Milan are looking for reinforcements in defense and midfield and France is the place where their targets play.
The Rossoneri are top of the Serie A table after 15 games but it’s clear that the squad needs to be strengthened if Stefano Pioli wants to finish the season in the Top 4 or even make a real run for the Scudetto.
Milan have known since the summer mercato that they need another center back and when the January transfer reopened this season, they got back to pursuing the same main target.
This target is Mohamed Simakan, the 20-year-old defender of Strasbourg, who can play at the center of defense and also as a right back. As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Italia, Milan are offering €15m plus bonuses for Simakan but Strasbourg demand €20m plus bonuses for him.
The youngster, who’s already played 42 Ligue 1 matches in his career, is considered a real talent in France and RB Leipzig have also shown interest in him as they view him as a replacement for Dayot Upamecano. It is believed that personal terms have long been agreed between Milan and Simakan and the Rossoneri are ready to give the 1.87m-tall defender a five-year contract.
Milan are also looking for a new midfielder, one who can play in the center to add more quantity and quality. The player the Rossoneri want most, according to Di Marzio and others, is Kouadio Koné. The 19-year-old, who plays in Ligue 2 with Toulouse, is valued at €10m while the Diavolo offer €5-6m.
There is therefore an economic gap between Milan and both Strasbourg and Toulouse, and it remains to be seen if Paolo Maldini and co. will be able to bridge the gap and strengthen Pioli’s squad.
