President Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed the exits of the four with expiring contracts and stated more will leave.
Berlusconi gave an interesting interview about the future of Milan last night and he confirmed it’s the end of the Milan road for Mario Balotelli, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Alex da Costa and Philippe Mexes.
“There are Mexes, Alex, Boateng and others [who will leave]. Five will be leaving with expiring contracts,” Berlusconi told Telelombardia’s QSVS. “And then there are also other players that we’ll put on the market. Balotelli? He also ends the contract with us.”
Balotelli re-joined Milan on loan from Liverpool but did nothing this season to convince the Rossoneri to get back to the negotiations table wih the Reds and he will return to English to seek a different club. Boateng has a similar story as he joined on a free after a bad spell at Schalke and didn’t do enough. Alex looks determined to return to Brazil while Mexes was rarely used this season despite signing an extension last summer. The ‘fifth’ with the expiring deal is Christian Abbiati.
It’ll be an interesting summer for Milan if the sale of the club goes through. More news on that front are expected in the month of June as the negotiations between Silvio and the Chinese continues.
