After Match Comments: AC Milan 0 – 0 FC Zurich

SWISS Champions FC Zurich beat AC Milan on Wednesday night. At the end of the 90 minutes, the players and the coach gave their say over the match, as they are very disappointed from the result and the performance, but know they must come back on work.

The Rossoneri found themselves unready as the first corner of Zurich got into the net, when there is no one to blame for that.

However, Milan had 85 minutes (the goal was on the 10th minutes, but the ref gave 5 minutes stoppage-time) to score the equalizer and maybe even win this game, but Milan like Milan in the last days, can’t score.

CL: AC Milan 0 – 1 FC Zurich, Nightmare Continues As Milan Lose Again

“We’re sorry about this situation because we are playing very bad and also the results confirm this. We cannot lose against Zurich and draw against Bari, let’s hope to come out of this situation,” said Milan defender Alessandro Nesta.

“We must return to work without making any trials, let’s all move forward together and try to come out of this together like in the past.

“We still created many goal scoring opportunities, but the ball did not want to go in. However we must not look for luck, but a good game.

“On the pitch I felt a hardening of the muscle, no particular problem, it’s just that in this period I played a lot.”

Milan attack, again, didn’t find the net, but they found the crossbar many times, as some certain moments could make the difference in this match and in the result. Milan could win, but the luck was not in their side.

“It’s a moment in which things are going badly. We created many chances but we did not finalize, a bit because the Zurich goalkeeper was good and a bit also because of bad luck,” World Cup winner Gianluca Zambrotta told about the match.

“It’s a period like this and we hope to come out of it soon. Differently to the match against Bari, there was a positive reaction because we created many goal scoring opportunities, whereas on Sunday we only suffered.

“We’re all international level players and we know that we must continue to work and always have a winning mentality. We just need a won game, also with a bit of luck, which gives us a bit of morale because this is a particular moment.

“On Sunday we go to Bergamo on a difficult pitch, it will be a particular game because they just changed coach. The important thing is to look forward now.”

Despite scored twice against Marseille in the opening round, Filippo Inzaghi has missed many chances against Zurich, and apparently, his head is not what it used to be. However, Pippo is still Pippo but he’s also sorry for Milan and the very disappointing defeat.

“There is disappointment because it seemed like everything was jinxed. I’m sorry because the team gave a lot especially in the second half, but we must accept the result on the pitch. It’s a moment a bit like this, we must improve all together.

“We still created a lot, but football is made up of small actions, small particulars. However, we’re all with Leonardo, all united and compact. However, we spent a lot of energies and obtained very little.”

While Massimo Oddo and Luca Antonini were benched by Coach Leonardo, 22-years-old Ignazio Abate played on the right-side of the defense. The youngster ran and shot many times, but like his team-mates, all of that comes to nothing when you look at the result.

“We are sad about yesterday’s defeat, we are very angry in fact… Compared to the match with Bari we made a step forward because even though we didn’t play well we at least created chances,” Abate explained.

“We must have faith and continue working hard during the week like we are already doing. We need some optimism around us. We have to do well to get the fans on our side.

“In important clubs like ours when things go bad the fans whistle but they can also take you high when there are victories…” he added and continued about Adriano Galliani who called up the players and the coach to an emergency meeting.

“Adriano Galliani is close to us and made us feel the trust of the whole club. We must not think of the voices surrounding us because they only hurt.

“Against Atalanta we need to have the same anger that they have. I’ve also played in teams that fought against relegation and they made speed their strong point. Atalanta may be organised like Bari, there will be suffering but I’m sure we can do better.”

AC Milan board has faith in him, but the fans and the press are feeling this is too much for this kind of a coach. Leonardo obtained only 8 points in league 11 points in all the competitions, but is he the right man to blame?

“It’s a complicated moment, there are many difficulties, no doubt about it. Conceding a goal after nine minutes did not help us, it put us in frenzy, we found it difficult to manage the ball.

“In the second half we tried to find the equalizer in an unorganized way,” said the 40-years-old.

“We did create, but without much order. In the set-pieces we suffer too much, we’re a team made to hurt, but today we need other things.

“We don’t cover the pitch well, we find it difficult psychologically and physically, and with the type of players we have, we cannot change much. We play a tactical setup made for the players we have, we must change and find new solutions.

“The team has the will but it fails, this is the problems, we must find alternatives to be more solid and competitive.’

“Nesta played all the games, he always pushed forward but he was very tired.

“Ronaldinho? He’s coming in well in the games, he changed. Now we must prepare ourselves at our best for the clash against Atalanta, a team who is similar to Bari in certain ways, they deserve great attention,” the coach concluded.

AC Milan will take on Atalanta on Sunday.

Nesta was the best yesterday. But Like Alessandro said, Milan have to come out of this and stay focus ahead of Atalanta

No one

I don’t know who to blame!
