Alessio Romagnoli has spoken about the defeat against Roma saying ‘it is a complicated moment for so many mistakes made in other games as well’.

The miserable Milan season continued this evening when Roma beat the Diavolo 2-1 at Stadio Olimpico, to give Milan their 5th defeat of the campaign.

The Rossoneri basically gifted Roma to goals, as Edin Džeko (38′) was unmarked on a corner (Franck Kessié irresponsibly lost him) and headed the ball to the back of the net, and Nicolò Zaniolo (59′) scored in style after taking advantage of a horrific pass from Davide Calabria. Theo Hernández (55′) scored in the game as well but Milan failed to fight back, showing a complete lack of character for the umpteenth time this season.

“We started the game well as per ball possession, though it was a bit slow, but we were in control of the game,” captain Romagnoli told MilanTV at the end of the match. “There were some distractions which changed the game. We still have to grow and improve step by step. We need to improve right from the next game. Everyone makes mistakes, it happens in football. If only we could’ve stayed in the game for longer, especially after our equalizer. We lost our rhythm after the second goal. It’s important to stay in the game and avoid repeating the mistakes we made.

“The offensive game? One tends to concede at the back when attacking with many players but we defenders have to be good at covering up the gap. Coach Pioli wants us to play this way and we follow his orders with the aim of reaping the fruits of our labor soon.

“The standings? It hurts because Milan don’t deserve to be in that position in the standings. We have to aim for the top positions and we will do our best to get there. SPAL? Thankfully, our next fixture is on Thursday and we have to bounce back from today’s result.”

Alessio also spoke to Sky: “It’s a complicated moment for so many mistakes made in other games as well. We are a young team that has already given away too much. We have to work and already on Thursday do better. The errors? We always tried to play but we made fatal mistakes. This is not enough, we must give something more, all of us.

“The upcoming matches? We must try to play well against all teams. We must grow and improve, there’s a lot of work and there are many games. The fact that we’re so far away from the top teams? One wants to play to win, unfortunately this doesn’t happen for a number of reasons. We want to get Milan as high as possible. We have to work and try to get the team on top.”
