What a great and surreal match after a really scary first half where we looked shaky as hell. That we was under immese pressure in first half really shouldnt have come as a surprise to anyone though as Atalanta is a difficult team playing against. Combine that with the fact that they have some very active and loud fans close to the pitch that does everything in their power to harras the opposition this was never gonna be an easy game even if the result may imply otherwise. Piateks equaliser was truly amazing and came just at the right moment… Read more »

Thank you for this sensible post, Martin. Completely agree:)
In past seasons we could have a game/huge win like this and then make it all undone for in the next game against a smaller team, let’s hope that this isn’t the case this time, and that the players will step up vs Empoli and carry on the, not only good form that we’ve had recently, but the determination, cutting edge and sharpness that has been displayed in pretty much all areas of the field. The coming games will show how much the team has matured. Hope to see good signs!

Hey there Milanista121 thanks for the kind words of yours and sorry for the late reply as i hadnt seen your post before now as i havent been giving this thread much attention after my second post wasnt published for several days, Anyways i agree its very important for us to build on the great start of the second half of the season. I do feel pretty confident that we will get a fairly convincing victory today against empoli as we play at home and are in great form so i think 2-0 isn’t too much to ask for. When… Read more »

Hey there stuball78 i deffently agree with you that its one of the main reasons why the substitution was done as ive mentioned in my third point. It doesnt exlude an combination of the rest though in my view. Anyways we played a great 2nd half and won the game and our substitutions proved to be right in the end.

Amazing game and an equally amazing comeback. However, I am really worried about the state of our wingers (Hakan and Suso) Even Hakan’s goal was more of a midfield style shot rather than a winger’s. I really want to see this milan team work up a way to play 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1. We have two solid tanks in the form of Baka and Kessie. Kessie is a total shit player in the opponents half. He should be doing what he’s good at and that is chasing the opponents and muscling them away in the midfield. And did anyone else notice… Read more »

Forza Milan!!!!
I am happy with the boys’ display & good substitutions by Gattuso.
Hope they maintain this form, hunger and with little luck, top 4 is guaranteed.
Happy days ahead for the fans.

#TRANSFER NEWS#

I just read, Milan is after Thauvin from Marseille. I think he or Nicolas Pepe from Lille are the best wingers of the French league (besides any PSG player).

Hopefully, Suso, Montolivo, Strinic, Bertolacci, Calhanoglu and Borini bring some money in when they are sold.

I’ve never heard of that guy. As long as we buy anyone better than Suso and Calhanoglu. Which should not be so hard.

I get it with monti as he really isnt the player he once was and frankly hasnt been good for several years so im glad to see him leave at the end of the season. Biglia isnt a liability infact we should be happy to have him back for us as he will give us extra options in the midfield. One of the reasons why we didnt have a good season last year was partially because biglia had a bad season but fortunately he has stepped up his game and before his injury had become an integral part of the… Read more »

Next season will likely be biglia’s final season with us as he’ll be 35 in 2020. I hope milan will sign sandro tonali this summer and loan him back to brescia for a season. Brescia look like certain promotion candidate from serie b this season so tonali can gain serie a experience in a less pressurized environment before coming back to replace biglia. A midfield of paqueta – tonali – kessie/bakayoko is certainly interesting

Atalanta – Milan, finally I see a mature and pragmatic team full of young and upcoming stars!! The foundation is there. One or two pieces to add in the summer, plus Baka and get rid of all the dead wood in the house. I think this way we are set for great times again. What a difference Paq and Piatek make!! Incredible!!! P.S. I don’t wish we buy any players with superstar or diva attitude considering the team spirit we have right now. We need those who want to be at Milan and want to work hard for it!! Suso is not playing this next game What do you guys think about playing Conti on the right wing in front of Calabria? All we really need is someone who is capable of crossing the ball into the box for this game with Empoli.

Was watching some old Alexander Pato clips from his first 3 seasons with us, and dang.
And ik it’s just híghłíghtś but his pace, his dribbling, his shot. The other teams defense seemed slow against him.
On today’s terms imo he was as good as Mbappe, Neymar at Barca, or Dybala. Big shame on the wasted potential, growth spurt and Milan medical staff screwed him big time. Bitter tears.
I see how Milan fans get frustrated with Hakan and Borini, it just doesn’t compare, I had forgotten how good we were. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

There should be a serious investigation on Milan’s medical staff. In the past decade many Milan young talents lost potential due long injuries. Ex Pato, SeS, Conti, Caldara off the top of my head. And the whole injury crisis of December.
If not medical staff then staff in charge of warm ups and stretching.

Martin Bernhard

In regard of the injury question i would like to know if inter has been mared by injuries to the same extent as ac milan has the last decade or so because we share the same stadium that could be a partial reason. San siros pitch isnt exactly the prettiest sight to behold all the time but milanello should be scrutinized as well, soil, pitches etc. When that is said some of our injuries comes down to bad management of our players. If i remember correctly in regard of patos case i believe that they tried to beef him up… Read more »

Won’t comment on all medical issues of the players and the staff, but man… Pato. Some goals of his incredible but fragile legs still “haunts” me till this day. Especially the one againts barca, when he made a through pass for himself from middle of the pitch, left all diffense in pure shame and nutmeged Valdes from outside the box. Geez, he was truly something else as a striker. Abnormal explosive power, fast decision making and killer instict towards the frame. He was my favourite, still fallow him, even though he’s far from what he was at Milan. Maybe because… Read more »

If we choose to use the option then we are allowed to start negotiating with Bakayoko. If he agrees to join us, Chelsea loses him for the already agrees sum.

I think only potential issue in regard of Chelsea getting a transfer ban is that they propably wont budge in negotiations as we propably was hoping for a discount on the 35 mil allready agreed upon in the summer. When that is said and with bakayokos perfomances for milan in mind i doubt they would have shown much leeway in negotiations to begin with as 35 mil for him isnt too much in nowadays market.

Tell Kessie he should have cross that ball to Piatek like Calhanoglu did in the 2nd half instead of taking a shot into the side netting in the 1st half. That’s what I’m talking about. Not his chip goal in the 2nd half. Sigh!

OMG gatusso needs to stop subbing piatek off so early…. he is really annoying. this guy looks like he wants more goals but gattuso just dosnt care. whats worse is cutrone dosnt score when he comes on nore does the team with all do respect its starting to get to me. i watch man city for example i dont see aguero coming off every 60-70 min of the game. i dont see abaumyang or suarez or ronaldo go off. the reason this bothers me is because piatek could very well beat ronaldo to golden boot but gatusso is stopping this.… Read more »

I totally agree. Cutrone also robbed Borini of a goal which I felt was a bit harsh but he interfered with the play from an offside position. So it was the correct call to rule out that goal. Cutrone also missed an open net even though it would have been called offside but I can tell he’s very tense and anxious to score which is not good. He needs to just chill and enjoy his football when he gets his chance. He’s not in Higuain or Piatek league. So he needs to be patient. Sigh! I am only “assuming” that… Read more »

I agree. It’s getting annoying to see Gattuso subbing Piatek so early instead of just waiting until at least the 75-80min like he did with Bakayoko who should be more tired since he played more minutes than Piatek.

I assume that Gattuso subbed Piatek early because of the midweek Coppa Italia game against Lazio on Tuesday.

Crap first half then we woke up! Is it me or i think the refs are gunning us down. Borini’s goal was unfairly cancelled even though Cutrone’s placement was shit! I really don’t like Cutrone, a spoilt brat. Piatek works hard and keeps his head down. Shame he was subbed so early in the game. Conti wow!!! Amazing game for him. Hope we won’t star wasting time with Cutrone now. Bring Silva back and have Cutro as third striker. Always thought this boy is overrated, look at Piatek, he came and he conquered seria a!

Milanellofm

Milanellofm

Cutrone comes on when the game is 3-0…. When milan are killing the game off. So tell me how he’s useless or overrated or a ‘spoilt brat’… Smh a kid who had to save us last season and took over from higuain after he failed is all of a sudden no good? I get it piatek is awesome, but what wrong with cutrone getting minutes in?

Milanista121
Guest
Milanista121

You say that you think Cutro is overrated, that we should bring back A. Silva over Cutro, and that Piatek came and conquered serie A. Allright mate. Here goes, Cutro had his first full season in Serie A, just like A. Silva came from a different league the way Piatek did. Piatek has already scored tripple the amount of goals in Italian football than what A. Silva did in a full season. Cutro also outscored A. Silva in his first full season with the club.
Where’s the logics mate?:)

Milanmario1
Guest
Milanmario1

Cutrone is shit if you compare goals per minutes played to Piatek and Silva. Piatek has to come off every game when he could score more just to keep this shitbag happy. He wasted Borini’s well deserved goal. Totally useless. An overrated mediocre (at most) player. Never mind, that’s what I think and I would like to see him play less and less until he disappears in the unknown where he belongs. 🙂

Milanmario1
Guest
Milanmario1

I’ve been pissed off with Cutrone since he was preferred to Silva, a guy who did well for his team and national team whilst Cutrone did well at Primavera. Silva scores for us in EL but still this shitbag was preferred in serie A.

Milanellofm
Guest
Milanellofm

I liked Silva, but don’t tell me he took his minutes. Silva and kalinic were horrible and an unknown cutrone had to come in and take the lead. He had over 10 goals and same thing this year always had to come on for higuain in the last minutes and save the day. Of all the players you’re complaining about, cutrone should be last. But hey, you have your opinion

What a great second half showing after a lackluster performance in the first half. We looked like a totally different team in the second half in both of our last games and it must be of some concern. Whether it’s a tactical approach or a mental disposition of the players, it has to be addressed and soon. Overall though, it was a well deserved win that will allow us to remain in the hunt for champions league football next season. #Post Match Analysis# Very good game of a once again strong Milan. Gave away only one opportunity for a very decent and organized Empoli. I am really glad Piatek scored once again. People who are nagging about his sub are so shortsighted…. pffff…. The guy gets knocked a lot and we need him fresh for every single next game. What bothers me is that Cutrone is very poor from the bench. Big difference between him and Piatek. Conti nice and glad for his assist. So, if Piatek didn’t score would Gattuso have taken Piatek off in 68min to give him a rest to play a misfiring Cutrone? That argument about Gattuso taking Piatek off early to rest him is not logical. In hindsight we have a Coppa Italia game on Tuesday so I didn’t expect Piatek to play the full 90mins against Empoli. But this nonsense about subbing Piatek early to rest him has no logic. According Gattuso’s press conference he stated that Bakayoko was not 100% fit unlike Piatek but Bakayoko was on the pitch longer until the 80th. He is subbing Piatek… Read more »

Of course he also subs Piatek to give Cutrone his minutes. Cutrone earned it, but it works both ways my friend. Piatek gets knocked a lot in these games. All opponents fear him now, so they use everything they have to kill him down. Just liked they did with Van Basten. Also, people on the bench, are the most dangerous people in the team. They can start fires with just the littlest spark. So it is important to keep them satisfied. In my eyes, Gattuso saves Piatek from injuries and gives Cutrone his minutes. So win-win here. But also in… Read more »

@Mathijs Savicevic….My friend when Van Basten was playing goalkeepers could pick up the ball from a back pass from their teammates. A foul from behind wasn’t a red card offense. Two yellow cards didn’t equal a red. A lot has changed since Van Basten playing days. Especially sports medicine and the rules of the game. Players are more protected by the referees. Milan is not playing in any European competition. Therefore, apart from the Coppa Italia there are no midweek games every week for the coach to feel the need to consistently rest Piatek. Another convincing win and another clean sheet which indicates that our defense is improving although Empoli missed a good chance to score. We are also doing better in the final third of the pitch as we are scoring more goals and creating more chances. Good signs!

Once again a real commanding display against a “smaller” team, first Cagliari and now Empoli – and a win vs a UCL contender in the middle of them. It’s been ages since we saw this, in past seasons these relegation battle teams have come to San Siro and played the game of their lives, fighting with everything they have, for everything, while we’ve just been poor and lacklustre. Not now though, the team is maturing greatly in recent weeks. Really solid win. Plenty of positives. Funny that people here more interested in discussing Gattuso subbing Piatek early and bashing Cutro, while they never mention about Samu great performance last night. It was a under par first half, explosive in the second!! Conti played well for his first start in 18 months after unlucky injuries. His defending was good, although caught out a couple times in the first half. But as the game wore on he was better defensively and offensively. His crossing down that wing is seriously world class. No one is being pessimistic or negative about the team but it’s obvious to some of us that certain players are putting their own personal feelings and egos ahead of the team. @nick, what’s the problem with subbing him in the 70th minute when we have a two goal and a third goal lead respectively? Make it clear for me? What’s wrong with keeping his legs fresh while giving Cutrone minutes to actually make an impact?
How would you feel if we are in a two/three goal lead and Piatek gets a tackle that gets him injured or pulls something while sprinting in the closing minutes?

And nobody dislikes Cutrone? Check out your buddy Milanmario1’s comments about never liking him and calling him a “spoilt” brat.

@Milanista121….I’m not against subbing Piatek. I’m against subbing him as soon as he scores or too early before the 75-80th minute. Also I’m against the “reason” for his substitution which has nothing to do with him being rested. That’s pure speculation my friend. I value your opinion on his blog and I know we won’t agree on everything but the reason behind piatek substitution is more about giving into Cutrone’s temper tantrum which Gattuso alluded to in his press conference. The reason behind his substitution is Gattuso trying to appease Cutrone who is showing a bad attitude over playing time.… Read more »
