Krunić: “We had a great game and were just unlucky not to take home all three points against Lecce, I had lost faith in myself having not played for a while”

Rade Krunić spoke at the end of the draw against Lecce, saying ‘we should have closed off the game earlier as a one-goal advantage counts for nothing’.

The summer signing has been struggling for minutes this season but yesterday, on Stefano Pioli’s debut, he was given 25 minutes off the bench to show his worth.

Krunić played a part in the goal of Krzysztof Piątek (81′), which ultimately did not prove enough for the Rossoneri to win, as Marco Calderoni scored a great goal in the 92′ minute to equalize the game. Hakan Çalhanoğlu (20′) and Khouma Babacar (62′) also scored.

“We had a great game, especially in the first half,” he told MilanTV after the game. “I agree we should have closed off the game earlier because a one-goal advantage counts for nothing. Other teams play their football, they play an offensive game, and we fell back too much and conceded two goals. It’s irrelevant though, I believe we had a great game, the fans too had a great time especially in the first half. I believe we were just unlucky not to take home all three points.

“The high pressing? We began to have problems when we fell back, we struggled a bit mainly when we pushed too high looking to take them on one-on-one, and we needed more pace in midfield. Lecce also struggled against us and I believe we deserved to win the game.

“Pioli? He spoke to me on his first day, I immediately liked him because his good nature is evident, and he is honest. He immediately explained what he expects from me and showed faith in me. I had lost faith in myself having not played for a while, now I hope to continue on this path. The coach once again showed his faith in me on Sunday and I thank him for this gesture.

“The next matches? We are well-aware that we deserved to win on Sunday, we will certainly have a tough time against Roma but we have to hold our heads high and move on. We have to work harder in training and during all our games. I believe in time everything will be as it should be.”

Speaking in the mixed-zone, Rade added: “Mentality is the first thing the coach asked of us, we saw that we grew in that on Sunday. We conceded that goal in the end due to back luck and we threw it all away. It was a good game and I’m very sorry for the result.

“In the first half Milan were more decisive, more polished, we saw that we really wanted to win. It’s a shame, but the coach gave confidence to all the players. We are very happy with him. The result is one of the few negative things.”

“… and we needed more pace in midfield.”
Paqueta, Kessie – Yes, pacy when they want to be
Biglia – No, not pacy ever
Krunic – Seemed pacy
Bennacer – Whether pacy or not, can at least pass the ball forward with pace

To sum it up – Pass with pace.

Peace.

I hope you get back your confidence since we know kassie isn’t that good to take the ball forward or through passes

but Kessie has tremendous strength in the middle of the park and his ball winning rate is good. Back when he was with Bakayoko in midfield Milan’s ball winning rate was excellent.
What is usually lacking is what we do with the ball when in possession.
To that end, I think Suso needs some time off. He has become too easy to nullify.
