Mario Pasalic has passed the medical (his back problems are behind him) and put pen to paper at Casa Milan on Saturday.
Pasalic becomes Milan’s 5th signing of the season and he arrives on a season-long loan deal. The Rossoneri do not have a buy-out clause included but will have right of first-refusal if Chelsea decide to sell the 21-year-old next summer.
For the loan, Milan will pay €200,000 to €1 million with the amount paid depending on how many games Pasalic plays this season. He arrived to Milano on Friday and passed the ‘extended medical‘ which in addition to regular tests also included a visit at the office of Dr. Fornari to make sure that the back problems from last season (herniated disc) are behind him.
Pasalic arrived to Casa Milan on Saturday, visited the museum and signed the contract. “From Croatia to Milan. A well-trodden path in our history… Welcome Mario Pasalic,” a statement on Milan’s website reads. “Together we will face our next season with even more quality and even more youth. Your contract with Milan is a year-long: it will be an intense and very important season, for you and us.”
acmilan.com wrote a short profile of the player: “Pašalić, born in Mainz, 9th February 1995, is a modern midfielder who can play in different roles. Croatian footballers have always been a guarantee, and Mario’s qualities are undeniable. He likes to be in the heart of the game, he likes to play the ball and that’s why he mostly plays as centre midfielder. Two-footed, he is a talented player that certainly knows how to pass the ball, all qualities that coach Montella and his staff will certainly appreciate.”
“How I feel? Great. I am very happy and proud to be part of this club, one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Pasalic told MilanTV. “If I’ve already spoken to someone? Not yet, as I just got here yesterday and now I have some time to adapt to this new reality. All these trophies I’ve speak of the club.
“Zvonimir Boban and Andriy Shevchenko? Boban is Croatian like I am, I know everything about his career with Milan. I also know Shevchenko who made the history of the club. because my brother is a Milanista and he’s big fan of his. My brother is happy and proud of me and I know this means a lot for him. Kakà? He is one of the best players in the world and I stopped in front of his memorabilia because I still remember when he used to play here for Milan.
“My characteristics as a player? I am the classic number 8 (central midfielder). That’s my position but I like to play in every role of the pitch, so there’re no problems and I’ll play wherever the manager wants me to. What to expect from this season? We know last season did not live up to the expectations; I want to play because this is a great opportunity for me.
“Croatian players in Serie A? I know a lot of players that play in the Italian league. My teammates in the Under 21 Croatia national team have told me Italian football has a lot of tactics, maybe more defensive than the other European leagues. It’ll help me improve in my career.
“Jersey number? I still haven’t chosen my shirt number; we will see what is available. The welcoming from the fans? I have seen plenty of messages on the social medias from the fans and I want to thank them and tell them that I will give everything I have for Milan. I hope it will be a great season.
“Forza Milan.” Pasalic will start training with the squad tomorrow in view of the match with Udinese after the international break. As Montella noted, Mario will need to adapt to a new role.
