On the eve of Genoa v AC Milan on matchday 20 in Serie A – scheduled for Monday 21 at 15:00 CET at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris Rino Gattuso today held his pre-match press conference at Milanello. GENOA “They run a lot and bring the game to you. We must ensure that we remain in the match throughout and not disappear after our first mistake because quality always comes through in the end. I want to see the same Milan side from the first seven or eight games, when we were playing some of the best football in Italy and… Read more »

How about some Duvan Zapata? Milan should get him next summer. What do you guys think?

Milanellofm

We already have too many zapatas

nick
Guest

I hope you realize that Zapata is more reliable than Musacchio. That’s probably the most obvious thing that Gattuso got right. Despite Zapata past howlers he has been our most consistent CB

As for his cousin Duvan Zapata, he has also been a very consistent goal scorer in Serie A and he’s having his best season under Gasperini.

No surprises there because young players always excelled under Gasperini which is why I would love to see him coach Milan.

Duvan zapata has finally find his right environment. He’s playing amazing at Atalanta. At three other serie a team’s not so much. So why would he want tk leave n why would we want him at 27 who just started performing in the last 8 games?

And I agree zapata has had a better season this year but he’s zapata, we all know at any moment he’s got a howler in him to cost us. For the moment I’m enjoying his strong appearances

nick
Guest
nick

At 27 he’s at his prime so I’m not sure the reason to mention his age as if that’s a bad thing. Luca Toni didn’t start playing well until that age anyway same for Miraslav Klose.

Milan need another striker after signing Piatek and Duvan Zapata fit that bill precisely.

Like it or not, Gattuso is not good enough to coach Milan. He doesn’t know how to harness talent of players.
No wonder he blocked selling Batolacci who in everyone’s opinion is not of Milan standard, the guy is not even playing, when we could have sold him for a few Euros.
I even read sometime last week, he preferred Batshuayi to Piatek. I almost fainted. If we allow him pick our players, we will be ruined.

nick
Guest

Totally agree. Gattuso wasn’t the smartest at Milan and it’s pretty obvious now that he’s our coach. Honestly, I can’t wait for Milan to replace him with someone of a better caliber like Conte, Jardim, Gasperini or worse case Wenger. I would even take Capello out of retirement.

What I don’t want is to see another inexperienced rookie coach at Milan.

Agreed – I think we could’ve got at least ten euros for Bertolacci. I remember Gattuso bursting into song about him but didn’t know he blocked his sale… Doesn’t surprise me though. And what’s happening with Halilović? Has he even been in the dressing room yet?

Rossi

Halilovic is on his way to Genova as part of the Piatek transfer, the problem is Bertolaci should also be part of the deal but it seems he prefers staying in Milan since he has a good sallary here simmilar like Montolivo he dosent want to lower his sallary. So in order to finish the deal Milan might be forced to give Jose Mauri or Plizzari in stead of Berttolaci, this is latest news. Managment should have sold Barttolaci when they had the chance and got that 10mil in stead of listening to Gatuzo who obviosly has terrible sense for… Read more »

That’s exactly what I read today too and it’s very disappointing. Montella screwed us over by asking for Kalinic and stopping Milan from signing Abameyang.

Now Gattuso is preventing the sale of Bertolacci and Calhanoglu. So now we can’t get the money we could have for them.

Really can’t wait for Milan to bring in a better coach. Smh

We won because of pure luck and brilliant saves from Donnarumma. Conti and Cutrone did well to provide the assist for Borini and Suso.

So this win had nothing to do with Gattuso’s coaching. Prandelli and Genoa were unfortunate to lose because quite frankly they had a better game plan and tactically got the better of Milan.

Anyone with any football sense could see that we weren’t better than Genoa in terms of game plan and tactics.

Milan won because of luck and moments brilliance from Donnarumma, Conti and Cutrone. We didn’t win today because we outplayed Genoa.

In fact, tactically Prandelli and Genoa were better. They were just unfortunate and they weren’t able to take their chances.

So I don’t how anyone with any football sense can credit Gattuso for this win. Had we played a better team or had Genoa played with Piatek it would definitely be a different result.

Milan won today because of pure luck and brilliance from Donnarumma who kept us in the game. We were outplayed by Genoa and Prandelli was far better tactically than Gattuso.

Had it not been for the hard work of Cutrone & Conti to provide the assist for Borini and Suso we would not have won.

So I don’t how anyone with any football brain can credit Gattuso for this win. Genoa were unfortunate and if they had piatek on the pitch it probably would have been a different result.

Anyone with any football sense and brain could see that Genoa were better tactically and they unfortunate to lose because of Donnarumma’s brilliance in goal. Tactically we were outplayed by Genoa who were a bit unlucky. So there’s no way anyone can credit Gattuso for this win as tactically were quite horrible to say the least. First off let me thank Leonardo for bringing paqueta. This kid has brought something to Milan that I haven’t seen in a very long time. If he continues he’s going to be a star. Donnarumma was fantastic today and is finally playing like the way he should. First half was horrible second half was better. Once we start bringing in more first team players from injury we will hopefully start being a force.

It’s like when one Milanista121 leaves, another Milanista appears. Yes. And we deserved the win as well. I liked how the team reacted in the second half after a miserable first half compared to the showings vs Frosinone and Bologna for example.
A win isn’t a win according to people unless ut’s against the likes of Juve, Napoli and Inter., and they’ll keep coming up with excuses to why Rino should go instead of being happy for a win.

Haha, betis r #7 and better than us. Valencia 9 Bilbao 14 Villarreal 19 would fight for CL spots in Serie A. Take Juve away from Serie a we would be on par with ligue-1

We need a real LW asap.. A fast and cynical finisher who can be a constant threat on the left with his speed. To keep our opponents busy. That would make Suso, Paqueta, Calhanoglu and of course Piatek and Cutrone way more dangerous. Bakayko is a monster in DM by the way.

I’m sorry, i agree with everything you say except what you say about bakayoko because I’m still veyy uncomfortable watching him when he is on the ball. Touhhes are still bad and he dosnt contribute effectively towards the attack. He does however retrieve the ball very good but other skills like passing touch and vision are lacking in his game.

I would opt for milan to not sign him permanently and send him back to chelsea after the contract ends.

I’ve been one of Gattuso’s biggest critics on this blog and rightfully so. His tactics, gameplay and game management skills needs improvement. I will give Gattuso credit for improving the team’s mental strength since under Montella, Milan would literally collapse under pressure especially when we concede a goal. Under Gattuso, Milan has the mental strength to fight back and pull out a draw or sometimes a win which never happened under his predecessors. However, anyone with any football brain knows that we were outplayed tactically by Genoa. It was if Prandelli was schooling Gattuso on tactics. We won the game… Read more »

When other keepers play the game of their lives – like Empoli’s keeper – we’re poor. But when our keepers do what they’re supposed to do to keep us in the game, we’re lucky to win… this is what annoys me 🙂

nick
Guest

That is not true sir. I’ve always praised Donnarumma when he plays well but he is the highest paid goalkeeper in Serie A and nowhere near the consistency level of Gigi Buffon.

I expect the performance from Donnarumma every single game especially in big games like the Coppa Italia.

Let’s be honest here, we didn’t win against Genoa because we outplayed them or because of our game plan. We won because we were more fortunate than them with taking our chances.

Had it not been for the brilliance of Donnarumma and Conti this result would have been different.

Hezs

Yeah he won because of luck.see how u expose yourself as a critic. Is not that gatuso is the perfect coach but he brings something to this team that even Conte cannot bring that’s stability no complain from any of the players unlike Conte who chased his best striker away because of his ego

Tactically Milan was outplayed by Genoa and for the majority of the game we looked clueless and out of ideas. Big thanks to Donnarumma for keeping us in the game with some amazing saves. The EPL is a different league than Serie A. It is played more pace compared to any other league. To imply that Bakayoko didn’t do well under Conte is an unfair assessment especially given the quality players Conte have at his disposal at Chelsea.

Bakayoko is doing well in Serie A simply because this league like League 1 gives him more time to play the ball as he is not good with the ball at his feet. In fact he’s a bit clumsy when under pressure.

There were reports about Bergwijn being connected to Milan last week while this week I read about bidding war between Inter and United for him

Meanwhile, Tonali again expressed his desire to work with his childhood hero Gattuso in near future. Hope our people listen to this

Inter are ahead of us in signing Bergwijn, they already started talks with him or PSV. Thats what I read, on the other hand I dont know if Leonardo is working behind the scene. But for what I’ve seen he would offer us quality no doubt. He’s fast, strong and has good technique. He can play as LW or RW. If I must compare his style with someone, I would say a douglas costa type of player. Is he worth 30mil?? Yes but not in our current situation. We will probably not get him.

Our current transfer market record is -72 million. Add piatek, kessie and baka and thats about -161. Subtract gomez, locatelli clauses and thats about -145. If we make CL, I would sell, Antonio Donnarumma, Musacchio (15), simic (5), strinic (5), kessie (50-60) laxalt (15), halilovic (4-5), and borini (7). Expiring contracts include Abate, Monto, Berto so some freed up space for the wage bill. Id only renew Zapata for 1 year with option for 2 at reduced wages and mauri. If Hakan leaves Milan reportedly has Bergwijn lined up. Hakan is far from his best but my concern is that Hakan is able to step in as mezzala if necessary while Bergwijn is pure winger/attacker. And right now Milan has limited options in midfield with Biglia and Jack still missing

I don’t want Hakan to leave as he has so much to offer. He is just not in form of late. However there are some players that are not supposed to be in the squad as the team doesn’t have credible options. This likes of Montolivo and Bertolacci. Simic is linked with Frosinine and Hallilovic & laxalt are linked to Bologna. Strinic has been silent…. maybe due to his heart condition. Borini has the coaches favour.
Some players need to leave for others to come in. I believe LeoDini are preparing for these movements.

Now I’m hearing Hallilovic is heading for Besiktas.

In all, a lot of players need to leave for better options to arrive

We need the cash the sale of Calhanoglu would bring us. True! But we have at least 19 games left this season if im right. And we only have Bakayoko Paqueta and Kessie in our three man midfield if Hakan leaves. Biglia will be back at some point. So I would be less worried seeing Hakan available on the bench ready to come on, in case Kessie or Paqueta are out with a booking or subbed late in a game than seeing Bertolacci Montolivio Mauri warming up. To play laxalt or castillejo in a three man midfield is just not… Read more »

To think this new management just spent 70 millions on two talented lads in January. This is big. Imagine if Milan didn’t have such UEFA restrictions

All in all I am just glad Milan now has structured management with big names from world of sports business such as Gazidis, our beloved greats such as Maldini and Gattuso and owners with transparent finances behind, Elliott

Forza Milan!

Only thing that bothers me about Gazidis is that according to reports he has the final say in signings. Why exactly? I get he’s here for the financial aspect, but he should focus on Milan as a brand etc, not our signings, that’s why we have LeoDini. He shouldn’t meddle with that. Also rumours of there being tension between him and LeoDini, and if anything happens so either one of them will leave, I’ll seriously dislike Gazidis. Also bothers me that he wants us to “buy youth with a re-sale value”, wtf is that? Nah, we should buy players and… Read more »

Crazy thing is I just read that too about gazidis and I was thinking exactly what you said. I mean for him he brings out statements like that like it’s a good thing but I was reading it thinking about how much restrictions he is imposing on both leanardo and Maldini. Let’s be honest here, the job gazidis was braught into do, he is great at it and he knows how to do it well but I do not want him turning milan into arsenal. I wasn’t happy at all with what I read in fact I was worried with… Read more »

That is why, my friend, he has a final say in buying players. He only wants youth with a re-sale value to generate income and boost FFP status. Expect Milan to start selling their talents if they turn out as they should – Cutrone, Paqueta, Piatek etc

While this is his business model, in the same time I believe Milan will be acquiring suitable replacements. You don’t want to decrease the value of your brand. That is what B&G were doing – selling our stars and replace them with below average garbage, non marketable players

Don’t need SMS anymore. We already have Paqueta

Ted

Yes we do. Since our strikers don’t get proper feeding from our wingers, we desperately need another Paqueta on the right side of midfield, someone who can push forward and create, while also track back and win the ball.

That way Milan can transit from 433 to 4231 when attacking since Paqueta knows how to cut inside while the other two can stay behind and guard. Same goes for SMS

Paqueta – Baka – SMS would be deadly

Milanista121 tried to reply you 3 times further up both yesterday and today but none was posted but yeah i agree on your assesments and is also looking forward in anticipation of what the team can do with these new additions. Paqueta looks very promising and signing piatek is a scoop as well. Glad to see higuain gone not as much as he didnt score enough which certainly didnt justify his loan fee or wages but just as much his onfield behaviour which cant have been good for the team morale. If we also can bring in a left winger… Read more »

I’ve been one of Gattuso’s biggest critics on this blog and rightfully so. I do give him credit for improving the team’s mental strength since under Montella the team would crumble after going a goal behind. With Gattuso, the team is fighting to the final whistle to get a point or even win the game. However, anyone with any football sense would know that Gattuso is still lacking tactically. His game plan and game management skills are very poor to say the least. We won against Genoa because of some strange turn of events starting with Zapata’s injury which lead… Read more »

You can say whatever you want, but it’s annoying to read only complaining from you as we don’t play like “Milan”, we are not the same that a decade ago. So when fans like me get excited because we got some 3 points and you say it was luck it’s like a middle finger to Milan, and you seem like a troll.

After turning last season around I’m pretty sure that if I look at your comments you would complain that Gattuso doesn’t know how to coach because 200M squad and Arsenal bla bla bla.

My dear friend, this is a blog where everyone is free to express their opinions. Get over it, ok? You’re getting too emotional. Milan last few coaches in recent times have been really poor.

Even the Italian deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini criticize Gattuso over his tactics and game management skills and he is also a Milan fan. Big deal!

Like I said, you can say whatever you want, and our former players and coaches praises gattuso so i’s a mixed opinion, but when it comes to judge Milan you never have a positive thing to say that’s what I’m talking about. That’s my opinion, and I’m not getting emotional over it, I’m just wondering how anyone can be a fan like that attitude. But I’m guessing that’s that football brains of yours and I have nothing of it

I recall many times where I acknowledge Gattuso for his impact on the team’s mental strength and also for playing Zapata ahead of Musacchio since Zapata’s form this season is better. There has been countless times that I’ve acknowledged Gattuso for making the right choice to make Romagnoli our captain instead of Biglia, Bonaventura or Suso. My issue is with his tactical awareness and game management skills. We bought Higuain who is a top class striker yet he was struggling to score goals? That’s a formation and tactical issue which is the responsibility of the coach to fix. Even Capello… Read more »

nick Aug 1, 2018 at 10:52 pm Mirabelli is a donkey and his project failed miserably at Milan. As a project manager by profession, I can surely tell you that Milan Chinese project was a bust. Total failure. We even got kicked out of the Europa League. Mirabelli wasted 104m out of the 200m budget in 1 season. 24m for Kalinic, 38m for André Silva and 42m for Bonucci who after 1 seasoned turned his back on Milan. That’s 62m wasted on two strikers that can’t score more 5goals in Serie A. Smh Mirabelli couldn’t even get Aubameyang, Morata or… Read more »

Our defense is better without Bonucci who consistently bypasses the midfield in favor of playing long balls to the CF. That made Milan vulnerable to counterattacks which is how we conceded most of our goals with Bonnuci in our defense. Sigh! When Caldara was fit and played with Romagnoli, we conceded zero goals and we were solid at the back even though it was against teams in the Europa league. Our decision to get Caldara was pure brilliance as Bonnuci is in decline. As for Kalinic-Higuain comparison, Higuain outperformed Kalinic in as he scored more goals 8 in 15 games… Read more »

@Milanista121. There is a golden rule in management, you criticize in private and praise in public.

Gattuso statement about Bakayoko not knowing how to position his body to receive the ball is a negative and an uncalled for comment.

The only reason Bakayoko is even playing is because Gattuso doesn’t have any other options at the moment. If that wasn’t the case he would be on his back to Chelsea already this month.

I credit Bakayoko for turning things around not the coach who unfairly criticized him in public.

It is not that he plays because Gattuso has no other option besides him. His statistics is loud enough and he won back to back MVP award and that says something. He is rock solid with the ball at his feet, doesn’t go down easily and wins back many of them. He is not a Pirlo type of creative regista but more like a mixture between Van Bommel and Yaya Toure

Exactly @Ted, 100 %. Nick is saying it like as soon as Biglia & co are back that Baka will be benched. That’s so far from reality. Baka has been so good that we’re considering selling Kessié in the summer according to rumours – something that was unthinkable even in mid-Octobre.

Guys, I wasn’t implying that Bakayoko would be dropped as soon as Biglia is fit to play. Why would Gattuso do that given Bakayoko’s current form?

I’m simply saying that if Biglia wasn’t injuried Bakayoko wouldn’t have had as much chance to play to prove himself since he was not given a vote of confidence from the coach in his first few games where he was heavily criticized especially during the Napoli game where his poor clearance caused a Napoli goal.

A piece of advise to prophets of apocalypse, do some research before talking , I’ve got pretty crazy ideas, and I admit it, as I know nothing more than my eyes can see, I don’t have an insider at san siro, and I’ve never coached a team. What I have is stats and common sense. Higuain was pushed out of Juve because with Dybala, Mandzukic and Ronaldo Juve are set with goal scorers, also, stats indicate that Higuain is on decline, and his wage was certainly a problem 7.5 Millions, (9.5 at Milan). Some said that by getting rid of… Read more »
