Luca Antonelli has terminated his contract with the Rossoneri by mutual consent and has joined Empoli.

Milan are thinning out the squad, and today it became official that 31-year-old left back Luca Antonelli has joined Empoli.

The move was confirmed by the Lega Serie A website this morning, meaning that the contract of Luca with Empoli has been deposited. The Tuscan club then announced on Twitter that “Empoli FC is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Milan for the permanent purchase of Luca Antonelli’s sporting rights. The player signed a contract until June 30, 2021. Welcome Luca!”

“I just terminated my contract with Milan and I wanted to thank [former CEO] Galliani and [former director of sport] Rocco Maiorino for giving me the opportunity to wear the jersey I always dreamed of and always supported since childhood,” Antonelli wrote on his Instagram profile on Saturday. “Thank you to all the Coaches I’ve worked with over the years, because they helped me grow as a man and a player. Thank you to all the doctors, physiotherapists and lads at Milanello.

“A special thanks for all those Rossoneri fans and teammates over the last few years, people who will remain unforgettable to me. I wish the best of luck to Leonardo and Paolo Maldini, as I am convinced they can bring Milan back to the top of the world. FORZA LOTTA VINCERAI NON TI LASCEREMO MAI.

“With love and esteem, LA @acmilan.” The contract of Antonelli, who hopes to play consistently again, was due to expire next season, so Milan, it seems, have agreed to let him go at no cost.

good lucky Luca

Maldini and leo, cleaning up the room. Goodluck Luca.

What a lovely message. Always liked Luca, injuries ruined him last season, but he was fantastic during Miha’s season and would honestly love him as back-up to RicRod, hope Strinic is up for the task, as I know Luca was.
Good luck in your new adventure!

Great player.
Thanks for all Luca and good luck!!

A very nice good bye statement from Antonelli. He shows how much he loved us but Milan in its transition stages that cannot accommodate him any longer. Wish u good luck in your new adventures.

Great man, great player, great professional and an example for young players.

All the best Anto.

Would have had no problem retaining him as Europa League cover, but presume he saw his oppertunites limited here. Hope he does well at Empoli, apart from against Milan.

Comment:great guy, rossoneri to the core, grew from our academy, became captain @ Genoa, sacrificed his captaincy to join us back & his father too once played for Milan. I wish you goodluck, a great gentleman, highly proffessional
