Vincenzo Montella saw positives in Milan’s Trofeo TIM performances and also spoke about individual players.
Milan beat Celta Vigo in the first match of the Trofeo TIM on penalties but then lost to Sassuolo 3-2 in the 2nd game despite leading by two goals after 10 minutes.
The Rossoneri of Vincenzo Montella did fairly well against Celta and in the first 20 minutes of the Sassuolo match but in the last 25 minutes of the tournament they played very poor football and made countless mistakes with Jherson Vergara basically gifting the Neroverdi their third goal.
“The results always affect the judgment,” Montella said to the press at the Mapei Stadium after the game. “Our first game against Celta Vigo was of a very high level. We conceded very little and created several opportunities. Against the Spaniards things were difficult, because they didn’t allow very much and we played with an unusual system, which will prove useful over the championship.
“Versus Sassuolo we did extremely well in the first 20 minutes, though perhaps we were a bit too vain. Then we got tired and the quality was lowered a bit with the substitutions. Carlos Bacca? He is a great player, and I like his character too, you can feel his presence on the pitch.

“Luiz Adriano? He has grown a lot and he shows it too. Giacomo Bonaventura? is a player that can be employed in a variety of roles. We need to lay out a path for him. And he wasn’t even in top condition yesterday. M’Baye Niang (who scored twice vs. Sassuolo and was selected Player of the Tournament)? I believe in him. He still has to learn many things, he needs to know when to go for an individual play and when to play with the team. His path is still at the beginning; he can improve a lot.
“The transfer market (no new signing took part in pre-season)? I can only talk about the players I have. You can’t ask me to handle the market, the club already knows everything. We need a mix of players who have good character and others for the future. The club evaluates these things.”
The last match of pre-season is on Sunday as the Diavolo play Freiburg. And after that the real thing begins as Serie A kicks off for Milan on August 21st with a match against Mihajlovic and Torino.
“Giacomo Bonaventura? is a player that can be employed in a variety of roles. We need to lay out a path for him. And he wasn’t even in top condition yesterday.” – milan coach, vincenzo montella *wink
@Milan10
Since when you became a troll? I used to like your comments.
Now you just troll, or try to get as much like/dislike as possible.
I am see some positive changes in this team.
I dont really believe in Niang…..
Niang seems to have improved.Let’s give him a chance at least.
Maybe, but just a little bit, his problem is that he is heading Balotelli’s path…
thought the same after the last game
Bacca deserve to stay in milan atleast for two more seasons, please don’t sale him for any reason!
Defence is weak, midfield is terrible and probably the 10-13th on Serie A for wuality and running skills, attack only with Bacca that is great only in last 11 meters but he doesnt receive balls to score as we always loose the ball in the miedfield. It will be one of the worst season if we dont buy immediately 3 good players with Quality, running capacity and sense of goal too. I cannot even think to Montolivo Capitain again…told the “Tonto-livo” for his inner capacity to be ininlfluent …. And I am Milanist since 44 years…
I am seen a great ac Milan club ” we need 2 or3 midfielders. If not!
I love Milan, balasconi, the fans
Milan need a serious make over in midfield. I would get rid of everybody in the midfield except Kuco and Bonaventura.
They both suck
I hope everything get better ☹️
