Pietro Accardi believes Ismaël Bennacer has great room for improvement, but says the Rossoneri fans will love him.
Bennacer will be the third signing of the summer, and according to Carlo Pellegatti on his YouTube channel, the player, after winning the African Cup of Nations – and the Best Player of the Tournament Award, will be in Milano on Tuesday.
It remains to be seen whether he will undergo the medical on the day of his arrival or the day after, but what’s clear is that the 21-year-old will play at Milan next season. The Rossoneri secured his signing after agreeing to pay Empoli €16m plus bonuses and have already agreed a five-year contract with the player worth €1.5m-1.6m plus bonuses per season.
“How did we convince him to come two years ago? We have good scouts around Europe and when we find the right profile we try not to miss it. Of course, we made several trips for Bennacer,” Empoli director of sport Pietro Accardi told La Gazzetta dello Sport on Sunday.
“Bennacer is curious, also tactically, he’s simpatico and open. Everyone in the squad loved him because he never spares himself. He wants to get to the top and he will get there. I believe that today he can only thank us, because Empoli, for a young player, is a good place to grow. He has a lot of room for improvement.
“He’s a flexible player as Giampaolo likes? Here at Empoli it has gone like this… also Krunić started as a trequartista and then changed his role. The new Milan coach likes those who have a vision of the game, who know how to dribble and can play multiple roles.
“Bennacer has technique but he’s also combative? In this point of view I’d say he’s the new Gattuso. I have a move he did against Fiorentina in mind: Ismaël wins the ball back, an opponent falls on him and he takes a cut to his tibia. He gets up to win the ball back again, then we gave him 7 stitches. The fans at San Siro will love him. The fans, in any club, want to see players who sweat and fight.”
Bennacer will likely fill the role of the regista at Milan, dictating the play in the middle of the park. Judging by his performances in the AFCON, the Rossoneri have signed an excellent young player.
