Ricardo Rodríguez’s agent has explained his client needed time to adapt to the new league and is this season now starting to show his true quality.
Milan signed two left back in the summer (although Ivan Strinić can’t play until further notice), but Ricardo Rodríguez has cemented his place as the starting fullback of Rino Gattuso.
The Swiss international, who is currently on international duty, has so far been in great form, especially defensively but also offensively as he already has 2 assists in this campaign: against Roma and Olympiacos.
“He is making high-level performances [now] because it is needed to adapt a bit to the Italian league,” agent Gianluca Di Domenico told il Corriere dello Sport. “Serie A is very difficult and almost all those who come from abroad initially have problems like André Silva. Ricardo has taken the time to assimilate the automatisms of the team, and now Milan also know how to make the most of him.
“Gattuso has always given him confidence? Ricardo has great professional respect towards Gattuso. The coach is always available and I think that he’s a unique person in football. He loves his guys and he would do anything for them. The players perceive it, it’s a rare thing and everyone appreciates it.
“The competition with Laxalt? A club like Milan must have a big squad. Being able to rest can help him as last year he played all the matches. Rodríguez was signed by Milan because he was one of the best footballs in Europe and he was established in the Bundesliga.
“I’m sure he’ll prove to be one of the strongest fullbacks in Serie A. For his disciplined way of playing in the defensive phase, Ricardo is much appreciated by the coach and his teammates. He always manages to find a solution in the passing and even when he’s under pressure he’s not wrong a lot.
“Now he will be even more complete because he has more chances to participate in the offensive phase and it creates the right opportunity for the cross, as happened with Patrick Cutrone in the Europa League against Olympiacos. A future in Rossonero? He is very happy here. Renewal? The important thing is to have a great season and then in the future we’ll see.”
