saturday’s match against Sampdoria (12:30 CET kickoff) and for the final rush of the season.
“The injury? I was working hard to get fit again when I wasn’t, it was hard to sit out when the team wasn’t doing well,” Bennacer told MilanTV in an interview. “When the team loses, you lose too because you’re part of it. I couldn’t do anything. It was hard but important to stay positive, if you can’t help the team on the field you have to do what you can. Everyone was close to me: the Club, the directors and the Coach, all the staff and my teammates and so were my family. My family helped me a lot and that’s why I was able to be very positive.
“The comeback against Fiorentina? I tried to play as I always do, helping the team as always. I was hungry: for the play and to play, to win with the team. I tried to do all that when I came on in Florence.
“The end of the season? We try to learn from our mistakes, there are 10 games left and the next game is very important for us as are all the rest. We’re all ready, ready for the season’s final run in.
“Playing with Kessié? I’ve got good chemistry with Kessié but it’s the same with other players, perhaps it’s easier with Franck because we’ve played together longer. We need to give our all to help the team.
“Tonali? He is developing because he’s working a lot, it’s never easy when you join a club like Milan, when you’re so young you have to work more and he’s doing well, he’s on the right track.
“The national team? While with the national team, I worked the same as I do here. I followed my program and played to build match fitness. I felt good, I need to continue working like this.
“We are Milan and must always do our best, we need to do everything on and off the field, to be the best we can be during the match.”
Speaking to Sky Italia, Bennacer said: “My condition after the national team? In the 60 minutes that I played with Algeria I was very well, it had been a long time since I had such positive feelings.
“The Scudetto? Of course we don’t play to be second or third, but to try to finish first, that’s why we want to do our best and we’ll see what happens. Milan is a great team with a lot of fans, we’ll give it all until the end. There are 10 games to go and I, like the whole team, have to go at 200% because it’s the last resort to try to do something important.”
