Gennaro Gattuso is apparently planning a change in the formation against Lazio.
Gattuso said earlier today that “our main problem is not the formation but rather our approach towards certain games”.
However, according to Sky Italia, Rino is planning a big change in the formation to face Lazio in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia as he’s going to use 3-4-3 instead of the 4-3-3 that’s been often used.
Gattuso stressed the importance of not conceding tomorrow and perhaps because of it he is reportedly set to add another center back from the first minute. This CB would be none other than Mattia Caldara, who spent most of the season on the sidelines due to the injury and has only played one match this season – in the 1-0 win over Dudelange in the Europa League back in September.
Alongside Caldara there should be the usual Mateo Musacchio and Alessio Romagnoli. In midfield there should be Davide Calabria and Diego Laxalt on the wings, and Franck Kessié & Tiémoué Bakayoko in the middle. That would leave Lucas Paquetá once again on the bench. The Brazilian has recently returned from injury and Gattuso may not want to risk him before Sunday’s Torino game.
Hakan Çalhanoğlu is also expected to start from the bench, with Suso, Krzysztof Piątek and Samu Castillejo playing from the start. In goal, there will be Pepe Reina and not Gianluigi Donnarumma, as the former Napoli and Liverpool man is the designated ‘keeper for the cup tournaments.
Meanwhile, Donnarumma, Calabria, Romagnoli, Ricardo Rodriguez and Kessié are one yellow away from suspension and should they get booked and Milan advance to the final then they’d miss it.
