MATTIA DE SCIGLIO hopes to be a good Milan #2 and wants to have a good season in red & black.
The youngster will surely get a bigger role this season after Gianluca Zambrotta left Milan and a couple of fullbacks are on their way out of the club as he will be the direct alternative for Italy man Ignazio Abate.
De Sciglio has a lot of time to impress Coach Massimiliano Allegri in training and the Rossoneri began preparations for the 2012/2013 season and the 19-year-old hopes to do well in the upcoming campaign.
“Yes, I chose this number, the number 2. I knew that it was a very important number for Milan because in the past some great fullbacks have won it like Tassotti and Cafu and so I hope I can live up to those standards and have a good season,” the man who grew up in Milan’s youth academy told Milan Channel.
“The club asked me whether I want to keep the number 52 or I wanted to change and take the number 2 and I just said that I wanted to have the number 2 and coach Tassotti told me that it’s only a temporary thing… no, he was joking and I hope that it’ll be my number this season. We’re all relaxed at the moment,” De Sciglio added. “We are working well and hard. I feel very comfortable with the rest of my teammates.
“I get on really well with all the lads and I’m working as hard as possible so I can have an excellent start to the season. Everybody is working well at the moment, we’re very relaxed but we all want to do well this season to make up for last year and we’ll also see what happens in the transfer market this summer but at the moment we’re just concentrating on ourselves and working hard,” concluded the Italy Under 21 man.
De Sciglio is a very versatile player as he could play on both flanks of the defense and even in the middle when needed. With Milan reducing the squad, De Sciglio role could be very important in the next season.
