Ante Rebić was presented to the press on Friday, saying he feels more mature now compared to his Fiorentina period.
Milan signed Rebić on the last day of the transfer market on a two-year loan in exchange with André Silva who was sent to Ante’s former side Eintracht Frankfurt.
Rebić has been at Milano for a few days now and he’s been training with the squad after returning from international duty. Today, the 25-year-old Croatian was presented to the press at Milanello.
“My feelings after arriving at Milan? Hello to all, first I’d like to thank you all for coming. It’s a dream to be here for me, I’ve already trained with the squad a couple of times and I hope we’ll have a great season. From now on I’ll be answering questions in Croatian, because I’m more at my ease and I don’t want to make any mistakes,” the former Fiorentina man said to the journalists in Italian.
“What did Boban tell me? I already knew a lot about Milan and its history, I didn’t really need to talk about anything with Boban because I knew very well what kind of club Milan is. We just said that I need to prove myself this season, I need to play well. How important it is to find someone like Boban at Milan? It’s very important, he was the first person I talked to about joining Milan.
“If it is the right time to return to Italy? When I first came to Italy to play, I was very young and didn’t have much experience. Following my seasons at Frankfurt, I feel a lot more comfortable, a lot more mature. I believe I can bring everything I’ve learned at Milan and help the cause.
“If I’m ready to play in Verona? I feel well, I feel good. I’m in good shape, I played for my national team and I already featured for Frankfurt this season so I’m ready to play. But if I do, it’ll be down to the coach, he has to choose the team he believes will give him the best chance to win in this game.
“The competition for the spot? I like to fight hard, play hard and work hard. It’s going to be a great challenge to prove myself ahead of these other players. There’s a lot of competition for a starting place but that will make me improve even more, because I’ll need to be at my very best. What have I transformed into? I think that my experience at Frankfurt has helped me grow and develop, now I’m ready to play here in Italy in Serie A. The coaches I’ve worked with helped me develop and grow a lot. I think I’m at the right point at my career for this experience, this challenge.
“Marco Van Basten said that I am a hard bone? At my previous club, I did feel like a hard bone. I do feel strong and confident and having played with the national team and having got good results, I feel ready to start this new experience.
“The derby is played on the day of my birthday? On that day I’ll be turning 26, and I’ll be very happy if Milan were to win the derby. I don’t know if I’ll be playing, or whether I’ll play well or not but the most important thing that I hope for is that Milan win. If it’s true that Inter wanted me? I had no interaction with Inter, perhaps my agent did but I don’t know anything about it. But once I found out that Milan were interested in me, I had no doubts. I spoke to my father who also said I should go to Milan if it was possible.
“Giampaolo? I never met him before but I had heard of him, I heard a lot of good things about him, also from Boban. The impression I’ve had in the few days that I’ve had to meet him were that they were right and he’s really well-prepared.
My ideal position on the pitch? Well, at Frankfurt there were three very different strikers, each with his own role. I’m sure that the same we’ll be true here and I’m sure that I’ll be at my best to do well. I used to be used to playing in a 4-3-3 formation, over the last couple of years we’ve changed so I had to adapt to be a supporting striker. However, it depends on what the coach wants and what the coach decides.
“If I’ve already imagined my first goal? I haven’t thought about my first goal yet, but when it does happen I don’t think I’ll react over enthusiastically because it’s not a part of my character. Why did I choose the #18 jersey? I picked #18 because I wanted #4 but it was already taken, so I took #18 because it’s the same number I use in the national team.
“If I’m ready for Milan? Well I played in Italy before and then I moved to Germany and I’ve now returned to Italy. Each move has helped me develop both as a player and as a person. I do feel ready for the challenges that await me at Milan this season.”
Rebić also spoke to Sky Italia today: “Milan’s ambitions? In recent times I have managed to succeed in both the national team and club levels. I think that with this team we can fly high and also get good results. My favorite role? My ideal role would be the left winger, but in the national team I also played as a striker and sometimes also as a right winger. How I’m doing? In the last 10 days I played two games with Croatia so I feel good and ready. I will make myself available to the coach.
“Boban and Milan? I was too little when Boban was playing, but I remember the winning Milan generation of Zlatan Ibrahimović and Ronaldinho. In these years I’ve followed by Serie A and Milan.”
