With Luca Antonelli and Ignazio Abate injured, Davide Calabria will get his chance from the start while Philippe Mexes is preferred over Cristian Zapata and a not-100%-Alex da Costa.
Milan confirmed on Tuesday that Antonelli sustained a partial tear to his right calf muscle against Frosinone and he’s therefore out of the squad for the match on Saturday evening against Bologna. Abate also hasn’t trained in the past few days with a minor injury and he’s not available for selection. That means that coach Cristian Brocchi has to do without his two starting fullbacks against Roberto Donadoni’s side.
That’s why the 19-year-old Calabria will play from the start on one side of the defense with Mattia De Sciglio playing on the other. And with Alex da Costa not 100%, it’s suggested that Philippe Mexes will take his place alongside Alessio Romagnoli, leaving Cristian Zapata on the bench.
In midfield Jose Mauri, Juraj Kucka and Riccardo Montolivo will once again play from the get-go. Andrea Bertolacci is back in the squad but is expected to be left out of the starting XI. In attack, with Jeremy Menez out due to back problems, Carlos Bacca and Mario Balotelli will play with the Japanese Keisuke Honda behind them in a 4-3-1-2. Luiz Adriano will offer alternatives from the bench.
Probable XI (via Milannews.it): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Calabria, Mexes, Alessio Romagnoli, Mattia De Sciglio; Juraj Kucka, Riccardo Montolivo, Jose Mauri; Honda; Mario Balotelli, Carlos Bacca.
