Milan’s market: A win or a loss?

24

FAN ARTICLE by Bido Tair.

Milan have been known for their last minute signings over the years. However, this transfer window has ended and no great signing has been made. It only witnessed two signings Kaka and Alessandro Matri. Let’s be frank they are no big signings in terms of what is needed, by age perhaps.

With all due respect to Kaka, I believe his footballing days are over. He has spent way too much time on the bench and he is no longer the 2007 Kaka; he’s become the 31 year old Milan legend and is not a player.

Galliani: “We are very happy Kaka is back, the heart prevailed”
Kaka: “Milan can do well, I want to rediscover the joy of football”

Even though his arrival has brought joy to thousands of Milanista I think he isn’t the type of player we need now, an attacker, especially not an old one and my deepest fear is that he is going to be a flop like Andriy Shevchenko in the 2008-2009 season when he returned to Milan and failed to score a single league goal. While Alessandro Matri was our ‘great’ coach’s idea, I believe it was a complete waste of money. Instead of signing a much needed defender or midfielder, positions in which massive flaws have been witnessed last year and in this season’s first game against Verona, Milan opted to sign the 29-year-old for €11m while such money could have been spent on Eriksen for example, who moved for €13.5m, or Dedé.

Even though I have immense respect for both players, this is a tough love situation. Now don’t get me wrong they might be good signings and help us reach the top 3 spot but they are not what’s best. In these tough economic times Milan should be wiser with their money and spend it on what is really needed, which I can tell you is not an attacker. What do you think?

I think this market was a loss for us unfortunately. I’m a lifelong AC fan and i understand that the days of purchasing the worlds leading players (Nesta, Sheva, Rui Costa) is behind us and appreciate the boards efforts to focus on the recruitment and nurturing of young talent they proposed last season (SES, Niang, De Sciglio) but this transfer window was poor. Knowing that Galliani was considering shipping Zapata for a 32 yr old P Cannavaro is another example of losing faith in his ambition for the club I love. We needed a world class CB this transfer window… Read more »

he wanted to trade unneeded Zaccardo for Cannavaro, not Zapata… We just bought the other 50% of Zapata..

Milan has no true leader in d dressin room,No disregard 2 monty bt he’s no leader.dats a role kaka can fill, one who can boast of playin a huge part in milans last european conquest.imagin players like poli, ses, saponara…all been mentored by him.den talk abt d fans attendance.bliv Į̸̸̨ƭ or not bt kaka wil do more gud dan harm.nd as for reinforcements its not dat bad given dat if ε̲̣̣̣̥ signed a defender Į̸̸̨ƭ wud tak allegri anoda 3months 2 pik his CB pairin.nd besides from wat i hear our youth team has an interestin crop of players, so who says its… Read more »

We got Kaka for FREE alone is like winning a LOTTO. Matri will score goals i believe and Milan will win something this season.

It’s a win win market

I think it’s a both win and loss market. Matri is a great player, and Kaka is fantastic, no need to comment on him. Whenever Kaka played for Madrid, he did great, so I do not see how he is finished as a player? Now, with his confidence back along with his qualities, he will be back, like Tiziano Crudelli said, if Kaka still is only 50 % the player he was from his Milan days, he’ll still be great, which I think is very true. Poli is a great signing as well which give us depth in midifeld. However… Read more »

The market was a failure. Though the KAKA’ and Poli deals where OK, we wasted funds getting Matri and Silvestre. After signing Vergara there was no need to replace Bonera, with a squad player ,someone who could start was needed but after signing Silvestre there was no longer room for another defender. With the world cup only a year away I doubt Dede would have wanted such a change of environment, anyway we no longer have Leonardo so our influence in the Brazilian market is all but gone. There’s no excuse for signing Matri, and at that price. I almost… Read more »

I think that finally it was an absolutely loss!!! Ok i m very happy with the return of kaka like all milan fans and it is such an emotional moment to see ricky back. But galliani presented this transfer like the most dificult transfer of the last years even though we all know it was a FREE transfer.. I dont know where the money went again We signed matri for 12 millions!!!!! Come on juventus was laughing at this money and we spent that money that we took from schalke from boa. Where are the 30 millions from c.l qualification??… Read more »

I believe Milan have only made 2 mistakes this window, the first is signing Matri and helping Juve recover finances from their Tevez signing, the second is not signing Sakho or a dependable CB. Everyone seems to rank the Kaka move as a failure or as an unneeded move but we forget he came for FREE. Add Ticket and Jersey sales and we’ve already gained from this move. I don’t think he’ll play as well as we want him to but this is a good move nonetherless. I also think waiting till January for Honda was a good move, by… Read more »

I totally agree with this article. i think overall this market was a fail. however poli is a great player and could become something special. the Matri signing was most bizarre, after months of looking to buy young players on the cheap we go and spend what is alot of money for our club on a 29 year old. (who is fairly decent though) but with 11mil we could have purchased a much younger and more promising talent such as Eriksen. failing to land our major targets perhaps was the biggest disappointment. why milan always have to sign so many… Read more »

Milan have plenty of options in the squad and now have a deep enough attack to be able to rotate during the season and maintain enough firepower to secure a title push, while also ensuring progress into the knockout phase of the Champions League. Alessandro Matri and Giampaolo Pazzini are traditional centre-forwards who will offer great stability in a two-pronged attack. While Robinho will be able to push Stephan El Shaarawy for a place just off Balotelli, adding fierce competition in the striking department. With an array of options now at Allegri’s disposal, we can fully expect him to carry… Read more »

Half Kaka is better than full Boateng. As for Matri and Silvestre, They are a complete waist of money.

I agree to a certain extent. But Kaka will not have the same faith as Sheva. Two different scenario’s. Sheva wanted to leave…Kaka did not and was sold for financial purpose by the club. Kaka has more incentive to do well with the WC in Brazil under a coach Big Phil with whom he won the 2002 WC with. Kaka is also trying to regain the faith of the Brazil NT coach who will be watching his progress. The only downside to the transfer market is that we could have signed Eriksen, Ljajic & Benatia/Sakho who were all well within our… Read more »

Hmmm, to me its neither a win nor loss, more like a draw…Although I have to disagree with you about Kaka. I think he´ll definitely show he still has his old quality. Less speed and power maybe, but his passing and finishing havent gone, and you could see it even on the rare occasions when he got a chance for Real, scoring and creating some beautiful goals.

Kaka scored 2 goals and 1 assisst before leaving madrid, and everytime he was on the pitch for madrid he did something even against bayern munich….he his not the same kaka from 2007 but he isnt far from the kaka we once knew, he is a brilliant signing as he came free with performance insentive bonuses, ask your self this what did shevchenko do for chelsea before coming to milan on loan? nothing…thats the difference between kaka and Shev!! This market is much of a win as it is a loss because of Matri!!!

It’s bad we didn’t get a defender like Sahko as for Matri we got him for 2,7m expandable for 4 yrs which is a good deal and we got kaka for free which is not bad either
