Kjær: “My only dream at this moment is to stay at Milan, finding a coach like Pioli was my luck, Ibrahimović…”

Simon Kjær has stated he would like to keep wearing the Rossoneri colors also next year, and claimed no one has ever put him at ease like Stefano Pioli has.

Football in Italy has not been played in over a month and it’s not expected to resume at least until the start of May – if the most optimistic projections are true.

The Coronavirus situation has changed everything and many things – including expiring contracts – are affected by the epidemic. One of the players whose current deal with Milan expires on June 30 is Simon Kjær, who arrived from Atalanta in January on a six-month loan deal with option to buy.

Kjær made an instant impact at Milan and found himself as the partner of Alessio Romagnoli. That is until he sustained an injury in the game against Torino on February 17. The Dane center back gave an interview to Tuttosport’s Alberto Pastorella to discuss the current situation:

On the injury: “It’s just a bad memory. In fact, I was practically ready to come back when the league got suspended. So I had even more time without having to recover quickly. It was a time I took advantage of to be with my family. We footballers are often away, between away games and training camps. I’ve been able to spend these days with my children and my wife. The people who love you always give you a hand, also in doing your job well. They’ve helped me mentally to continue to feel like a player, even without going to Milanello every day.

On training: “I train every day, as indicated, and I keep my diet in order, which is another important aspect to keep under control when you’re always at home. After that, I’m waiting calmly to get back to the game, I’m obviously training for that. But without putting pressure on anyone, without stress. When everything’s in place and safe, I’ll be ready. It’ll be hard for everyone.”

On Pioli: “Finding a coach like Pioli was my luck. He put me in the best conditions to be able to play immediately. He talked to me, asked me what I liked and also asked me for advice on things. I’ve been to a lot of clubs in my career but I have to admit that no one had ever put me so at ease before.”

On San Siro: “The reality is that I give my best in these situations. Playing football is my job and if I’m allowed to do it then I know how to do it well. I’m also good under pressure that there is at a team like Milan, in a city like Milano. Going into San Siro and seeing 60,000 people waiting for your play is something that fires me up and doesn’t condition me. It makes me find the motivation to train at the maximum.”

On Ibrahimović: “Zlatan gives a lot. He’s a great Champion who has won almost everything, with his presence he mentally fires up the whole team. He’s someone who always wants to win, also in training. He has his style and his desire to never give up is impressive.”

On Atalanta: “They are a fantastic team, they play great football and score a lot of goals. But analyzing my season in Bergamo is very simple: the coach always said that there was a tactical problem… but I’ve always trained like a professional and with commitment. As soon as there was the opportunity to go to Milan, I took it and I was ready.”

On his future: “In a period like this it’s very difficult to think about what will happen next year. Because the situation is complicated for the whole work and we cannot ignore it. When we have to in conversation with Milan then we’ll do it, but for now I’m just getting ready to go back to the top when the time is right. I will try to put pressure on the club to use their option to make me stay. I’m working physically and mentally only for this because my only dream, at this moment, is to stay at Milan.”

If Bresica are relegated this season, Milan could get Tonali for a fair price. Of course if they are even after him or these are just BS reports and they will bring someone like Baselli in the end… Possibly in exchangement for a talent like Pobega
