Kessié: “If I had wanted to leave then I already would’ve done, I want to stay for many years, I feel good with Pioli”

Franck Kessié has stated ‘I have nothing against Pioli and he has nothing against me’ and played down the rumours that Napoli want him.

After getting excluded from the squad list for the match against Juventus and watching Rade Krunić in his place, Kessié seems to have reconquered his place in the starting XI of Stefano Pioli.

With Gennaro Gattuso now coaching Napoli, replacing the sacked Carlo Ancelotti, there are rumours that Kessié is a transfer target for the Partenopei and that Milan would be willing to sell for €20-25m.

“I feel good with Pioli like with all the coaches I’ve had at Milan,” the Ivory Coast midfielder said in an interview with Sportmediaset on Thursday. “The fact that now I play makes everyone understand that I have nothing against him and he has nothing against me.

“The exclusion from the squad against Juventus? There was nothing serious with Pioli, I feel good with him. I didn’t play against Juventus but I was injured in that week and then I was a bit late [to training], so he didn’t call me up. It was a coach’s decision, nothing serious. The proof is that he’s played me, he has nothing against me and vice-versa.

“The beginning of the problematic season? We made some false steps at the start but now we are growing, we are working to reach our objective. Champions League qualification? In my opinion everything is still open.

“The mercato rumours? If I had wanted to leave then I already would’ve done. I want to stay here for many years, as I supported the Rossoneri since I was a child. It’s a dream come true for me to play for Milan and I will always give my best for these club colors.]

“My idols as a child? Especially Clarence Seedorf. I also liked Essien and when he arrived at Milan I was very happy.”

Kessié’s agent, George Atangana, spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss today about the Napoli rumours: “I heard Gattuso compliment him. It is true that the coach has the player’s esteem, but you cannot always associate his name with that of Kessié. There were negotiations a few years ago and Kessié was on the verge of joining Napoli, but then nothing came of it. I see him at Milan, but I won’t rule anything out.

“The January transfer window is coming up, so if an offer were to come in, we’d take it into consideration.”

I don’t know if this is good or bad for Milan if Kessie stays or leave but if he stays he needs to improve on his passing and shooting.

Milan needs depth. Kessie will improve with a couple of stronger men in the middle with him. We need to get some goal scoring midfielders.

im not even kessie’s fan like kourosh the morontella’s patriot but its nice to see kessie pledging his loyalty to milan because like it or not he’s essential to the team because he’s the only one who can be destroyer who protect the defensive line a la rino. biglia is old and will soon leave, bennacer is good distributor but he defends sloppily (thus that many yellow cards already) and is small, krunic is not that good defensively, baka the awesome dm is gone which means only kessie is proper dm in the squad. selling him would be stupid, as… Read more »

Problem is, Kessie doesn’t play like a dm with his consistent runs forward and messing the attack up at the last moment, instead of simply winning the ball and pass it (short, simple) to someone who can create something. But I agree, selling him without having a solid defensive mid lined up would be puzzling unless there’s formation/tactics change from 4 3 3. RicRod is a difficult matter because he is consistent and does deserve to play for a team regularly. Perhaps moving Theo as an advanced left midfielder (to pick up passes from RicRod and Kessie, and run forward… Read more »

the only reason why kessie doesnt play like a dm is simply because the coaches dont play him as dm/regista; they all play him as attacking cm/mezz’ala as if he’s african iniesta or something. u cant blame him for doing his job, blame the coaches. the last time kessie played well was vs lecce when john malkovich played him as dm beside biglia, allowing theo to overlap, which in turn allowing hakan to play in his natural position as am in the middle. milan played fairly well back then. in short, kessie needs to play as dm or box to… Read more »
