Calabria: “The coach has shown his trust in me, I put behind me what was bothering me to focus only on football, Milan cannot fear anyone”

Davide Calabria has spoken to MilanTV, saying ‘the coach has shown his trust in me, allowed me to play more offensive and we are all seeing the results of this’.

Calabria had a stellar performance against Bologna last night as he contributed greatly in both phases of the game as the Rossoneri beat the Rossoblù 2-0.

Davide had a very unconvincing 2019-20 season but seems to have re-found himself in recent weeks. The right back spoke to MilanTV today:

“I put behind me what was bothering me to focus only on football and this has helped me and the whole team because we are all doing very well. It’s really important to play with a clear mind. The coach has shown his trust in me, allowed me to play more offensive and we are all seeing the results of this and I hope we can continue like this, we are only at the beginning. Individuals can make the difference, there are strong individuals in the team but [results] also depend on how the group is doing, psychologically, and we are in full confidence, we have belief and it’s not something to be taken for granted. We’re going through a positive period, both physically and psychologically. We are obtaining the results we want on the pitch and all of this together helps the team and the club.

“Saelemaekers? We can see the whole pitch from the defense. Lots of the young guys are doing well, such as Alexis [Saelemaekers] who comes from a foreign league and it’s not easy to start as well as he has. Advice should be given, especially during the game, as maybe you came on, maybe you hadn’t worked on specific movements during the week and the coach asked me to give some advice on specific, essential movements in defense.

“Competition for the role? All 20, 25 players are considered likely starters and rightly so, especially for a team with big ambitions like Milan. It can be helpful to everyone as it’s a stimulus to work even harder during the week.

“The match against Bodø/Glimt? There are no easy fixtures in Europe. If we look at the past, many clubs, especially Italians, have struggled against less famous clubs. We have everything to lose but if we play with the same determination we have been showing lately, a team like Milan cannot fear any other team in the world because we have to aim for the top, the desire to win has to be the same no matter the opponent.

“Continuity? Having the same team, the same coach and the same game ideas is a plus. We are focused on this, I think the important thing is to continue to have the intensity we have now and know how to move on the pitch: these are the most important things, then the rest comes by itself.

“Rivals? We just have to look at ourselves, it’s too soon to talk about direct rivals. We have to focus on doing well, keep up what we’ve done since the beginning of 2020. As the coach said, in the 2020 league standings we rank second; Atalanta haven’t played yet thus we are first in 2020, no only after the COVID-19 break. This is really motivating us a lot because it’s been a long, positive spell which means we are a quality team and only have to prove it this season.”

I like the way Calaibra is proving us wrong. This is what we are expecting from Paqueta too, but unfortunately , his time in Milan seem to be up now.

I was commenting everywhere when people were saying that Calabria should be sold after only 1 bad season, I’m so happy I was right. Paqueta has an attitude problem, Ibra has been barking to everyone ever since he came back, the mature players Chalha and Calabria grew from criticism while Paqueta clashed with him, as rumors suggest, and now he’s not even warming the bench. So yeah, I think the problem lies with him not the coach nor the management. 25M will be nicely used for Chiesa deal, his dad and agent were spotted in Milan + Comisso also said… Read more »

I agree, paqueta has problem. He wants to keep the way he plays, not even willing to adapt or change. In friendly matches he tried hard to pass his marker with the same way, and he failed each time. He lost ball too often. I don’t know what in his mind is. It seems his ego will bring him nowhere. Maybe he will succeed in Ligue1, since the marking is not tight there like serie A.

Everyone saying Calabria is good and should stay brings tears to my eyes after my season-long struggle of supporting him over Conti :’)

Anyway, tear up the opposition teams this season!

And I must admit even I was surprised with his superb defensive performance, he has improved dramatically.
