Milan and Cagliari in talks over Calabria, the Gli Isolani’s first offer of €8m plus bonuses is deemed too low

Davide Calabria is wanted in Sardinia and negotiations are in place between Cagliari and Milan.

Right back is certainly one of the positions where Stefano Pioli needs reinforcements, as both Andrea Conti and Davide Calabria had an extremely mediocre 2019-2020.

Frederic Massara claimed this week that Calabria is not on the market, but according to Milannews.it’s Antonio Vitiello there are talks ongoing between Milan and Cagliari over the 23-year-old.

MN claims that Cagliari have already made their first offer: 8 million plus 2m of bonuses. However, Milan would like to get more money from a possible sale of the player. It has to be remembered that since Calabria grew up in the Youth Sector, his sale would generate pure profit for Milan.

Negotiations continue, and should Davide leave the club, it’s expected that Milan will try to sign a new starting right back. Serge Aurier of Tottenham is believed to be the top target in such case.

Conti should be sold next too. Conti is not improving and his age will be a problem if we hold on to him too long. Especially given his injury record.

Not sure why Milan signed him because he’s more a wingback and he played in a back 3 at Atalanta. Defensively he’s just poor.

Saelemaekers can play as a RB. He is better defensively and offensively than Calabria and Conti. Saelemaekers has better stamina, speed and strength and he shoots better with both feet. He definitely has the potential to become a world class RB.

Calabria had just 1 single bad season, ever since him joining the senior squad he was always putting a lot of effort and energy making not that many mistakes. Messi himself once said that he expected great things from him. When another legend said similar thing about our player was Cristiano about Bennacer and look at him now. Conti is an experienced sub. Saelemaekers isn’t used to Serie A and is a RW.

as it stands i’d accept us selling him for something in the vicinity of 10+3 mil and including a 2 year buyback option at 16-18 mil and if not redeemed in that period it should activate a 50% resale clause that exceeds the initial price cagliari paid if he then gets sold again. I’d rather see conti leave though.but if there isnt a low buyback clause in a calabria deal well then in my view any potential buyers should pay 18-20 mil upfront. He will sooner rather than later get his international debut and even if not many agrees upon… Read more »

This amount is small for Calabria. I prefer Conti to be sold instead but just that his book balance a hook on our neck. He gets injured most times and has not justified in any way the price we payed for him back then. Bad investment in my opinion

Very bad investment especially since he is more a wingback than a fullback. Milan haven’t played a back 3 with wingbacks since the 1998-99 Serie A title winning team under Zaccheroni. So I don’t understand why Milan signed Conti knowing that we have been playing a back 4 for 15yrs.

Thats very low for Calabria, he is still young and had decent games when given the chance. And to be fair he was mostly paired with Musachio on the right, sometimes he had to cover two people without any support. He showed much better games with Kjaer in the end of the season. His bigest problem is strenght and stamina, if the team has some faith in him and help him improve this areas i think he can be a good RB, better then Aurier for sure.

100% with you bro. and if he flops again (hope that he doesn’t), we will have the ability to buy Emerson for 20M instead of the 30M.

Calabria is actually quite good going forward. He’s main issue has always been defense. He can hardly mark in the box, and top seria a wingers have far too often took advantage of him. The price is a bit too low, but not by much imo. Aurier, while not perfect, will most certainly be an upgrade over him; for sure in defense.

Aurier propably will be an upgrade but also only a small one but if we sign both tonali, bakayoko and brahim on pretty much loan terms and sell laxalt, krunic and has 30 mil in transfer funds i think it would make as much sense if not more to use the remaining cash to get a deal done for chiesa. Lets say we could strike a deal for him combined in the vicinity of 45-50 mil then pay 30-35 now and the remaing next year well then im fairly confident that we would be able to challenge for the scudetto allready… Read more »

With Rebic and Chiesa on the wings streching the opponents defence ro create hole for calahanoflu to unleash shots, nd ibra as striker, there is no way way we will not cause problems…

If all signings do indeed follow through, I think we should actually change to a diamond midfield in a 4-4-2: Tonali – Kessie- Bennaser- Hakan/Diaz. In this case, we won’t need Cheisa who is anyways way over priced imo. I’m not even sure I wouldn’t prefer Beradi over him. Shaqiri (last year on his contract with very little playing time) is also a better option. For an attacking fullback like Theo, a 4-4-2 as above would be great, and I think it would also suit Aurier. As for the CB, I haven’t seen any name that I’m really excited about.… Read more »

Baresis Dream, well im not against us fiddeling around with the formation when needed but only as a 2nd option. In my opinion with the form and confidence we showcased post lockdown it wouldnt be the smartest thing to change formation now as we should build on last seasons success otherwise we could just as well have hired Rangnick if we are gonna experiment anyways. Well i’ll deffently prefer chiesa above any of the players you mentioned but i certainly wouldnt mind any of them as additions to the squad and especially berradi but in my view chiesa tops them… Read more »

Martin, 1. Assuming we do get Tonali, and god I hope we do, you can’t have either him, nor Bennaser, nor Kessie, benched. They are our current most expensive players. And we also have enough cover for the diamond midfield, assuming Bakayoko, Pboga, and Diaz. 2. Kjaer isn’t getting younger, and if we’re talking about spending 20-25 mil on a CB, might as well spend some extra and get someone with more guarantees (and Tah is only 24). 3. This way, next year we go all in on a striker and we have a strong lineup for years (including decent… Read more »

Of course you’re also right that sticking to the 4-5-1 or 4-3-3, whatever it is, makes sense. But there’s just not that much world class left-footed wingers on the market.

well we play 4-2-3-1 and rebic is actually doing a great job on the left wing and leao is actually also a left wing as he has said himself thats the position he prefers to play so no need to invest in any leftwingers. Chiesa can play there but he will either be played as right winger or as a forward so think it would make sense to aquirre him both to have a great right wing but also a player that can cover several positions. I dont think having those four players would be too much just look at… Read more »

I meant left-footed right wingers, just like Rebic and Leao are right-footed left wingers.

Anyways, will just have to wait and see.

But getting Tonali and having him on the bench is crazy imo; especially in a squad thin with world class talent as our current one.

Ok my bad then.

Its not that i cant see what you mean and its not that i completely disagree either but i think it would be risky atleast currently as we need a great start to the campaign but who knows if there will be a shift over the course of time.
