Yeah, it was a delight to see, and now we have three CF, even four if we count Rebic. But I don’t know if it’s wise to play with the team’s morale and drop the work that has been done. Don’t get me wrong, I rather have three proven champions than Saelemakers/Samu on the attack. Calhanoglu will return in two weeks, and Saelemakers is eligible for the next match. From September-December this faced an easy fixture, now we will face tough opposition in the three competitions. Morale must be higher than ever, changing the formation may confuse those with a… Read more »

Who else wants to blame Castilejo for the 3rd goal? We blame Samu for just everything.

1.Zlatan was below standard
2.Pioli faulted in his line up thereby leading to the first half goal that put so much pressure on the team.

Let’s learn to call a spade a spade and leave petty sentiments aside.

Well, third goal was a result of pushing forward to try to score – Castilejo was dreadful and hugely contributed to being down 2:0! No need to defend him as he has been the worst player for many months now. Yes, the entire team didn’t show up today and the week is no excuse.

The worst isnt even losing this match today but the fact we have played extremely bad and nobody in this team should feel good about themselfs and their perfomances when looking in the mirror later today. Referee has been horrible as well giving free kick after free kick to atalanta while ignoring several on us, add to that the referee seem more inclined to give us cards than the bergamo players.

Im done for today as im sure it will get worse before its over,

You can see the Ref was protecting Atalanta when he gave the goalkeeper a foul when he made a mistake and left his goal empty. We could have scored on that empty goal. The rules say that it should be played on and then if there was a goal VAR could have been check for a foul. But the Ref made sure it didn’t came to that. Clearly protecting Atlanta.

We was really bad today no discusion about that but so was the ref and he certainly made it an even more uphill battle for us than had he done his job well. It was clear that atalanta players actually tried to get away with hurting our players in some instances and not even getting cards for those actions so yeah the referee was a factor in himself in my view. Atalanta players also kept overreacting on little to no contact with no punishment from the referee. In the end though atalanta played better of the two teams and is… Read more »

Fair enough. (Although I also recall Calabria getting a non-existing foul with Zapata on his way to a 1-on-1 against Donna).

I was more focused on the fact that we weren’t able to connect three passes in attack throughout most minutes. We not only looked uninspired, but also struggled to even get to their final third.

It was deffently a frustrating match no doubt and sure the ref propaly also did mistakes that was in our favour but overall i think gasperini can both be happy with his teams perfomance and the refs as well.

I think where we got it all wrong is throwing Meite in there without considering the team chemistry already built.. Diaz could have been used there.

The main reason that we lost tonight is the fact that Pioli got scared and tried to resolve Atalanta’s amazing midfield by some changes. Most teams that do that, lose to Atalanta. The only way to win against them is to attack and score goals and Don’t be afraid of them because they will score anyway. Shifting to 4-3-3 (not on paper) and starting with Meite and Samu made our team toothless. Plus we should consider that absence of Hakan, Roma, Bennacer and a proper right winger is the other reason for this small disaster.

Pioli is not new to making bad picks. Benching Rebic who is the second best assistant in the team with 8 assists when you dont have Hakan who is our best assistant with 9, is foolish by it self. And then the fact that we used a DM in Hakan place shows that Pioli came to defend, very bad decision against team like Atalanta. I’m soo disappointed with the decisions today From pioli and from the management in regards to the transfer market. We need fast, creative players on the wings and a forward that has speed. Zlatan and manzuikic are both big a slow. Having the same type of forwards with no other variations make it easy to defend us. We need better atm as well. Having hakan wouldn’t have helped today either since playing against a 352 always kills us. We are still linked with defenders and not one offensive player that can spread the field

A 3412 is the same as a 352. They have 5 midfield players. That 1 behind the forwards is a cam. That’s still midfield status. 352/3412, 3142 are all the same thing. At times is shape fluctuates to one of these 3

Ashraf

3412 and 352 is totally different 352 is more like dominating the game and winning the ball quickly when they lost 3412 is more like defending or attacking 4 midfielders wil play deep in their area and fight the opponent attackers the 4 midfielders 2 of them will oporate as wingers when ever they get the ball they give to the strikers and join them while the other 3 are straight strikers they push the opponent defenders

Do I think hakan would have helped a little more? Yes I do. But it wouldn’t have mattered today bc their formation creates double teams so when it’s implemented correctly like is was today, the midfield gets shut down quickly. Inter also should have tied the game against us, let’s not pretend here. And again Lille and Atalanta are fast/ quick teams. Ilicic might not have top end speed, but he has the tactical awareness with decent quickness and skill to leave players behind.

Nathan I can’t agree with that 🙂 it’s not easy to sign top quality players in the winter market. No team in the right mind would let a top player leave before the season ends. Mandzukic is a good signing and when fully fit he will come good. We definitely need a better RW though. Hopefully marseille will release Thauvin early by terminating his contract. I still think we would have lost even with hakan but to not have either on the field at any given time due to experimentation is criminal. Rebic or leao should have been on right and left winger positions plain and simple. As for meite, it should have been him and kessie if having a strong kid is what was wanted. Gali, Hakan Calhanoglu has 59 key passes in 17 appearances this season.

That’s 3.5 key passes per match. Ilicic makes 2.7, Luis Alberto and De Paul make 2.4 per match.

Not a good result. Not happy losing to Atalanta again at San Siro in another dominating fashion. First things first: anyone who undermines the impotence of Hakan Calhanoglu to this team is a dunce. In hindsight, Pioli should have played Diaz instead if Meite. I believed it upset the team chemistry. Possibly, Rebic could have started ahead of Leao. I don’t want to overreact to this match honestly because we lost due to many reasons. First and foremost, Gasperini did everything perfectly. Last time these teams met Milan completely overpowered their speedy/small midfield and wing play and took Papu completely out of the match; they kept trying to force the ball to him which played right into our hands. This time he moved Illicic more centrally and used taller wingers who were still very speedy and did not force any attacks through the wings. Instead, they took advantage of our players playing out of position today and won possession… Read more »
