André Silva was very happy after scoring a 94′-minute winner for Milan against Genoa – as it was his first Serie A goal.

When Milan signed André Silva from Porto in the summer for €40 million, many were expecting him to set the league on fire.

But the reality was different, and the 22-year-old had to wait until last night before he could get his first-ever Serie A goal.

And it couldn’t arrive in a better moment, as he scored a late winner for Milan in the 94′ minute against Genoa with a strong header, after Suso’s cross found him.

“If I don’t play a lot, then it’s because I have to work harder,” Silva told MilanTV at the end of the match. “A liberating goal? Of course, I hadn’t scored in the league yet. Now I’m happy and I would like to thank everyone, the staff and my teammates. Scoring means everything to me.

“Suso’s assist? It wasn’t so good of a nice [laughs]. The match against Arsenal? We go there with all of our confidence and we want to win, we will give everything. We need to improve to qualify.”

It remains to be seen whether Gattuso will be willing to bet on André Silva, who has 6 goals to his name in the Europa League this season, when Milan face Arsenal on Thursday night at the Emirates Stadium. Soccer betting sites give the edge to the Gunners after their 2-0 win at Stadio San Siro.

“It’s different scoring in the last minutes, I’m very happy and so is the team,” André told Sky Italia after the final whistle of referee Michael Fabbri. “Gattuso told me that I did a good job and that there is trust in me. His words in the press conference? I have to listen to the coaches and do my job.

“The missing goal? I had to score and I’m glad that I did it on Sunday. I’m happy for the first goal in Serie A but the most important thing is the work. The return leg with Arsenal [21:05 CET kickoff]? We will go there with the desire to win and then we’ll see what happens.”

Speaking in the mixed-zone, the striker said: “Since I arrived at Milan, from the first match in Serie A, I had been waiting for the goal because a striker has to score. I think that the work should be in the foreground, I’ve always worked and then the time to score arrives. Sunday was this time.

“I first saw Italian football in Portugal, I’ve already seen a lot here and I think I’m ready. Arsenal? We’ll have to do a lot because they are a very difficult team. Slaps from Gattuso? He doesn’t give me as many slaps as others. Cutrone? I’m happy to play in this team with Kalinić, Cutrone and others.”

Talking abt arsenal,I don’t just see us beating them ,I don’t even think this tired and slow Milan side can beat Watford the premier league teams r too fast for us and we r too sluggish and heavy ,easily tired no flair no zeal no fun in we playing soccer too many mistakes sorry guys let truth be told we r out of EL

Am I the only one who finds your comments and attitude annoying since the first time I read your comments a few weeks back?
And you say ‘soccer’ – which is even more annoying.

Milan will beat arsenal 3-1 extra time.

Milanista121

Hope you’re right mate!! Have a better feeling for this game than I did for the first leg, probably because the pressure is on Arsenal now and we have nothing to lose, but eveerything to win!

So happy for you André, what a way to score your first Serie A goal, should be a massive boost in confidence, hope you keep it up. Would be nice to see both Cutro and Silva on the pitch against Arsenal.

Comment:A 3-1 scoreline qualifies Ac Milan but only 2-0 scoreline on our side at the Emirates prolongs the match into extra time!

Joerinho

Milan is going to make us proud in the emirate’s stadium….

I think we must take Bacca back n let go Kalinic, for Arsenal’s game i think everything can happen in football. It could happen Arsenal will have a bad day n we capitalize on it n win the match 4-0… Forza Milan

Thanks for the goal! And as of Arsenal, win or loss, it’s a bonus as we gain either another round in EL or go all out for that 4th place. What would you guys choose?

Hmmmm! The sweet scent of CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!

Goooo Milan!

larryoil

We are winning!!!

To be more active against arsenal I wud like the coach to play two strikers upfront no matter the formation be it4-3-1-2, or 4-4-2,or 4-1-3-2 which ever that is preferable but I think cutrone and silver will frustrate arsenal defence if they play together

Coach Seedorf

@Ruskin, why are always scared? If Milan is to play Eyimba of Aba, you would still be scared that we could lose, you get me thinki ng sometimes. Where are all the Montella haters? Montella can’t coach even if his life depended on it, a cook is better than Montella etc He just bested Mourinho’s Man U home & away. They were unlucky to draw at home and now eliminated Man u at Old Trafford . This Man U is not having a bad spell or struggling for form. Montella has always been a good coach and he still is,… Read more »

No English team won at home in Ucl including man city so Milan is going to defeat Arsenal tomorrow whether we will qualify is another story but I know this team can do it if they want it. Forza Milan
