3 points , clean sheet , Piatek scored.
Only these are the positives of this match.
Everything else is a complete disaster.
I really want to write all the things that went wrong today , but i would be retyping every minute of the game , so , let’s just skip that and pray that Inter game will be diffrent.

Bless your heart for using the word “DISASTER”. But Let me assure you that it has not reached it heights yet. Giampaolo is only proving that he is the worst coach ever. I feel sorry for Maldini and Boban who look awfully painful because they know how terrible the situation is.

Milan now has the best squad behind Juve in Italy. Yet we are performing like a relegating side who is being lucky. My condolences to you my fellow Milanista and brothers. What is going on with Giampaolo?

Not a great game
Better passing in the final third in the second half but it was against 10 men
Before people start questioning why paqueta went off , it was cause he was on a yellow and is usually quite aggressive in challenges
When Suso or Calha lose the ball
People hate on them but when it’s paqueta people justify it by saying “he’s Brazilian”
That’s just delusional
Also it seems as if our players are scared to do something in the opposition box
Only kessie and Suso seem to try produce something

You lose the ball when you are trying to make offensive passes and offensive movements.
Suso lost many on trying to dribble in and cross in (weakly). Paqueta lost balls when making sharp turns and more often than not – instead of losing the ball, he was drawing fouls.
Unlike Hakan who was walking and jogging for most of the match and was putting it terrible passes/shots/corners.
Get the points straight mate.

Without being emotional, with what Paqueta showed today, he cannot play as trequartista.

once again delusional
PAqueta wasn’t good enough
SUso and Calha weren’t either
Also Suso tries going forward and gets tacked and you hate on him
You proved my original point
When paqueta loses the ball, “ he is going forward”
WHen Suso or Calha lose the ball “they aren’t good enough for Milan

When did I hate on Suso for losing balls?
When did I hate on Hakan for losing balls particularly?

Man i don’t think that game would be different because we have a silly coach who has many great options on the bench but rather prefers to start with fringe players. Silly coach. More stubborn than Gatusso.

Paqueta tried to create chances. He was even better than Suso since he always tried to get the ball. (Suso just stayed on the right..damn).
But I agree that subbing him off is a right call, with the reasons you said. Moreover, Calha also played better in the second half.

“When the opposition is defending in a block, you have to move the ball side to side, tire them out, stretch them and create the spaces.”

No Sensei. When the opposition is defending in a block AND making so many threatening fast paced counters, when you do is, after recovering the ball, you quickly and decisively move into the attack instead of walking and jogging and passing sideways to let the opposition fall back into their block solid defensive positions.
Surely a master tactician like you should know that.

I would agree with you if the pitch wasn’t horrible. It’s hard to play like that on a pitch that bad. Our players were loosing their footing and falling all over the place. Even if the Milan players changed cleats it wouldn’t have been any different.

It was an ugly game but some games will be like that. Last season we were dropping points in these games.

Now we are winning them and keeping a clean sheet. I’ll take that any day all day.

The pitch was the same for Hellas to make speedy attacks with accurate (or hopeful) long balls. And by the way, last season is the season when we started to win or draw even when we were playing bad after the montella chinese disaster. And we certainly had more shots on target and more attacking plays in three matches compared to this season with Giampaolo so far. In any case, that is all irrelevant now. And I wouldn’t invoke last season arguments if you weren’t bringing it up here. Let’s hope we win the derby even if it is a… Read more »

Of course Hellas Verona played better on this horrible pitch. They are use to it. They play all their home games there compared to other teams like Milan who will only play 1 match the entire season there.

Let’s see how it goes when we play them at the San Siro. I’m sure it will be a more fluid game.

Yeah, right..somehow all the coaches in last year forgot that in football there is always the so-called counterattack. They just wanted the possession football that is “beautiful”.
Ancelotti’s Milan actually used the counter very often, relying on Pirlo & Seedorf’s skills and Kaka & Sheva’s pace.
If you see the matches that Milan won by a margin of two or more, at least one goal came from counter (remember Piatek’s two goal against Napoli?). Even in last match against Brescia the chances that Piatek and Paqueta got were also from counterattack situations, in which they directly attacked right after winning the ball.

There’s a difference between teams like Empoli, Sampdoria, Hellas, etc and AC Milan. Giampaolo was not under pressure at Empoli or Sampdoria, so he had time to experiment and make his team play the way he wanted. People say they played beautiful football – whatever that means. It did not make Sampdoria Europa league contenders. This guys thinks he’s still at Sampdoria. Milan is struggling to break down a team down to 10 men barely 30mins into the game and Giampaolo only makes one change?! Why is Bonaventura not playing? He doesn’t have 90 mins yet. Really? Rudiger comes off… Read more »

I don’t think Giampaolo is to blame. You can see he asks for specific tactical movements and shifts in the field. He can read the game, you can’t deny that to him. He just lacks the midfielders to apply his ideas. He brought Rebic in because he is physical. Tebic started to drop deep in midfield but he didn’t attract any defenders with him. So Giampaolo decided to make Piatek do those movements. And you could see Rebic had more space on the flank and came close to a goal. Defence was good. The only thing that was horrendous was… Read more »

@Valo12 Wait, so why was Krunic on the bench if he can’t replace Kessie? Now, I’m not even saying Kessie should have gone off. My argument is the squad has depth. Bona was on the bench. If he was a risk, then he shouldn’t have been called up. He played pre-season for God’s sake. You guys should stop making excuse for Giampaolo.

I think he was so tensed or scared, he didn’t know what to do.

I am not defending Giampaolo, but at least for the first time in years I can see a coach that has a game plan, even uf that is not the best. Kessie has zero intelligence, no doubt, but he is physical and defensively good. I don’t know Krunic well, but i doubt he is in the same level as Kessie. As far as i have seen, Krunic can make runs forward but needs someone to cover his space left behind. You think Biglia could do that today? And yes, Giampaolo looked stressed out. So, why did he start Biglia when Bennacer was very available? Giampaolo doesn’t think like a coach who wants to win. He thinks he’s in preseason. Milan is a different team compared to Sampdoria. When he was at Sampdoria and Empoli, I don’t he was giving any objective like qualify for Europe. Staying in Serie A was okay for them. It’s not the same with Milan. Basically what Giampaolo is subtly saying from what i see is he doesn’t trust the players management has bought. I agree with you my friend, so frustrating, only one change in 90 min, why milan spent 95 mill on the market and only one of those hit the pitch today, Ricardo Rodriguez was awful today, he almost cost us a goal, and didn’t offered nothing on the attack, theo could came in on second half and Bonna too, they could made the difference when we only have Susso the opponent knows that the game it will probably go on that side, but if we would have Jack’s and Theo on the other side chances could get created, but I… Read more »

This was a tough game to analyze but I have to credit Giampaolo for using 4321 with Paquetá and Suso behind Piatek. After Paquetá’s yellow card he subbed him for Rebic and switched to a 433. That was an intelligent move by Giampaolo. Positives: we got the 3 points and kept a clean sheet. Against smaller teams Milan and other big teams will find it difficult just like Inter did against Udinese with 10men. That game finished 1-0 to inter. You guys are overreacting. Yes, it wasn’t the best performance but it was a win. Milan have always struggled against Verona and we have a bad record there.

We also have struggled after the international break and yet we broke another jinx to get a win.

It was not beautiful football but we got the results we needed and we kept a clean sheet.

Let’s see what happens in the derby next week. Giampaolo has never lost a derby and Inter will be a good test for us to assess how we compare to a top team.

442 anyone? Leao, piatek up front, rebic left wing suso right, kessie bennacer midfield, theo left bk. Might create and score goals if play more direct than passing side to side all match. Didn’t have one shot on target in first half against ten men something not right! Hakan has had is chances and we haven’t a number 10,so let’s get some crosses in!!!!!

No one knows who will win the derby regardless of how Milan is playing currently because all of that goes out the window when it comes to a derby. Form doesn’t count in these games. So it’s beyond ridiculous for anyone to assume we will loose and that also shows a lack faith in our club and players. Until the final whistle blows only then will we know the outcome. I agree with your analysis. The team were practically the same of last year, without any major improvement on he pitch. We couldn’t make any serious pressure on a very weak team with a red card and we almost conceded at the end. No Benacer nor Theo, which is unexplaineble. The only point is that we can’t afford to change coach right now. It wouldn’t make any good, especially because there is no better coach available. @Rosored, sorry to burst your bubble Inter fan, Giampaolo has a squad of 23 potential starters, regardless of who he fields, we can beat any team, injuries or red cards are no excuses in this team as competition is fierce for each position. A win, is a win, is a win. Not a great performance, especially in the first half, but Verona dropping to 10 players actually hurt us, as they really started parking the bus, and Milan always have difficulties against tight defensive play. Biglia was the MOTM in my opinion; his positioning was really good. Hakan and Suso were subpar, and didn’t really utilize the many runs their respective fullbacks made. Paquetta was non-existant. But the ultra negative comments here are unwarranted; this level of a squad should be happy with any away win, no matter how it is achieved. People… Read more »

Great coaches today just don’t play stick to one or two formation but a tactical formation that suit the team and dig out good performances and results. Considering FFP and our desperate needs to reach CL which is the safest path to the goal? to teach new tactics to 23 men or a proven tactician mastermind to adapt and work with the tools he currently have?

I can’t understand the gamble, why start the season handicapped. Urgency is what we have and the new management still acted “confused”.( Or maybe they are thrilled swimming in a pool of season tickets)

This already sounds cliché, but Milan isn’t Sampdoria, there is no time here for experiments.

I’m extremely happy for the three points, with a clean sheet to boot. The guys have to use these gritty wins as the platform for improvement, and also a confidence boost going forward into what will be a very difficult next couple of games.
