Giacomo Bonaventura was happy with how he and Milan played in the 1-1 draw against Napoli, in which he scored.
Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s suspension made space for Jack Bonaventura against Napoli and the 30-year-old midfielder took the opportunity with both hands and delivered a very good performance.
However, Bona’s plays and excellent goal (29′), which cancelled out Chucky Lozano’s opener (24′), was not enough for Milan to get the win against Carlo Ancelotti’s side and instead they left San Siro with just one point.
“I’m happy. It had been a while since I last played from the start at San Siro and I was really happy for my goal. We played a good game, we have been playing well lately, putting in quality performances and I think we are on the right track,” Bonaventura told MilanTV after the match,
“The injury? Being out was tough, I had to be patient, but I worked hard to be back. This goal, at San Siro, against such a strong team was liberating, I really missed it, I missed this feeling and with this goal we took home a quite positive result, a good game: it’s been a happy day.
“The role? I’ve played many games as a mezz’ala or as a winger, what’s important is that Know what to do on the pitch, the coach tells me what he wants from me, it makes no difference. When I play up front, I have more chances to shoot, playing in midfield means I have to do something different but it is fine.
“The game? Tonight’s performance was positive, we played aggressive, we were well-organized, stayed focused tactically, we made the right movements, we moved well together. We prepared for this game very well and we have to keep doing this every week. As per the negative aspect, the tempo lowered in the second half, we had more space to attack, and we should have been more lucid on the ball, we could’ve created more chances.”
In the mixed-zone, Jack said: “Tonight we had a great performance. I’m happy to be back at San Siro. We drew tonight but the performance is positive and we played well against Juventus too. The road is the right one. My role? I feel good also as a mezz’ala, for me it doesn’t matter, the important thing is that on the field I know well what I have to do.
“Errors? Surely have to read some situations better. I think I play the league well, I’ve played many games in Serie A and I try to give my best and give some advice to the teammates. The important thing is that we all follow the coach who is doing a great job.
“Napoli? They’re a great team, they have great quality. The draw was right, Milan had a great performance, Napoli had a good game, we managed to limit their quality and we are content with the result.”
Speaking to Sky Italia, Bonaventura stated: “I’m very happy, I wanted to play a great game and I’m happy with the performance. We were aggressive, we managed to limit Napoli who are a strong team. Pioli? The coach has done an important job tactically and physically. The performances have been solid, as a team. We have to go down this road from now on. Last year we almost made it to the Champions League but then we changed a lot. It’s not easy to start over all the time with a lot of younger players that you have to put in. We’ve put a lot of things right, the coach has been good.
“My position? I also like to play as a mezz’ala, the important thing is that on the field I know where to play. By playing on the wing I can shoot more and make more impact. If I play as a mezz’ala then the job is a little different. The expiring contract? Let’s see… in June my contract expires, my agent will take care of it. I’ll take care of playing, and it’s already difficult to play well.
“The 2020 EURO? From now on I will work with passion and desire to do well, the field will say if I’m among the best players in Italy; in that case, Mancini will consider me. Daniel Maldini? He is a good and strong guy. If he continues to work like he is doing, the future is on his side. Milan have talent also in the Primavera.”
