Kessié: “It was a good test for all of us, I need to learn as quickly as possible to catch up with the rest of the team”

Franck Kessié says ‘we need to be ready for the start of the season’ after drawing Cesena last night away from home.

Kessié played his first pre-season game last night but it was also the Rossoneri’s last as next Sunday they face Udinese on Matchday 1 of the 2019/20 Serie A.

The Diavolo of Marco Giampaolo failed to impress against Cesena and only managed a 0-0 draw against a Serie C side.

“I’m working on my fitness at the moment because I only got back 10 days ago. Bit-by-bit I’m getting back to match fitness,” Kessié told MilanTV.

Under coach Giampaolo, we’ve changed the way we play, last year we played 4-3-3- while now it’s a 4-3-1-2. It’s a different system of play but we have to get used to it and learn very quickly. I didn’t go to the training camp with the team so I need to learn as quickly as possible to catch up with the rest of the team.

“We knew the game would be tough because whenever a smaller team play against Milan, they give their all. This was a good test for all of us, because next Sunday’s match will be the same. And we need to be ready for the start of the season.

“All is good in the dressing room and on the field. We have made good signings and now we all need to work to reach our objective. We are all ready to begin, the other leagues have started already. Italy is the last, so we’re ready. We’re looking forward to starting the season, we’re going to give it everything we’ve got to reach our objective.”

The Ivory Coast midfielder also spoke to Sky Italia: “I’m happy to be back here [at Stadio Dino Manuzzi], I started my professional career here. The draw is not good for us but it’s still pre-season, the real campaign starts next week. We’re all ready and fired-up to start.

“I was in the African Cup of Nations so I joined the group in the middle, I have to work hard to catch up with their work, I also have to understand the coach’s way of playing. There are differences, Gattuso played 4-3-3- and Giampaolo 4-3-1-2, we have to understand and do what he wants.

“My role in the squad? It will be seen by the directors and coach. I’m here to play, we have to give more than in previous years and do better. I’m trying to do this, to do the best and score more. If Milan are stronger than last year? We have to wait for the league. Two years ago at Atalanta I finished in 4th place and qualified for the Europa League, last year we gave it all.”

It would’ve been a crazyness to sell a young, talented, adapted to italian style, strong midfielder box to box !

I’m so tired of the way this Milan mgmt operate. Ffs just sign the players you need on time as the mercato opens so they all can integrate on time. I don’t see any serious team big teams waiting until the last days of mercato before signing players. That’s why we always end up buying scraps on the last days like, Castillejo, Laxalt, Strinic.
