Davide Calabria wants to qualify for the CL and says ‘our game is more fluid and we are more aware of what to do in certain moments of a game’.
The Serie A season soon starts and tonight Milan play KF Feronikeli in Kosovo for a friendly (20:45 CEST kickoff – live stream on Milan’s official Facebook).
On the pitch, there will be Davide Calabria who is expected to start in the right-back position. Davide has recovered from his injuries and is ready for his 5th full-season as a first team Milan player.
“How am I? I was able to regain my fitness in time for the training camp, I’m very happy about this; I extended my stay here at Milanello both before and after the training camp in order to be 100% fit right from the start with our new coach. I really wanted to be here and luckily, I accomplished it with the medical staff’s help.
“How do I feel about the coach? Well, he is introducing his philosophy of play to the squad. It’s not easy because our players are gradually returning from the break, not all our players are back yet so it won’t be an easy task for the coach either but you can already notice a change in the way we play. Our game is more fluid and we’re more aware of what to do in certain moments of a game, we have to keep it up. It’s not easy and we have to improve certain aspects because our coach is obsessed with the details. We have to make the most of the pre-season.
“What type of coach is Giampaolo? He is very meticulous, he’s very hands-on during training for both attacking and defensive training. With how he wants us to play, we’re going to have to pay close attention to the details, because if one of us makes a mistake the whole team is in trouble. That’s why we’re working hard on our precision, we’ve seen good results in the tests so far. The team has improved game-by game, in each friendly we’ve performed better than the last. We’re happy with our progress, as is the coach. Next, we’ll have to integrate the new arrivals, it will take some time but I’m happy with how things are going with the coach.
“The objective for the new season? I want to confirm the good things I did last season, and I’m confident I can do even better. Obviously, the team’s objective comes before my own, I want to do well, better than last season, I want to play a lot of games, and we want to qualify for the Champions League. We came so close last season, this season we want to make it.
“If I feel like a role model? We have a very young squad, but I’ve been at Milanello for a couple of years, and have been a part of the first team. I’m almost one of the most experienced players wearing this jersey. So, if I can help my teammates out, I’m happy to do so. The same goes for all the staff at Milanello, this has become a second family for me so I’m completely at ease.
“Rafael Leão and Léo Duarte? They’ve just joined us, so it’s still too early to judge. They’ve only been involved in three or four sessions with the team. Let’s give them time, they’re good guys who’ve been working hard since they arrived. Time will tell…”
