If for nothing at all, Muntari’s days with Milan wasn’t as shambolic as you guys always makes it look. He was the second goal scorer against Barcelona in that famous 2: 0 win. He had occasional drives which saved our asses, not to talk of that “Ghost Goal” against *Jubentus* in that fatal error of refereeing in 2013. So if you nothing good to say about him, let his name rest for he paid his dues.

Offcourse but i think the main issue is we lacked composure in large ammounts of the game and simply was too easily overrun and also could have given away quick goals right after our two first goals. Bad passing was an issue as well where we made it harder for ourself than necessary. Anyways udinese did indeed play well and their team certainly has credit in the game which they they desserved to get minimum 1 point,

nick

Totally agree. Fofana totally owned Kessie in the midfield.

Instead of taking off Castellijo who in my opinion was doing really well, especially in the 2nd half, Pioli should have subbed in Paquetá to play next to Bennacer.

Krunic is not really good defensively and he likes to push forward whereas Paquetá is good at break up plays.

correctamundo mate. but then again, madrid have great defensive fullback in mendy and great attacking one in marcelo. and their young players like valverde, ceballos etc are fantastic. i wish milan had scout like them

Martin Bernhard

Martin Bernhard

Well marcelo absoluetly but no need to get mendy as they paid nearly 50 mil for a player that they could have had in theo. Anyways was also thinking more in the line of the 20 mil fee we paid but their loss our win so im not complaining, If he keep developing defensively and stay consistent and adds a bit more swril to his shots we will soon have our own roberto carlos in him.

Milan10

Milan10

naw mate. theo is very similar to marcelo; a very brazil-esque attacking fb while mendy offers so much more in defensive phase. maybe madrid regret letting theo go (i certainly hope not because milan still need hakimi, ceballos, modric and maybe eder militao and jovic from them) but im fairly sure they dont regret buying mendy. i watch lotsa madrid matches and zidane often picks mendy ahead of marcelo, especially when they need to be solid like vs barca. mendy also has better overall rating than marcelo according to whoscored. in short, madrid dont regret buying mendy and if anything,… Read more »

3-2 Rebic; I’m blaming Pioli 🙂
Krunic sub was smart because we are loosing the mid, but unfortunately it didn’t help

nick
Guest
nick

Sorry mate but we were fortunate to win because of Rebić not because of Pioli. His substitution of Castellijo nearly killed the game. It wasn’t the right sub.

Udinese was playing 352 and we switched to 433 which made us more vulnerable in midfield.

Castellijo was tracking back defensively in midfield. Kessie was tired and it would have made more sense to sub him for Krunic with fresh legs.

Baresis Dream
Guest
Baresis Dream

Naw mate, I disagree. At that point of the match we should have slowed down the game, took control of the possession and allowed Udi to foul us consistently in frustration. Subbing Samu for an extra holding midfield is the standard approach to achieve this.

nick
Guest
nick

No my friend because It clearly didn’t work though and we conceded a goal as soon as we did that substitution. I see coaches getting that wrong all the time and it always backfires. I don’t even know why they do it.

Playing against a 352 formation requires us to use a diamond 442.

“This leads to a transition in the form of a defensive 5-3-2. Control: By having four midfielders packed into the middle of the pitch, the Diamond gives an edge over most other formations by having an extra man.“

Baresis Dream
Guest
Baresis Dream

Nick you are right it didn’t work but it something we have to know how to do. This is really fundamental Italian football (Italy NT used to be the masters of this).

A diamond mid is a whole other issue; especially a real diamond with a powerhouse at the bottom tip and two monster mezzeles. It’s also much better for ultra attacking fullbacks due to the cover of the mezzeles.

nick
Guest
nick

That’s exactly how Milan should build the current team and players like Rodrigo De Paul, Dani Olmo and a proper DM can help build our team to play a diamond 442.

Baresis Dream
Guest
Baresis Dream

I agree about the diamond. I think we already have decent mezzeles in Bennaser, Paquetta… and don’t hate on me … Hakan. All three can push forward, while also providing good defensive cover. Now all that is need is a proper trequarista and proper regista.

nick
Guest
nick

I hear you mate but to be honest I’m not convinced by Calhanoglu and his poor stats doesn’t help to convince me either. I would hope Pioli is bold enough to use Brescianini who in my opinion is a star in the making. Brescianini is better than Calhanoglu and he needs to be given a chance. Even just some minutes to build him up for next season. Brescianini has the total package. He’s good offensively and defensively. He’s the primavera captain and we need to slowly bring him in the team. I watched him score a hattrick in a training… Read more »

If y’all noticed he went back to 4-4-2 after Udinese scores that goal with bennaser on the left and Leao on the right. That’s good of him. I give pioli credit for recognizing when a player is not playing well such as what he did with bonaventura today. I understand why he left Ibrahimović because we still needed his presence in the opponents box to put the opponents attention on him while letting other players to operate freely. Good game after all. 3 points well earned. On to the next one!!!! Forza Milan!!!!!

Didn’t I say time and time again we needed speed up top. Rebic just needed to get a goal and now he’s about to turn into a beast! Gotta keep playing him and let the goals come flying in. I missed the game but even if his goals didn’t come from his speed, it’s the fact defenders have to guess what skill set he will use that will make him hard to mark.

nick
Guest
nick

Nathan Graegin….Yes, you did say that time and time again and you are correct because I’ve said it numerous times as well. that’s why at half time I called for Bonaventura to be subbed off for Rebić.

It’s strange to me that it took an injury to an underperforming Calhanoglu and a poor first half by Bonaventura for Pioli to give Rebić a chance.

Nathan Graegin
Guest
Nathan Graegin

The sad part is it normally takes an injury for these Milan coaches to be forced into doing something. I wish we would start giving our youth players a chance now to. I’m not saying they gotta start but we need to see what they can do in order to decide if we need new players or to rely on our academy players. I still think we should go for timo Werner and add a wingers 2 and atm. I would Luke neres and Ajax atm. Name starts with a z, can’t remember but he’s really good

nick
Guest
nick

Exactly. Especially when we have players who are underperforming. Brescianini is a really exciting player and Pioli should start giving him some minutes as a sub when necessary.

Neres from Ajax is a good attacking winger but he doesn’t do much defensively like Castellijo does to help out the wingback and midfield.

Politano, Dani Olmo and Florian Thauvin are good options for the RW.

I believe you are talking about Hakim Ziyech. He is more of an AM.

I agree to some degree with what you said but it certainly was down to luck as well, imagine if udinese actually had scored right after we had scored the two first goals of ours which certainly easily could have happened as we lost focus right after in both situations. Pretty sure that would have killed the moral of our players and then we wouldnt be talking about fighting spirit. absoluetey but as it atleast for now is going forward id prefer us to keep playing with the 4-4-2 formation for the time being., When that is said 4-3-1-2 is a good formation as well but in that case id hope us to get tonali and olmo but either way which we take we will need some extra signings that can walk straight in as starters if we are to keep this streak going.

Good performance, very energetic, especially in the second half, but also very reckless defensively. Unfortunately, Bennaser and Kessie didn’t control the mid against Fofana, le paul, and co … This midfield cannot take us to where we want to be. Good outing by Rebic and Leao, as well as Samu. But again, this lineup with extra offensive fullbacks and inverted wingers on the flanks, would be an too vulnerable against the top teams.

Niel8
Guest

The problem with the midfield today was not the players. Udinese used a very good tactic by putting their CMs to wide area during the counter. This created an overload (happened a lot during the game) and made it possible to have one free man ready for putting in a cross. Not only that, the covering in the central area also became thinner since Kessie and Bennacer had to follow their men to the wide area. As the result Udinese won a lot of second balls in the dangerous area. This is the risks of playing with 4-4-2 with 4… Read more »

Good analysis Neil8. A well trained 4-4-2 can overcome these difficulties by a few ways, one of which is have the second striker drop down and help; another option is to put a lot of pressure in the center, forcing Udi’s mid to stay in position or pay. But all and all a 2 man mid requires two imposing mids, and a lot of coordination around them.

Ashraf

Nirl8 absolutely 442 is rubbish specially when we are facing teams that play 352 343

Niel8
Guest
Niel8

It depends on how the detailed tactics are.. it’s about the balance, especially in wide area. In fact historically 442 became popular as a counter measure of 352. In today’s football the balance and dynamics of the team (which includes formation change) is more important than the formation on paper..

The defence was not that bad, the 1st goal was Donaruma fault and since Udine got an early lead they kept hitting us on the counter. The 2nd goal was a bit on Conti who needs to improve his marking for sure, but he was good today as well. I agree for the mid Kessie was kinda off today, i think we should invest in a DM like Bakayoko or Berge who can tackle and win high balls in the air as well. Hakan and suso please stay as far away from san siro as you can. Loved the pace from laeo, Castillo even revived. Everytime they attacked they looked dangerous. Big mistake from pioli playing new defender right away. Should klgive him time to adapt.

What a second half performance! For any spectator that was a fantastic match to see. I love theo man he is a beast lol and he’s improved so much already defensively compared to the beginning of the season. Well the management was criticized before and now they need to get some praise for bringing in some experienced players for January. What ibra has brought to this team in two weeks is unexplainable. Kjaer has quality and leadership too. All of a sudden we’re seeing players like romagnoli rebic castillejo and bennacer play with purpose it’s great to see. Btw that… Read more »

congrats to the team…especially coach Pioli. damn, the yellow card for you is nothing compared to this 3-2 win against the f**k f**k sh*t tough team Udinese.

18 games to go, coach. just give us more wins until the end of the season.

Rebic, i love you dude. thanks for the brace you made tonight.

I just watched the highlights. Rebic goals are they type we have been looking for in a forward. Speed, tactical awareness, skill and can score with both feet. I knew was good, his games with Croatia have proven that. Milan have to keep playing him

Spot on! I’ve been calling for him to have a run of games. He big, quick, 2 footed and can play left wing, right wing, striker, or as a 10. How hakan has been picked with his stats is staggering.

Exactly, I’ve said since last Jan we have no speed! Gettin piatek and paqueta were both wrong bc they lack the ability to beat ppl and leave them in the dust. Then in the summer I said we need to play rebic, leao and piatek. That didn’t happen. Finally we play our fast players and we are scoring goals. We still need wingers so we can keep rebic and leao up front. Hell I’d say we use leao and rebic as a front 2 and see what happens. Speed and dynamism are what make Liverpool, Barca, Madrid, psg, Dortmund etc… Read more »

My taking in about this match. Great confidence boaster for our players who were lazy in the first half of the season as they will be fighting to climb up the table 2. Am so happy for Rebic because everybody seemed to condemned him and was on the verge of returning back to Germany without giving him opportunity to showcase his potential 3..Theo is a blessing to Milan and am very sure Madrid will be regretting selling him to Milan. On our midfielders this is where I have a major concern because our passes are absurd and a bit slow… Read more »

Fully agree with everything you said Emmy and in regard of the last comment it might seem far away right now but things can quickly change as we have seen before so no need to set our goals only for europa league. Whether we reach that goal might be a different matter but its certainly within being possible even if we need to be very consistant for the remaining part of the season.

You are correct we still have 17 matches to go and am sure we will make it happen

Lets hope so but there is a long way for that to actually happen and unless we start winning with some margin we will also have to take goals scored by us and against us into consideration as we are also far behind in that equation. Anyways with some january marquee signings we might be able to take the leap forward but it will nevertheless be an uphill battle for the remainder of the season and we will pretty much be fighting for only one spot amongst the cl qualifying positions.

for me it’s a mystery. Why we didn’t use Samu & Rebic sooner in this season. we are all guessing about the talents and abilities but a coach should see, use & try all he has in his hands. I really like pioli but If we miss UCL again (yes I still have hope) we should go for someone with at least a UCL or league title. (Allegri, Valverde, Pellegrini, Jardim or…)

man, i cant imagine if last night we still use 4-3-3… with suso and hakan…

Classic case of fans always understanding the problem long before coach takes action.
People here pointed out the chanalogolu, suso problem 4 months ago.

Agreed, our pool of players are not any worse than roma, lazio, atalanta, we should be top 4 with a good coach. I’d take jardim for sure, good attacking football.

Lacklustre first half, Lasagna and Udinese made things difficult…but nevermind that! REBIC scoring on his first and last touch and a thunderbolt from Theo! Stepping up in key moments is what we haven’t had this season. I hope we keep it up!

Fofana taught Kessie a lesson today on how to be a box-to-box midfielder. Ibra was also very static as well and he didn’t have a good game.

I just hope Pioli doesn’t believe Ibrahimović is untouchable and keep him the game when he’s not playing well like he did in the past with Suso and Calhanoglu.

Piatek looked great when he played with Rebić so I’m expecting Pioli to show some courage if Ibrahimović isn’t playing well and sub him if necessary.

I think Milan should listen to this blog. Not everything but just listen. Its the small things. Like the eyes of some here seeing the big picture. Milan should also try to convince some older players early for good bossman signings like the evil fuck at Juve does. I trust our boban and Maldini but We need to be more clever. For so many years Juve has been the best with Their signings and Milan has been one of the worst in the world. I could se something like this coming now with the sales and the wages. Milans wages… Read more »

Theo is better to play as LM than as LB. So RR should stay to play as LB. Leao can play as SS, LM and RM. We don’t need Olmo. Rebic is better play as SS than LM because he cannot pass or cross.
