Milan are looking for a center back and are linked with Dayot Upamecano and Merih Demiral, but the prices are high.
The mercato of the Rossoneri seems to have slowed down a bit since the start of pre-season, or perhaps the Milan directors have just been working in relative secret.
Giampaolo is still missing players in a few roles, as Milan need to strengthen the midfield after losing the race for Jordan Veretout to Roma, and an additional center back also needs to be added.
Ozan Kabak was a target but chose to go to Schalke instead, while the name of Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren has been mentioned since the start of the season. In the last days, however, there has been talk about two players: RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and Juventus’ Merih Demiral.
According to Antonio Vitiello of Milannews.it, today there were new telephone contacts between Milan and the intermediaries representing Upamecano to get an update on the possibility of a deal. Leipzig have set a very high price for the 20-year-old (some say €30-40m while others say €60m) but Milan are hopeful they can reduce the price by including players, like Hakan Çalhanoğlu.

As for Demiral, he only joined Juventus earlier this summer from Sassuolo for €18m but with Matthijs de Ligt arriving he could find limited playing time. According to Sky, Milan are interested in the 21-year-old Turk, but Juve want €40m for him. They can also agree for a lower price, but would want to include buy-back clause in his contract. The Rossoneri therefore are evaluating their options.
It’s been made very clear this summer that Milan will not spend on players more than they think they are worth. It cost the management a few targets already but the policy seems clear.

For me, including Hakan in any Milan deal is a wrong move. I don’t think this is the time to add reliable and valuable players to deals.
Praet > Chalha
Deku, I don’t know where are u from and what kind of football are u watching there but you can’t say praet is better than Calhanoglu because you don’t have arguments ! Calhanoglu played in bundesliga before he came at Milan, praet played in belgium league, calhanoglu in bundesliga played even in champions league, in germany he scored a lot of goals, he is a very smart and technical player who had a very bad period because of his private life and because gattuso played him wrong ! Praet played in belgium without wow performances and then he played in… Read more »
Hakan has already established he is anything BUT reliable! I would get rid of him in the blink of an eye!
Why people think Hakans Talent is inline with Milans ambitions,is beyond. The guy is painfully average.
love how me, you and Benny have said basically the same thing and i get -6. XD
They must bring this guy
How can juve buy him for 18m two weeks ago and instantly ask for 40m without him even training there yet? Really hope we don’t get him or think spending anywhere close to that. I don’t think we should sell calhanoglu as he may have a great season under giampaolo. Calhanoglu changed his play when he slotted into the midfield. We all knew he wasn’t a winger but with this new formation he can play in many roles
They had an 18m agreement for him before he even played a Seria A game, and he has increased his value since.
Cuz there are not fool like Milan who sell their players for cheap….
No Milan don’t sell its players for cheap. Milan always bought average players expensive upon which no one wants to put their money. Now things are starting to change in the right direction with Maldini and Boban in charge.
If we only kept Zapata and Abate we would have had a tested CB back up and a RB back up. Conti could have moved to a right side mid which is his first position any way, and the money we would have saved could have been invested in a more needed and crucial positions like DM and SS.
I still don’t get why we let Zapata and Abate go. They wanted a multiple season contract? Give it to them! They deserve it
If only we’d kept and Abate and Zapata… We could do with shipping a few more goals to the opposition next season. It hasn’t even started yet but it’s obvious Boban and Maldini have no idea what they’re doing and Giampaulo had better get us in the Champions League or else he’s a garbage coach, *burp*.
Wait until the summer mercato closes before making any assumptions. We still have a long way to go and I’m confident we will bring in some quality players.
Nick i think dejan made a sarcastic comment about how people want to keep zapata and abate. And how some people are still grieving over gattuso they already pointing gun to giampoalo’s head
@Lando….ok, thanks. I honestly missed that.
At least someone got it, haha.
Well said Nick! I trust the knowledge and vision of Maldini and Boban. The only good things FassoBelli did when they were in charge in the Chinese era was not buy Beloti and Savic-Milinkoviv for the high price they were listed. Now where are they?
Actually if one of them joins us it’s a big plus for demiral maybe loan with purchase for 20/25m.I think one of them is coming to milan.
We need a top young CB to put with Romagoli to form an elite duo, Demiral or or Upamecano I hope they make the right choice. I think Hakan could do well this season, but we’re gonna have lots of players in similar roles so I’d accept losing him if it can help us make a big signing.
I hope Calhanoglu stays. We need a quality CB but not at the expense of a player I believe will perform well under Giampaolo.
Milan are close to signing Angel Correa according to Gianluca Di Marzio. I wasn’t expecting this as I thought we were going for Joaquin Correa from lazio.
We are also trying to sign Memphis Depay according to Di Marzio. Hopefully we can get him. Depay would be a good fit for sure.
Piatek-Depay partnership with Paqueta supporting them from behind would be a dream attacking trio for us.
Abate and Zapata?? Seriously??
Juve sign De Ligt, Napoli have Manolas and K2 and Inter have Godin – Skriniar..
At least give a good partner for romagnoli or we can dream again for UCL..
Oh i forgot we got LORD BONERA lmao
Demiral and Upamecano is a different type of CB. But both suitable as Romag’s partner. Demiral is better in aerial. Upamecano is better in speed and agility. Considering Seri A competitors, I prefer Upamecano.
I think dear Maldini is successful so far……he n his associates r trying their best to bring our past glory again…now they r fighting with several issues like– managing the mistakes done by previous Management , FFP issues, negotiations with greedy super agents of potential players etc…..i think my fav Maldini can overcome these issues…. So we should keep our patience intact until the last day of transfer window……Good luck Milan
Hey this guy is very talented and good for the future. Stop messing around with strikers, keep the 3 we have and see what they can do together for a season or two. get rid of Antonio Donnarumma, Strinic, Biglia, Laxalt or RR, Borini and Castillejo and buy 1-2 midfielders like Praet and someone else and I think we can be sorted and start preparing for next season. We need a compact team because we only play in serie A and coppa this coming season, get the positions covered for what our new coach likes to play, cut the salary… Read more »
