Ismaël Bennacer is joining Empoli teammate Rade Krunić at Milan and he will be the third signing of the summer.
Milan have been searching for reinforcements in central midfield, as after the exits of Tiémoué Bakayoko, Riccardo Montolivo and Josè Mauri, the Rossoneri’s squad only includes one regista – Lucas Biglia – and he too may leave.
Empoli director of sport Pietro Accardi was at Casa Milan yesterday morning to discuss the final details of the transfer of Rade Krunić (who has already passed his medical) to Milan. However, during the meeting the parties also talked about Ismaël Bennacer.
After a day of negotiations, it has been confirmed by Sky Italia that there is now an agreement between Milan and Empoli for the 21-year-old. The Diavolo will pay €16m plus €1-2m of bonuses for the Algerian. The player meanwhile will sign a five-year deal worth a reported €1.3m yearly.
In addition to meeting Accardi, there was also a secret meeting between Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara, and Bennacer’s agent Moussa Sissoko. The talks will continue over the next few hours but unless something very surprising happens, Milan will sign Ismaël and coach Marco Giampaolo, who will be presented to the press on Monday evening, will have a new option in midfield.
Empoli had received multiple offers for Bennacer but the bid of Milan was superior. After signing Krunić from Empoli for €8m, and Theo Hernandez from Rea Madrid for €20m, now Bennacer arrives.
