Ignazio Abate thinks ‘it was a fundamental game’ against Sassuolo and claims ‘the league is competitive and it will be difficult for everyone’.

Milan beat Sassuolo 4-1 to win in Serie A for the first time since August 31st but it could’ve ended a lot differently if it wasn’t for Abate’s brilliant tackle inside the box which prevented Federico Di Francesco from scoring and giving Sassuolo the lead.

Franck Kessié, Suso (brace) and Samu Castillejo found the net for Milan, who unfortunately once again could not keep a clean sheet as Filip Đuričić scored in the 69′ minute.

“We gave an important signal to ourselves, it was a fundamental game,” Abate said in the mixed zone after the game. “As a group we’ve always believed in our work, we were on the right track also before Sunday because the performances were always there. We met a team that plays great football but we put in something more that makes the difference between a draw and a win.

“We must always have a performance of a high mental level to bring home results. This year the league is competitive and it will be difficult for everyone. We failed to put the games to bed recently but we have always believed in ourselves. We always train at high intensity at Milanello.

“Let’s hope to take home as many points as possible from now on.” The next game of Milan is on Thursday night as they take on Olympiacos at Stadio San Siro (18:55 CEST kickoff).

Well done great man and player!! U improve with age… I believe u should play more minutes from now on…

It’s funny how everyone praise Abate now, considering he is one of the most scrutinized players.
I know for a fact that I’ve always had his back so I’m not surprised tbh. One who is a winner – scudetto – learned from the great Alessandro Nesta, and is a leader. Our defence needs his characteristics with Bonucci gone tbh.

Abate played well last night, he really did but that doesnt mean he plays well on regular basis, otherwise he would be undisputed right back of milan ahead of avg calabria and injured conti

Not my point mate, people here on this blog have made him into the worst right back there is, while that clearly isn’t the case, which he showed last night 🙂 His performance wasn’t a rarity.

I agree. Abate has always given 100% without a lazy moment in nearly 10 years. He’s also one of the only guys left from the scudetto winning team along with the coach.

Milan values fans more than its players

I always like abate he is a good player he has good speed and energy to track back he has been one of our important players besides I am thankful that gatuso has identified our problem in the defence the entire protective shield of the team defend too deep allowing the opponent to shoot from outside of the box we need to press our opponent with in their half see this suasuolo match it was difficult for them because of the way we press we did not allow them to build up play in the second half.

That was solid, competent performance by abate; some nice positioning and goal-preventing interceptions and anticipations. If it wasnt for him (and donna the sinner) sassuolo wouldve lead by at least 3 goals in first half alone. Abate even did some nice overlapping, too bad suso often held the ball for too long. If he can play like this week in week out then he should definitely start ahead of calabria. Who am i kidding, no way abate is gonna be consistent performer, not at this stage of his career at least. Ive seen too much milan to put blind faith… Read more »

Yeah!! Let’s burn Montolivo and Zapata soon, soon it will be Calabria as some did with De sciglio. Milan is like a family but fans love to bash the new era of Milan players. Borini? I remember his first match at Milan, I thought this guy is not a football player, but is an great athlete, let’s see montolivo and biglia, if they run like borini they would be fucking awesome!. 3 bad games of Calhanoglu and over here people are one game away to start calling him free kick boy again. To say Abate is crap and always has… Read more »
