Ignazio Abate was happy with his goal and claimed Milan will have to ‘give a battle like in Doha’ on Wednesday.
Last night Abate found the net for the first time since 2015 and for the first time ever at Stadio San Siro as he took advantage of a Suso pass to score against Hellas.
“Scoring at San Siro and under the Curva is just an incredible feeling,” Abate, whose three career Milan goals all came against relegated teams, told MilanTV.
“You all know very well that against the small sides we struggle but on Saturday we played like a mature team, we gave a solid performance, and this can only make us reflect about all the matches like these ones that we could have won this season and didn’t.
“It’s nice to be appreciated by my teammates because I’m always sincere with them and I’m ready to help them or reproach them when needed. It is a group with solid principles, and we have a great leader who is the coach. Our pride was touched after Benevento and we responded.
“Now we will go to Rome with many fans and we want to win. How will our youngsters arrive in the final? They will arrive loaded but we mustn’t exaggerate, they have already played important matches, they have the Rossoneri’s heart and they will be ready for the match.
“Juventus? We will find the usual Juve, which steps on the field to win. We must think of ourselves and give a battle like in Doha. We also had a great game at the Juventus Stadium [Milan held on for 70 minutes but ultimately lost 3-1], but the finals are matches of their own.”
With reports of Abate perhaps leaving Milan at the end of the season in favor of a reunion with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at LA Galaxy, the Coppa Italia could potentially be a beautiful goodbye present.
