Vincenzo Montella has decided to release his athletic trainer with whom he’s been working for years as ‘physical preparation is among the areas where improvements can be made’.

Montella has been under pressure since Sunday when his team lost 2-0 to Samp.

Fassone stated that Milan can never look like that again and there have been conversations between the CEO, Mirabelli and Montella behind closed doors.

Today, Montella announced through his official Twitter account that he has decided to make changes in his staff, letting go of his athletic trainer, with whom he’s worked since his days coaching Fiorentina.

“After careful consideration, I’ve made my decisions and I consider physical preparation to be among the areas where improvements can be made,” Montella wrote. “I have decided to start a new physical preparation plan, for which I haven’t found full agreement with my assistant, the athletic trainer Emanuele Marra. It is with heavy heart that together with Emanuele we have decided to part ways.

“I take this opportunity to thank him for the work done together over these years.” Milannews.it reports that the decision was taken solely by Montella and the club did not interfere at all with his decision. The 43-year-old will also of course be the one to name a replacement for Marra.

At the moment, it is widely believed that Milan are not considering to fire Montella as it’s still very early in the season. This can change in the next weeks, however, as Milan have a difficult run ahead.

Very intelligent coach. thats our only problem.we should be avle to train 4 hours non stop physicals to open muscles so we can play without being tired. We get tired too early

Lol, what Montella needs to do is hire a real tactician and fire himself.

We’ll see if this makes a difference. Maybe Samps’s high pressing game made Montella realize something.

Montella has no business been Milan coach. He may be good for Cacliari, sassuolo, SPAL not in anyway near Milan requirement.
He lacks the techniques and skill to guide Milan. He should be allowed to leave now

Look at the intensity with which teams play and press.
Our team is like a girl’s team playing against trained athletes.

Bring in gattuso.

You’ve got to be joking, Gattuso?!?!??
Hate to say it but our best chance is to stick with Montella till the end of the season. I don’t see any candidates that’s available that can take the mantle and improve us right away.

I think this just shows that Vincenzo has a lot of problems too big for him.
I don’t understand how it is possible to change the athletic coach in September when the main preparation is in july/august and december. This change won’t have influence for the next three months.
We just need another team coach.

If Montella didn’t change the starting 11 and formation so much then I would truly believe that this is a fitness issue or a lack of effort and motivation from the players. As I see it, this is more a coaching issue. It is the coaches duty and responsibility to instill a winning mentality and that is further accomplished with consistency and results. Montella have not consistently use a core starting 11. For the money we spent on Mussachio, Silva and Calhanoglu they should be on the pitch every game. It is bizarre that Borini gets more playing time than… Read more »

When you go to sampdoria to defend, with fear and loser mentality, when kessie is awful and you are not able to change him, when you are not able to react when the team is playing bad, this is only your fault, this is not the business of fitness coach. Montella was stupid and he will pay for this

Mr Montella. Your tactics is not good enough. Don’t shift blames. Dont leave cancer and be curing headache.

This thing makes sense after all. Players look tired and they don’t make pressing up there to opponent’s field.

But I don’t think a main problem is physics right now. It’s really difficult to analyze things. Maybe Montela can cope with this.

I want to see free flowing football with no fear. The way we approach games in europa is way different to serie a. I fear we give too much respect to opponents in serie a. When was the last time we’ve played someone and play attacking and score five goals? We score three then try to keep possession and close out a game. Whereas in Europe we attack non stop. Don’t show fear to any team on the pitch! Hell if we show passion and a real showing and lose to a lower team at least I can say they… Read more »

yup, after a year and a half he realized the problem is in training, because as you can see we play wonderful football every game, midfielders with high skills and dribbling, wide vision as you can see the only one who pass to wingers is our bonucci midfielder who play long balls left and right, because the rest in midfield are handicap or blind with no vision. oh yes we bought hakan bcz we need him to score free kicks as he is a specialist in kicks only. when he asked the managment to buy him players and i am… Read more »

He has a point becos d rate of injuries is too rampant, something must be wrong. ..but he also needs a team psychologist… Did team doesn’t seem to have d never say die attitude… I also think we need tassoti back at Milan or at least a Milan great as assistant coach.. .i know abbiati is d team manager but is he transmitting d Milan DNA becos it’s not showing at all. And for montella, revert to 433/4312/4321 it’s safer bet n days d truth

this move doesnt change much its your tactics and body language thats affecting the team. someone wrote an article either today or yesterday compairing montella as a driver driving a city car where as Milan is a F1 car we need something else, i understand trying to stay consistent with the coach especially since there wasnt anyone better on the market. But from the time Montella wanted Kalinic instead of forcing Milan to get Aubameyang then i knew he really was trying to make Milan a Fiorentina and to be honest we shouldnt have lost so badly to Lazio nor… Read more »

The main problem isn’t only coach. Fassone the ex juventino director wasting Inter money on overrated talent before. Now, he did the same with us.

I think Montella is onto something. A keen look at the playing staff/club changes and you will sense it. We signed Bonucci, a 5-Scudetti winner. We signed Abbiati as Club Manager, the only one person at Milanello presently who played with the 2000’s champions. They must have sat down and analysed/compared the current Milan training regime and/or match preparations vs those at Juve or Ancelloti’s Milan together. They must have concluded that the physical training regime leaves a lot to be desired. Physical fitness to an athlete is like performance fuel. If you do not feel physically fit and/or your… Read more »

It’s because of the injuries occurring in training than in matches, that’s why he sacked the fitness trainer.

BTW I’m not saying that the team will make a quick u-turn and start winning games but rather will have fewer injuries occurring in training.

With the kind of investment made over the summer, I’m not sure the owners have a long term plan to keep montella. I think they didn’t let him go because indeed, he did use a mediocre team (on paper) to qualify for the UEL and it would have been unwise to rock the boat. However, Montella hasn’t shown the grit to make tactical decisions when it matters or react to desperate situations with the guile required as well as building a winning team, things top coaches like Mourhino, Pep and Conte seem to understand. Heck, even Allegri was known to… Read more »

Zapata, Bonucci, Romangoli, Abate, Kessie, Biglia, Rodriguez, playing 7 defenders against Sampdoria, even Donnarumma as libero, he is just feeling the pressure, his tactics are useless, soon the players will be losing faith on him. Also are we playing 343 or 523?, we don’t need wing-backs, what is he so scared about? we need wide midfielder who play box to box on the wing delivering crosses and helping the defense, Bonaventura did that job when Miha was around, and if Honda could then Suso might as well. This is a balls and tactics issue Montella get ur sh!t together. If… Read more »

For me it was glaring, montella has a poor reaction, to me this is just shifting blame. U don’t need a uefa license to know that kassie was not in the game sub him. Suso was out of the game sub him.. you had to wait for 75min to mke a sub.. lazio’s game same thing happened. Well there must be a scapegoat.. he should put his house in other please..

Montella’s feeling the heat no doubt. I hope our management is calmer than him and our fans. Switching the coach that help design this team after 6 games is crazy. We’re already all-in on our gamble this season with finance; hiring another non-top-level coach just to sooth our anger won’t change anything.

The truth is we can reach CL with loosing to a Sampdoria once in a while; and another truth is that our squad (despite 200 mil investment) is not that much better.

A new fitness regime 6 weeks into the new season? Should have had that in place 6 weeks before the season.
Are you gonna just fit in pre-season training now during the season? This is a joke.

Physical preparation of his players is something the manager needs to lay down way before the season starts. New regimes will cost the team a lot over the next weeks/month until the players get used to it!
