Ok, time to shake off the rust, and get our first win in a month. Let’s win this.

Critical matchups – Kessie vs SMS, and whether we can cancel L. Alberto’s influence. If we manage these, I’m guessing immobile will have a quite game. Also, still waiting for Suso to get back to his start-of-the-season impact.

Why are they forcing so much from the left through RR, Hakan and Borini while Suso has nothing to do

This is a win or bust. Roma just moved up to 4th place. So this game is all out win or nothing because Atalanta will do their thing tomorrow which means more pressure. Smh.

45 minutes, pretty much even first half.

Milan are allowing Lazio too much, with Bakayoko, RicRod, and especially Musa not influential enough in defense. A lot of this match lays on Hakan who started bad, but got better. Still having SMS constantly in front you doesn’t make life easy.

We need to push more from the flanks. Suso needs to trust Calabria more, and likewise Hakan and Borini (both made a superb crosses the one time they got the ball in that position). Also Hakan should continue staying relatively close to Suso, when the latter is close to box.

Did Borini move to RWB while Laxalt is on LW? What is this?

So this is now some version of 3421 with Laxalt and Borini on WB, Suso and Hakan behind Cutrone now?

Super result for us, with an okay performance. I’m in San Siro for the cup semifinals, but this was a much more important result. Kessie was MotM for me, but also Romag and Borini had a good match, and Bakayoko was great defensively in the second half. All and all, we won this with more spirit (and a bit of luck) then talent, but a win is a win is a win.

First half was even-steven, second half was all ours. They had one chance with Romulo. We now have a better head to head against all our top four competitors – Roma, Atalanta and Lazio. We’re in fourth spot and oh my how well deserved it is so far. A massive win, if you look at the entire game, all players were really giving their all tonight, and I’m so glad they did and didn’t buckle down. They were a little shaky at times, but the determination the boys showed after the goal made me so happy. I just hope Calabria… Read more »

Truth be told, the only good thing about this match is the result, I will keep saying this till ever, this coach is not capable of managing this Milan, it is very obvious that he doesn’t know what to do and when to do them, for these players to thrive in this his undefined zero tactics, shows they have quality …what the fuck was all that formation change? What kinda subtitution was that? I pity the players who have to deal with the stress of turning up his Zero tactical play on the pitch, there are till plenty of matches… Read more »

Like Kossymilan said this Milan team has absolutely zero tactics. They are horrible to watch. I don’t know what is happened on the pitch. Like Matteo Bonetti from BeIN Sports said this Milan team has no identity. There’s no fluid movement from the players when transitioning from defense to attack. We had problems providing service to Higuain and here we are at the end of season and the same thing with Piatek. If Milan continue like this next season Piatek will struggle to find the net regularly because every team next season will find a way to close him down.… Read more »

@Kossymilan… i’m with you 100%. I couldn’t have said that any better. This was mass confusion. Substitution again was bizarre. Milan paid 24m for Conti. A RB who has the most assist and goals in a season and Gattuso left him on the bench only to sub in Laxalt for Calabria. Smh.

I’m glad we won but wtf was with the substitution and formation change.unbelievable!

If Milan qualify for the CL and face any teams from La Liga or Bundesliga in the playoffs we will probably not make it to the group stages.

Milan won’t make it out of the group? And why is that? Who do you think we’ll face there? Seria a CL competition is in general harder than the first CL group stage. And if we do get kicked out, so what? We still bank the cash for qualifying, and we can still continue this building phase. Some people want to see everything black, as if it distinguishes them from others, as of it makes them look smart. We didn’t play a good game, fair enough. I wish Galliani would stay away from Milan games. The sight of him makes me sick. Milan is in this state primarily because of him and his back door transfer deals. Berlusconi gave him 150m transfer money and in his last season before selling to Chinese and Galliani bought useless players. Kaka never wanted to leave Milan neither did Ibra and Tiago Silva and Galliani sold them because he mismanaged the club’s finances. Enough with the Pirlo issue, the man didn’t want to train with Milan, he said himself at his book. And blame Berlusconi too, he just used Milan has a political influence. He didn’t want to invest in expensive players like we usually see in modern football. Both are to blame.

From now, Milan should go with 352 or 3421 or 3412 ! It allows Hakan get his best position (MC playmaker or AMC). He plays better recently. It also give Cutrone more playing time. It also gives best position to Calabria and Conti at Right Wing Back. It also hinder Suso’s weakness for his speed (as SS or AMC doesn’t require high speed like RW).

Brilliant! You get my vote for coach of the year 🙂 This is exactly why I want Gasperini at Milan. However, Gattuso has no clue how those formations work. He will most likely stick with a 433 which is freaking bizarre because he doesn’t have the players for that system. In a 433 the goals come from “all” the front 3 players not just 1 target player. Barcelona, Man City, Liverpool and Ajax are a perfect example of how that system should work. Those teams goal output is spread across all the front 3 players and they play with a… Read more »

I believe that with a better coach we would be better than Inter and Roma by a mile. They have been poor this season. I would even dear to say we would be challenging Napoli for 2nd place. Napoli has not been that great under Ancelotti. If you look at our current setup a good coach would see that Suso’s positioning on the right is too wide. Every top team needs a top coach and top players, but at beginning of building (or rebuilding) signing a top coach is more relevant since he would ask gradually for the right players to implement his tatics and style. Without that coming first, a bunch of top players won’t beat top teams, only medium teams at most. The quality of football that Milan play is just unacceptable. Regardless of the result. Real Madrid fans are no different from those of us who have high expectations of Milan. The prestige of Milan is only 2nd to Real Madrid. The quality or lack there of is not so much a personnel problem in terms of players but more or less a managerial problem. Switching the formation in a middle of the match shows balls. Yeah, there is no overlapping at all. And no change of rythims we attacking. We lack a pivot in attack. We’re in 4th position. Gattuso isn’t as clueless as some people think. I mean sure we can work on our attack. But Milan’s defending has dramatically improved under him. If the coach is aware of Bakayoko’s influence in front of the defense why did he move him out of position for Biglia? That’s pretty stupid don’t you think. Real Madrid play in a Mickey Mouse league, even getting found out by a well-drilled Ajax side. Gattuso is tactically-challenged, but kudos to the team for remaining in a top 4 position. I know that’s largely due to sub-par Roma and Lazio teams, but there are no easy games in Serie A.

Absolutely. It’s a top-heavy league, with utterly skewed funding model. Top 3 never ever change. Sevilla and Valencia are spirited performers, but when the 18 lower teams attempted to renegotiate the TV sponsorship, Barcelona and Real Madrid vetoed their efforts. Little wonder they won more UCLs when Barca and Real each demanded more than twice the TV sponsorship of their nearest rival Athletico Madrid, and the top 3 teams in turn claimed more than the remaining 17 teams combined. The last team (la Coruna) to make any meaningful assault on the latter stages of the UCL ended up going bust… Read more »

Absolutely. There’s a reason for that lovely statistic. Real Madrid and Barcelona have traditionally demanded the lion’s share of TV funding. They each claimed more than 3 times that of their nearest rival (always Athletico Madrid, surprise surprise!). Top 3 teams in turn claimed more TV revenues than the remaining 17 teams combined. Hence no other teams can dream of competing. Any of those long shots of ours could’ve ended in a goal and if it did, scenario with the fans would’ve been different. So what if this year we get more players that gattuso wants to compliment his approach? Say what you will but he has gotten us to fourth and has a better head to head with every team we are… Read more »

You made some good points. But then again, it’s true that his subs were awful. Good substitutions could change a tough game by tipping the balance of energy just as much as bad subs can ruin a good match by ruining energy. The matches we lost, could’ve been different if subs were made correctly. As for example, the Milan Derby. lack of Tactics and wrong Subs ruined that game for us. But anyway, those things work towards building a new coach’s experience. Which is probably resulted us having the pleasure of watching an aggressive tactical change here in Lazio match… Read more »

@milan4lyf… I agree with the points you made. I also don’t believe that Gattuso is responsible for Bakayoko’s form because like you, I honestly don’t believe Bakayoko would be playing if Biglia wasn’t injured. The moment Biglia was fit to play Gattuso moved Bakayoko to the right which was a failed move. If Gattuso was truly aware of Bakayoko’s tactical influence in front our defense he would have never played him out of his best position to accommodate Biglia. I also agree that we are now playing like a team under Gattuso compared to our team under Montella, Mihajlovic or… Read more »

It was gattuso’s decision to give romagnoli the captaincy. Such a young man accepted and has been nothing but class. Gattuso deserves credit for that. I’m not saying gattuso has been perfect. Some players and many times the subs have been questionable, but if he gets us champions League football shouldn’t he get his shot to compete in it with players he wants in the summer? I think so. It’s no easy feat to have this team who have been struggling with performances and managers in the last five years and finally make them gel together and actually look half… Read more »

We can’t deny the fact that if Gattuso can take us back to UCL, he should get a chance to prove himself at the highest stage of football. That will also build up his experience. That is Good for Rino. But will it be good for Milan? We can all agree that Milan is bigger that any coach or any player. The Club always comes first. In my opinion Milan will definitely fare better with a coach that has CL experience and a good tactical awareness. But then again, a new coach with a team with completely new players can’t… Read more »
