‘Match of the Titans’ preview: AC Milan-Panathinaikos

AC MILAN take on Panathinaikos FC on Friday night, as Allegri will look to win, finally.

The Rossoneri have yet achieved a first win under new coach Massimiliano Allegri and they will be hoping to win finally against the Greek side.

Pao have won the league last season and they are coming off an impressive victory over Inter Milan.

‘Milan told me that I am too expensive’
‘Pato will become even more decisive this year’

The American TV calls this ‘Match of the Titans’ and indeed this will meet two of the most successful clubs in their counties: AC Milan and Panathinaikos FC, in Detroit, Michigan; kick-off at 19:00 UK time.

AC Milan have still not won under new coach Massimiliano Allegri: a loss to newly promoted Serie B side A.S. Varese and two draws in the Emirates Cup last weekend versus Arsenal F.C. and Olympique Lyonnais.

But, it’s not all dark. Milan have been working for a little more than two weeks now but it seems that Allegri is doing a very good job. Although they are still not winning, the Rossoneri look fine and that’s without key players.

Ronaldinho, Andrea Pirlo, Massimo Ambrosini and Filippo Inzaghi have stayed home and didn’t make it to the US trip, as well as injured Primavera star Simone Verdi, who assisted Marco Borriello’s goal against Lyon.

Allegri uses the youngster well and some players really stood out in the Emirates Cup: Alexandre Merkel (18), Rodney Strasser (20), Giacomo Beretta (18) and Verdi (18) and it really seemed like there is great future at Milan.

The former Cagliari coach tried already to play 4-3-1-2 and 4-3-3 and it is believed he would stick with the 4-3-3 with Clarence Seedorf replacing injured Pirlo in midfield. You can find the full squad of Milan here.

Panathinaikos FC have won the Greek Championship and the Greek Cup last season and they are coming off a victory over Inter Milan to this encounter against Milan.

The twenty-time Greece champions defeated the Nerazzurri 3-2: Djibril Cissé got them into 2-0 early. Samuel Eto’o scored too but Sebastián Leto found the net and it was 3-1 in the break. Coutinho only reduced.

The Greek side looked good against the Italy Champions, despite Inter played with their second-best squad. However, they will be motivated to show the world they are stronger than Milan.

Pao have bought few reinforcements this summer and it is expected that like against Inter, they will line-up their strongest squad and will try as hard as they can to win.
