ADRIANO GALLIANI is ecstatic to have Kaka back but does not forget the other Riccardo in the squad – Saponara.
Milan have lost many symbols in the last two years with legends like Rino Gattuso, Clarence Seedorf, Sandro Nesta, Pippo Inzaghi and Massimo Ambrosini leaving the club but this week they’ve brought back one of the ‘bandieras’ – Ricky Kaka.
The Rossoneri tried to sign Kaka a few times since he left for Real Madrid in 2009 as like Adriano Galliani said ‘some loves never end…’ and they finally succeeded in landing the 2007 Ballon d’Or winner and presented him to the press today.
“We are all very, very, very happy because Ricky Kaka is back home. He has played 270 games and scored 95 goals for Milan, he has won many trophies and the Golden Ball as well. He left in the summer of 2009, but had arrived as a World Champion in 2003. There were six wonderful years. He left and finally he has returned,” Galliani said in the press room.
“He has never really been away and we tried to sign him back for two or three years but the link with Kaka has been incredible. Feelings cannot be judged; Kaka was able to get into the heart of the Rossoneri fans. I have never received so many compliments as in recent days. Having brought home Kaka has given so much joy to many Milan fans and us so we are happy. President Berlusconi called me four times on Sunday which has never happened with another player.
“There is a different feeling with Kaka than with any other in the last 27 years. I don’t want to get too emotional so welcome home Ricky. We tried for Kaka in full agreement with our coach. Starting with Boateng we thought we had to return to the 4-3-1-2 and we thought that Kaka was the ideal player for the new module. He was a technical choice, we brought it to President Silvio Berlusconi after we got through the Champions League playoffs. Sometimes the difficult deals come true. We want to say to our fans that we tried to get the player who we think can give us a hand from the technical point of view.
“I remember when Carlo Ancelotti called me to ask me where we got Kaka from, to tell me he was a phenomenon. When we signed Kakà we already had an impressive attacking midfielder in Rui Costa. The negotiations? I must say that I thought I would not make it while Real Madrid have proven to be friends. I thank them. I also thank (Kaka’s father) Bosco Leite and Ricky because they have tangibly demonstrated their affection for Milan making a great financial sacrifice.
>“There was the will by all parties.. We tried to sign Kaka a year ago and two years ago. I went to Madrid without having a certain appointment with Real Madrid. I called them and I went to their offices and we came to a conclusion. I asked a lot of sacrifices from Bosco and in the end, the white smoke at 2:35 singled Ricky’s return to Milan. I despaired when I thought it wasn’t going through. But at the end of the day we sorted out the contract with Real and with the player,” Galliani added.
“The deal started when Boateng left. There were 2-3 days left and I think they are the most important. Basically Ricky replaces Boateng. Petagna has moved on and Matri has arrived, then Boateng left and Kaka arrived. He was our choice and luckily it went through. I feel the same excitement that the fans do for Kakà’s return. During these four years, both the President and I were part of the 15,000 Kaka orphans. I hope they come back slowly. In 2009 15,000 ticket-holders left.
“An agreement with Galaxy over Kaka? There will be no relay race with Keisuke Honda and Ricky is here to stay. There is nothing with Galaxy and there is a contract only with Milan until June 30th, 2015. Kaka’s exit in 2009? It is useless to return to the past. Kakà never wanted to leave Milan but we had to sell. While Sheva asked to leave, Ricky did not ask to.
“Milan had been the subject of strong pressure and Florentino Perez wanted him. In January there was a club (Manchester City) that had offered a figure higher than that for Bale. The past cannot be changed and it is useless to go there.
“Over the last five years there are only seven clubs that have always been in the group stages of the UCL. Milan is the team that has made the greatest number of points in Italy. Remember that Milan won the Scudetto three seasons ago, we came second in 2012 after being in the lead for a while. Last year we came third. We have been at the top in Europe and the first in Italy over the past five years.” Galliani said that as he was looked through the pages for states he prepared beforehand.
Galliani later spoke to Milan Channel and complimented another Ricky: “15,000 season-tickets in a day for the Champions league is absolutely fantastic and it seems that many of Kakà’s orphans are returning. There’s something inexplicable about the Kakà-fans relationship , I never got as many compliments as in the last few days. I can’t forget the day we signed Kaka in 2003, I was on Sardinia and I had to re-open the office to send a fax. I send him a present on his birthday too.
“I went into the dressing room and I said to Saponara, ‘We got you because you’re like Ricky and now I’ve him here for you in person.’ Saponara is back training. Now for the number 10, we have the two Riccardo’s, as Saponara is a great talent.”
