Léo Duarte said ‘I hope we can find our way to more wins in order to have a positive spell’ after starting in Serie A for the first time last night.
Mateo Musacchio got a red card against Fiorentina and so Marco Giampaolo gave new signing Duarte the nod at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday evening.
The Brazilian played the entire game alongside Alessio Romagnoli at the heart of Milan’s defense. The Rossoneri won the match 2-1 thanks to a second-half comeback inspired by substitutes Lucas Paquetá and Rafael Leão, as goals from Theo (51′) and Kessié (57′ pk) overturned Schöne’s opener. (41′). Pepe Reina also saved a last-minute penalty.
“It was very emotional to start for the first time. It’s something I’ve dreamed since I was a child and it came true, wearing this shirt… I have no words to describe it,” the ex-Flamengo center back told MilanTV. “The win? Yes, very important. We came off three defeats, so I think this win was very important, and after a poor first-half performance we never gave up. That’s how it must be. I hope we can find our way to more wins in order to have a positive spell.
“The partnership with Romagnoli? Alessio is someone that I don’t need to say much more about. He’s a player that I knew when I was in Brazil and despite being young, he’s a reference for me. When we play more matches together, when we train more, we will have a better entente. I think that for a first match together it was valid.
“Settling in? The group is united, they welcomed me very well. I don’t speak good Italian, but they welcomed me very well. They explain to me when I don’t understand something. Little by little, I will get more familiar with them and we will have a better entente. As for the coach, I need to gain his confidence in order to keep playing. And I need to do this every day, in every training.”
