Gattuso: “It is a burning defeat but we can’t afford to give up, we all lost together, not because of Donnarumma”

Gennaro Gattuso said the 4-0 score-line in the Coppa Italia final was a lying one and claimed the experience of Juve made the difference (‘we play with many young players, in the end we paid for it’).

Milan were dreaming of securing a place in the Europa League and lifting a major trophy by beating Juventus in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday evening.

But reality came and slapped the Rossoneri across the face. Milan did well in the first half and were on par with Juve, but in the second half, they absolutely collapsed.

In the span of 8 minutes, the game ended: Medhi Benatia scored the first of the Bianconeri in the 56′ minute and then in the 60′ minute, Douglas Costa’s shot from outside the box somehow beat Gianluigi Donnarumma. The young goalkeeper made another unbelievable mistake in the 64′ minute, with Benatia getting another goal. In the 76′ minute, Nikola Kalinić finally got on the scoresheet, but he scored to the wrong net, giving Juventus their 4-0 win and fourth consecutive Coppa Italia.

“Football is like that. The result does not reflect the performance, but when you make mistakes you pay,” Gattuso told Rai right after the final whistle. “For 56 minutes, we did what we had to and in the first half Juve never troubled us other than a Mandžukić header and we had two shots on goal.

“We have to accept it and realize we made our own errors and must accept them. Now we must look ahead. We committed some sins of youth. I too am a young coach [Gattuso is 40-year-old], I take all the responsibility, maybe there was too much pressure. I am learning, I make mistakes and have to figure out where we have gone wrong to improve. We shouldn’t look at the 4-0 result, but rather how we lost it and what we can do to improve. Not everything should be thrown away.

“I think it hurts more that we took 40,000 fans here and gave them a result like this. It’s a burning defeat. We’ll now have two games against sides who are in better mental shape than us and must try to get into the Europa League with better performances than this.”

The former Diavolo midfielder spoke to Rai again afterwards: “Conceding four goals in the final hurts, mistakes are part of the game but for 55-60 minutes we did what we had to do, the value of the two teams is different, the result is a lying one, but Juventus have something more.

“The performance? In the first half we had the more dangerous actions, in the first 10 minutes of the second half we were masters of the field, but football is made of episodes and Juventus have great quality. We prepared well for the game, we kept D. Costa in check and I didn’t see a team in trouble.

“Donnarumma? For my part there will be great protection. They have been errors, but we are not here to point the finger at Gigio. Everyone should take up responsibility, we didn’t lose because of Donnarumma. Reina [who is widely expected to join Milan as a free agent this summer]? At this moment Donnarumma is the Milan goalkeeper, the rest is down to the club. I am the coach, all I do is train the players who are put at my disposal. As far as I am concerned, Donnarumma is one of the most important goalkeepers in the world. It’s up to the club to decide what to do next.

“Europa League [Milan are currently in 6th place but could potentially finish 8th in the standings]? It burns in the head, in the heart and in the stomach. Now we play for everything in the last two weeks, we can’t throw it all away. We have to react and go to battle in these 180 minutes that remain.

“The shortcomings of Milan? There is no lack of a striker, but there are certain characteristics and experiences that cannot be bought at the supermarket, but instead are built with these defeats. We have to continue on this road and go in search of skilled people, that are an example inside the dressing room both in football aspects and in human aspects.”

Gattuso also held a presser: “In the first half it was an open game, we had the biggest opportunity, it was a well-played match and the 4-0 is a lying result. Even after the four goals we went in search of a goal, I cannot criticize anything about my guys, experience is not bought at the supermarket.

“We play with many young players and in the end, we paid for it. It’s part of the path that the team has to do. We didn’t lose because of Donnarumma. The end of the season? I have to do a lot of work on the players now, we have to look each other in the face and now for 180 minutes we don’t have to throw the good stuff away. We have to do the maximum against Atalanta who are well physically and with Fiorentina who play great football. This defeat burns me and the thousands of fans.

“The second half? At the end of the first I entered the field to calm the spirits and avoid yellow cards [Milan protested against referee Antonio Damato], but if we lost then it’s not the fault of the referee, we need to know how to play these games and adrenaline can often make bad jokes.

“Montella? After conceding four goals you ask me questions about Montella? It’s a team that needs to improve, we need to go and get 4 players who have mentality. To complete this squad, we need this type of players, but we have quality guys. Donnarumma? I can’t give myself an explanation for the mistakes, but we all lost together, we didn’t lose because of Gigio’s mistakes.

“I feel in discussion every day, I am being judged for what I do, I have to do my best every day. Europa League? There is concern that this negative result can affect us mentally. We must react immediately.”

Speaking to MilanTV, Rino said: “In the first minutes of the second half we still kept our composure, but then we made a mistake, we conceded a goal, then we made more mistakes and it happens, it’s part of the game. However, the team did what they had to do.

“The full-time score does not tell the whole story because if you think about the first half we created a clear-cut opportunity through Cutrone, whereas they didn’t have many chances: Mandžukić’s header and a shot by Dybala’s but I can’t think of other opportunities.

“We played a good match, but mistakes punished us and as I said, it’s part of the game. Juventus? This isn’t new. They always give you the feeling that they can knock you out at any time, because of the type of players they have, because of their mentality. It’s not a coincidence they have been winning all these years. There is a still a long way to go, we still have to work so much to be at their level.

“I’m convinced we are on the right path. We have such a young squad, I’m not making up their ages, they were born in ‘98, ‘97, ‘93, ’94. As I always say, you can’t buy experience on the market, experience is something you build through this type of games, through hard lessons, by performing well.

“The team framework is there, it’s been so long since we had such a young squad with so many young players who are our starters. They are capable of playing quality football and even on Wednesday we saw it when we had possession of the ball and we were passing it efficiently to each other.

“However, I repeat, we have the basis to start building something important and you need time. We will not be signing so many players every summer, instead, we need to trust these boys and continue to improve because they have the quality and a great mentality.

“The last two games? We will play against two tough sides. On one hand, there is Atalanta [on Sunday away from home at 18:00 CET] who always make it difficult for us because of our local rivalry. Then there is Fiorentina [on May 20 at San Siro] who have obtained great results in the last years, so it won’t be easy. Even if we had a tough start to the season and had to wait a lot to finally get to winning ways, we managed to bounce back and just because we lost, we can’t afford to give up.

“It is a burning defeat, it burns because we lost, it burns because we conceded four goals, because of the 25 to 30 thousand fans that came to support us and also for those who support Milan all around the world. Yet, we need to look forward, face our problems and find the way to solve them.

“After we conceded the fourth goal, I was afraid we would lose 7 or 8 to 0 because when you face such a strong team this is what happens. However, the boys kept trying and created three to four scoring chances… We played the match we wanted but we were unlucky at some points.

“We made mistakes but as I said, it’s part of the game. We really wanted to win it, the players, me, my staff, the fans. It was not a great night for anyone supporting Milan. Yet, we need to look ahead and strengthen our sense of belonging, be always hungry and become great again.”

Last night was supposed to be a celebration, but instead was a nightmare. Milan will have to pick themselves up and finish the season in 6th place to salvage anything from a bad campaign.

  1. Like I said if after next season milan has no clear direction and we still struggle to find our feet as we have been doing for so many years now, then next season i will bid farewell to this team. I would try to kill every passion i have had for the past 15years, i will stop going out of my way to watch the games, i won’t buy jerseys or whatsoever. It is too much hurt and pain for me.

    • This season, because of my very high hopes… I bought three customized Milan Jerseys directly from the Milan store, and other accessories all from the Milan store. I paid my premium cable subscription a year upfront all because of Milan, I streamed matches whenever I wasn’t home to watch, I went out there bragging to my friends who are mostly Barca, Madrid and Man-U fans about how my beloved Milan has resurrected, I was head over heels. Last night, they all reminded me and had a good laugh at me, but you know what? Even after all this suffering in the last 11 years, everyone still wonders what it is I see in this Milan that I still proudly wear my Jerseys out and about and still keep the faith. Fact and truth is, I don’t ever see myself supporting any other club, I am first a football fan before being a Milan fan, but Milan is the only team I can ever LOVE…. I understand you bro, do what’s best for you for your own sanity, but I hope one day Milan would make us all proud again….!!! I got married to Milan and I am keeping my marriage vows till the very end….!!!

      • Well said my friend! As much as these last few years have pained me I will continue to love this team through thick and thin! But Kalanic needs to go 🙂

        • Kalinics doesnt have to go.. kalinic doesnt decide if he is playing or not. Gattuso is.

I just hope some crazy guy kidnapps gattuso into a garage and tatu KALINIC on his forhead.

      • haso112 I feel you bro , is not easy to be a Milan fans i have been supporting Milan for so many years and I will also love them. I have suffered because of Milan . its not easy to watch Milan match where I am but I also find way to watch it. I believe Milan will be back to old Milan we use to know it pain everybody like Gattuso said.

      • I know exactly how you feel as I too share your sentiments and pain. I started getting messages yesterday from my friends and just had to take the usual talk I have been getting for the last decade. We have to sit back and put things into context though and realize where we went wrong and how this team can improve. There were two goal keeping errors which cost us and the own goal which all could have been avoided. As for the first goal then I feel that Benatia should not have gotten so much space to place his header in the corner. 1-0 down we could have still salvaged something to get back into the game. Our team need experience and world class quality especially our attack. We are lacking creativity and quality in the final third which is no secret. I don’t agree with many fans who think that Belotti is the answer as it is clear he is a one season wonder and we can’t make the same mistakes we made last season on transfers. With Bonucci and Alessio we have two solid CB’s to set the foundation and honestly I really don’t feel Rodriguez is Milan quality. Moving forward Milan has to invest in a world class striker and midfielder to make our team stronger. If we can get a winger as well it will surely improve our overall quality and depth. Let us rally behind the team for our next two matches to hope we secure the Europa League spot and then we will talk about who we should sell next season. FORZA MILAN!!!

      • Very well said bro … i got married to milan at the very young age of 12 in 1992!! So ive saw the very good! The good , the bad and the very very ugly! 🙁 but like you said its a marriage for life .. and what ever happens ill always love and stick by milans side

      • I did expect us to end up around where we are. or atleast outside of champions league spots this season, its completly normal for a brand new team. I see this project over 3 years, if they have not buildt a working team by then, they are failing. But to expect success in the first season isnt fair nor easy. This was year zero. Some fine tuning must be done and we can compete. all we need is some more pace on the wings and someone who can drive the team in the center, create and dictete the play. and a striker. 4 players max. Its probably not good enough to dominate the league, but its good enough for us to compete and get us back in to champions league. Once we are there we can build a team which can dominate the league. 3 years of cl football = 150m euro.

      • It’s really sad mate. We need these type of games, which will highlight a poor mercato by the management. I’d rather lose by this margin than a convincing 1:0. At least you will know where you stand and that’s Atalanta-Fiorentina level. At least you will know that you must rebuild the squad so that such displays like these won’t be repeated.

    • I understand how you feel bro…..it really hurts . Till we get world class players, we will keep seeing this mediocre performance the team.

    • Spot on Spencer, this team has no clear direction, for example you can see in the summer how they were buying players without any plan of formation or position of the players, just wasting money basicly with out any clear concept of what kind of team are they truying to build, just amateur management. And i dont see how will this summer be any different and make any improvments in the team, they just go for who ever is avalible no matter if that type of player is not needed or whatever.
As for watching Milan, i dont know how many trojans my pc got from watching those streams. Since no one is brodcasting Seria A its constant struggle to find streams to watch games online. Add to this that Italian football in general is unwatchble (constant scandals, low quality, fixed games), i watch Seria A just for Milan and when they act like amateurs, still cant even hire a proper coach…i will agree with you that its time for farewell.

      • Don’t stream like that, I will tell you..get an Android app called Live Net Tv…then check the match broadcasters from International Coverage section of Livefootball tv…then search the broadcasting channel in Live Net Tv App…thats how I watch every Milan match from India…sometimes I get Arabic commentry but still at least I get to watch…Simple…A TV app like Mobdro or Live Net Tv and list of bradcasters from livefootball.net website…mix and match…

        • So what if people pick on you, that’s plain childish and worth ignoring. You suppose to support your team regardless of what people say or think right?

I hold my head up high win or lose although I agree with you and critise also as I cannot agree with some directions this club has taken

          Forza Milan!

  2. Ok, i havent read any football news in at least 2-3 months and just now i read that rino got 3 yrs contract extension. Is milan mgmt trying to sell milan cheap to elliott or something? What purpose does this extension serve? Do they think rino is gonna pull a klopp and make suso and kalinic fast, creative goalscoring monsters out of the blue (suso IS slow and some chicken nuggets tried arguing this fact with me long time ago but thats another topic. As for kalinic, well) and take milan to ucl final in 3 yrs? This guy tried to pull a liverpool and asked milan to sit back to absorb juve’s attack and kill them with fast counter attack. Yeah because to play with 4-3-3 u have to have skillful dominating playmakers in mf and/or fast skillful wingers and milan DEFINITELY have both (ive been saying this 4-3-3 crap for years but, again, thats another topic) and because the last 2 times milan beat juve they went toe to toe with them. Brilliant reasoning. and his comments about juve all this time, pure inferiority complex.
Here’s how it should be next season:
    Owners: arabian or american investors
Ceo: peter kenyon or someone on his level
    SD: goddamn maldini. Who else?
    Coach: conte/sarri
    Gk: perin
    Lb: darmian
    Cb: bonucci
    Cb: roma
    Rb: conti
    Dm: biglia/loca
    Lcm: hakan
    Rcm: gundogan/pastore
    lw: douglas costa
    Rw: fekir/depay
    St: dzeko

    • 4-3-3 save Milan from bottom half of the table to 6th. You clearly didn’t see any football in 3 months, maybe more

      • and regarding 4-3-3 here is my choice:
GK : Reina (low cost solution, we need to save money for another position)
LB : Ghoulam (Sarri will leave Napoli, and their player seems gonna leave too)
CB : Bonucci (Meh, but we need to save money)
CB : Romagnoli (still have future in football)
RB : Conti (If he stays healthy)
LCM : Emre Can (he is free agent ffs, what are we waiting for?)
        DM : Locatelli (No brainer)
RCM : Rabiot (energetic box to box player, on loan maybe?)
LWF : Guedes (He is young, fast, and deadly)
CF : Falcao (we need experience leader at attack)
RWF : Dembele (He isn’t first choice at Barca, so why not?)

      • to question Milan10 not seeing any football…. if you check his previous comments you will know his experience in football is VAST af.
although @milan10, how are we supposed to get Douglas costa? doubt he will join us and doubt he will leave juve. same for gundogan. but the other players would be great, too bad our management now is too incompetent.

        • Aww ur too generous with ur compliment mate.
Regarding costa, is he juve or bayern player? I honestly dont know. Those teams like to trade wingers. What i do know is, if milan could get bonucci and renato from juve and bayern for right prices then surely they can get costa. And if other brazilians in their prime like oscar, hulk and ahem, pato are willing to play in china for money then surely milan can make costa play for them for money too. If not him then keita balde or even martial would be nice as well.

          • well deserved;-)
Im pretty sure he is on loan, but with an option/obligation to buy for 30 mill. 30 mill is a steal for a player of his quality, so if its just an option, I hope we can slide in and make a better offer! Like you say, for the right price we might have a chance. Although Galliani would be able to do it, i doubt mirabelli will…
            Baldé/martial would indeed be nice!

      • As a matter of fact i still DO watch football. I watched 4-3-3 regulars like liverpool, roma, madrid (i know its 4-4-2 on paper but its de facto 4-3-3), juve and maybe bayern completely destroy each other in ucl. Those teams have fast skillful wingers and playmaking cm therefore 4–3-3 suits them like proctologist’ gloves.
But u digress. So u think 4-3-3, not rino, saves milan? Wow i didnt know that. So 4-3-3 saves milan from morontella who mostly used 4-3-3 and only used 3-5-2 etc because fans demanded it in his 1,5 seasons tenure at milan? So 4-3-3 (plus 200m “investment”) saves milan from relegation zone and take them to their rightful place, SIXTH, exactly like last season? Wow, magical. Simply magical. The same 4-3-3 that has been saving milan from evil ucl spots for goddamn FIVE seasons straight? Mamma mia.
Tell me more mate. Pretty please, with cherry on top, tell me more.

        • I have screenshot about your moron suggestion that causing totally wrong earlier this season. But, I’ll save it for your latest stupid reply. That’s not only cherry on top, that’s piece of gold. LOOOL

          • Ouch, a screenshot? I bet u use it as wallpaper. Obsessed much?
Let me tell u whats wrong with milan’s so called 4-3-3. Its supposedly a formation that allows fluid attacking football because it covers most ground on the pitch and u’ll always have at least 2-3 teammates around u to pass the ball to. But milan, they still implement strategy of long balls from behind and crosses from both flanks when they only have 1 st as targetman. They also dont have pivot point in the middle, a xavi, laudrup or modric who can dominate the game. Therefore its extremely easy to defend vs milan. Mark suso and hakan out of the game and milan is done. U dont have to worry about through balls from the middle because no one in milan mf has the vision to pull that feat. Roma allowed suso so much space, probably out of arrogance, and they lost at home. Not arsenal, and definitely not juve. They knew better.
This long balls and crosses bullcrap might have worked for bad english teams in ‘70 or ‘80 but this is milan goddammit. Fiorentina 3-7 milan, milan 4-0 barca, milan 4-1 bayern etc. ive seen so many matches where milan displayed extremely attractive fluid attacking football i’ll be damned if i stay silent when milan implement long ball strategy that even modern epl midtable teams wouldnt touch with 10 feet pole. Disgusting

        • Agree with you Milan10. Like you i watch football and especially clubs likes L’pool,Borussia Dortmund,Conte’s Chelsea 3-4-3, their style of play intrigues me. Milan fan since i was 7(1994). Through years one thing is certain… 4-3-3 is Milan’s Doom. We got lucky to get to 6th place last year, not thanks to Montella or 4-3-3. Players bought last year are not made for 4-3-3, but for 3-5-2 or 4-3-1-2. Fans demanded 3-5-2 because they knew players bought suit it,however Montella doesn’t know how to use it,since he is not Conte. 4-3-1-2,4-3-2-1,4-4-2 were Milan’s tactics that always worked and brought us trophy’s. Suso is slow, selfish and OTP(one trick pony). Gattuso does bring morale, but he is not tactician and too much stubborn to put Suso on bench, switch to 4-3-1-2 and play Silva with Cutrone as duo strikers. Also, moment Sevilla kicked Montella, switched back to 4-4-2,they beat RM 3-0. Hello from Croatia.:D

  3. Two years ago in the coppa final, we played beautiful fluent football and undeservedly lost in extra time. 200 million euros later – we come to a crushing and humiliating defeat. You can see why Berlu wanted to keep Brocchi. Say what you want about him,, but the man knows football. And also, you can see why Brocchi didnt want to stay on, he knew this team was beyond saving.
I honestly dont know what’s in store for us in the future, the players are young, either they will be crushed by this defeat, or they will grow from this and become more mentally strong, I find it hard to see them bounce back and grind out a win against a solid Atalanta side. Suso and Donna – especially Suso – has to leave as they are the ones we can get a nice sum for, although I doubt we will get more than 50 million for Donna tbh, Raiola just wants him out of here and after his showing last night his stock may plummet, but I hope Im wrong. And we have to have a smart mercato, but I doubt that happening with Mirabelli in charge who cant even follow up on his plans. If we didnt sign Bonu we would’ve probably have gotten Auba or Belott as planned. This is what frustrates me, if you have a clear vision, STICK TO IT. Bonu overall hasnt been a bad signing, I also think that Romagnolis’s upswing in his performances are due to him, but who knows, maybe he would’ve developed this way with Musa alongside him too.
Anyways, we’ll see what happens, i see no hope for this team, unless a solid mercato is done.

  4. Gatusso, honestly if I were you, I won’t be giving any press conference after that distasteful, pathetic and embarrassing match you guys played last night. I won’t even be able to make a complete sentence….!

  5. Where do you start after watching a horror show like that? I don’t know what was worse, the performance or my wife watching with me pretending to care!!
The first goal was a great header even though Roma lost his man he still had plenty to do and it wasn’t an easy chance
Donnarumma who had done really well completely fell apart, the second goal was a routine save any keeper should make, his decision to try catch it instead of palming it away considering that’s what he had been doing on other shots which was easier to catch must have the goalkeeping coach’s scratching their heads, the third goal was also like watching a Sunday league keeper, what was he thinking, last night knocked at least 30 million off his value, no top club who play massive games on a regular basis are going to trust him, one mistake and you loose, he’s made a lot of them this year but the eyes of the world was watching last night
Calabria and Ricardo were terrible and offered nothing going forward, Ric Rod didnt know what to do once he passed the half way line so he passed it backwards
Bonnuci disappeared once the second goal went in and he’s meant to be a leader?
Locatelli I thought did well but his partner Kessie was awful, a headless chicken running around foolishly, he’s all strength but nothing more
Calhanoglu, Suso and Jack did ok but created very little and Crotone is never going to be a top class striker
Gattuso should not be here he’s not ready, I honestly don’t think our squad is as bad as there made look and I’m a firm believer that a top manager could give us at least an extra 15 points a season and then add more quality in terms of players to gain more points
Wenger is free now and wants a new challenge for another 2 years at management level, why not give it to him with us? He’s famous for developing young players and given our squad is the youngest in Italy i think he’s a no brainer
People are going to comment here about selling players this and buying players that but without a world class manager who mentors them it’s not going to matter
I love Gattuso the player but he needs to go and go now so we can prepare for next season, we haven’t had a manager since Carlo left and anyone who thinks we don’t need one is delusional
He leaves a 38m young striker on the bench for most of the season while giving countless chances to a long useless bean poll who doesn’t know how to score in a brothel
It’s also unforgivable to have used Musacchio so little this year, why not try him in Kessie’s place? He’s far more composed he’s a much better passer and would add an obvious defensive cover to our backs, Musacchio for me is a footballer first before a defender as he likes having the ball at he’s feet, he’s comfortable with it and can see a pass Kessie on the other hand uses his imagination to try passes to nobody or hits it to far ahead of the player or to far behind him
Anyway let’s try get back to winning ways Sunday so we can at least have European football to offer potential new players even if it is the Mickey Mouse version

    • Mauri should play instead of Kessie. He must be scratching his head witnessing Kessie making so many mistakes and stil not get benched.

  6. This season, because of my very high hopes… I bought three customized Milan Jerseys directly from the Milan store, and other accessories all from the Milan store.

    • Nice one bro… though the outcome of the match was not what we all expected but Milan will always be Milan. Let have hope for next season and the next 2 matches coming our way to make Europa. Milan Till Eternity!!!

    • Same as that, I’m from Ireland and back in the 80’s there was a show on our national broadcaster called “Football Italia” which was on a Monday night from 7pm until 8pm showing highlights of the Seria A weekend matchs, that’s where I first seen Milan and from then I’ve been hooked, all my family and friends support English teams as we’re flooded with coverage of the premier league over here in Ireland but I’d never change and I always have and always will support Ac Milan and go to the San Siro as much as I can, ya know something I’ve promised myself once I retire I’m going to buy a season ticket and fly over at least once a month
It’s not easy support us at the moment because once you get used to winning and boy did we win it’s hard to see us so far behind especially Juventus because I hate them passionately but I still have to admire how well they’ve done
Haso112 what’s your view on Gattuso? I’ve said here a few times he needs to go and we need a top level coach, how about Wenger? I think he’s perfect given how good he is at developing young players while not breaking the bank on transfers like other managers do, he’s done it the hard way while Pep, Mourinho and co buy there way out of trouble

      • I am 101 percent sure the management are already having their regrets as to the contract extension of Gatusso, they got way ahead of themselves. After all those monies spent by the Chinese, the only mistakes they made were…

        1. Fassone & Mirabelli – These guys to me are rookies, they’ve not achieved anything over the years to attain that position they hold, the Chinese should have looked for the very best, the new project would have attracted well proven guys or weren’t there other options out there at the time? I really miss Ariedo Braida, that guy was the real man behind the scenes back then for all those great signings which Galliani always took credits for.

        2. Biggest mistake was keeping Montella on when it was obvious we needed a proven manager to kick off the new project & when it became obvious we were headed nowhere with him, they decided to try Gatusso on a temporary basis, & Gatusso in a little time gave the team a soul again & immediately, they thought we found the Messiah, big mistake, they should have waited to the end of the season, especially now that Sarri would be leaving Napoli, a coach we’ve always wanted and admired. Gatusso isn’t a flexible coach, I wonder what he was expecting from Kalinic again after all those horrible performances, he even defends him at every chance and gets angry at the fans for seeing the obvious truth and voicing out their displeasure.

Now to Arsene Wenger, to be honest as much as I like the fact that he’s good at developing young players, but the structure of Italy’s football isn’t like that of the English league, I feel Arsene Wenger will struggle big time in Italy, but that’s just my opinion. My choice would be Sarri, cause he’s proven himself in the Italian league and he’s also not a big spender when it comes to signings, he signs smart. Sarri is a good coach/manager.

  7. Don’t be fine weather friend. I am AC Milan fan any day… anytime……I can’t share my love with any other club…That is abominable to me. …Even if this club go to relegation… I am still Milan.. If Milan stops to exist, then no more passion for football anymore for me.

  8. i just imagine if B&G still running the club without worry of debt + 200m to spend on players, Chinese should invest only as shareholders, to close the debt & transfer budget, they know nothing about football & how to run it…

    • The Chinese merely own the club and put up the money there’s two Italians that control the day to day running of the club and buy the players, you can’t criticise the Chinese for poor transfers, that’s all on F&M

  9. I am wondering how rino managed to pull off press conference after humiliating defeat…..plain and simple rino you are too afraid to press high tempo game and tbh I didn’t see any fluidity in first half except for few moments in between first 12 to 30 mins or so. Tactics were all wrong allowing juve to keep ball and inviting them close to our box and then thinking of counter attacking. When we all know this team is miles slow for counter attacking football…..you lack experience just like you mentioned and you were afraid to loose 7-0 or so after 4 goals that just sumps it up……lot of respect for you as milan legend but coaching milan is not your cup of tea….now ppl will bash me but rino simply can’t handle pressure….as far as players are concerned we all know they failed big time but they are not that worst off to suffer defeat like this or for the matter of fact our league performances…..I became milan fan in 1993 but it’s some thing about milan that’s stops me changing teams….I loved watching football because of milan and I will remain a true Rossoneri till the my last breath…..

  10. It just feels like we are cursed. I have tried to give up reading news on Ac Milan. I have even used filters in my laptop and cell phone since March, 2018. But just could not give up totally and yesterday’s result was devastating and a shock. I think we are going to have a hard time getting up from this defeat. It seems to me the whole morale is so low. People have forgotten to win matches. Back in nineties, it was a habit to win anything and everything. I hope we can go back to glory days again in my life time.

  11. All who actually thought we were going to win yesterday are passionate fans but delusional ones as well. Although Milan were motivated to win but Juventus were equally motivated to win + they have immense quality players who each and everyone can make a difference individually and they play as a team. I love AC Milan and wanted them to win but knew there was like 1% chance of us winning that is why losing didn’t surprise me at all. Until we become a team and with quality don’t keep expectations too high that when they fall you lose your love for the team. You have watched enough football to know when you have a chance and when you don’t. Keep realistic expectations and maybe someday that realistic expectation will be the League title and CL title, but that’s not any time soon. Support your team in ups and downs and there is really no way but up from here. Forza Milan!

    • Sir….! I understand your perspective, but then I feel it’s a little too harsh calling people delusional if they expected us to win. This is football, anything happens and if it’s been done before, it sure can be done again you can play ugly and win and you can play beautifully and lose, remember UCL 2005 finals, if anybody on this planet that day told you that we would end up losing that game after that first half and they asked you to bet your house on it, I am sure you would have bet even more than your house on it… That’s the beauty of football, it’s all about the approach, our approach was very very poor. Now, if we had lost by a goal or two and maybe scored one and we saw the boys killing themselves on the pitch to prove a point to Juve that they ain’t walk overs, it won’t have hurt as much as losing by four goals, that’s where it all falls apart… I don’t ever watch a match expecting Milan to lose, even if we are playing against Barcelona or Real Madrid. It’s 11 vs 11 and yes quality of the team matters, but the approach also does, I’ve lived long enough to see a lot of miracles happen in football, it’s all about the approach because we didn’t get to the finals by chance, we worked very hard and beat some of the best teams to get there and then we got to the finals and completely forgot we were playing a final….

  12. Dear Chinese just kick our coach ass and the one who got him plus any player who wants to leave and we all know who the fuc** they are … than just get sarri and you will miracles .

  13. Milan.
    Whatever the outcome is, Milan.
    Never dying.
A crushing defeat. But these crushing defeats are extremely important. How old are our players? These defeats are the foundation to something magnificent.
    Don’t believe it? Fine.
    I do.
    So, yes. Milan.

  14. This is a game where i do not blame the coach. Donnarumma howlers put the knife in our chest. Next juve are too powerful .look at the subs they put on compared to ours. We played on par for 50 minutes sure. But their class in the forwards came out while ours were chasing shadows.

Maybe i get bashed for this but i like cutrone as much as the next person but he should not have started this match. In a 4 3 3 he offers nothing. Hes a fantastic poacher and gets into space but we arent getting those chances. Unfortunately hes not the type of player to get the ball facing opposite of goal and can draw the defenders out of position and be able to spread it wide or beat a player to get back into a scoring position. His touches and dribbling are poor and thats why he would excel in a different formation like a 4 3 1 2 and with a crwative player who can pass a ball into space for him to score like inzaghi used to.

In a 4 3 3 u need a player like ibra that takes two defenders away and has the strength to hold them off and be able to to turn or spread the play and now the defence is out of position and the wingers now have work to do. Cutrone had 10 touches with his feet in the first half, buffon had 11. He is not getting his dangerous balls so he becomes useless. He has so much time to improve but he would play better with two strikers as an inzaghi type player. But for next year we need a deadly striker and if we get zaza as that i will just cry. We conceded 4 but none of them that the defence could do..maybe the first better marking on benatia but the others nothing to do with defence. The score line sure makes it seem juve dominated in which we didnt cause in truth we beat ourselves.defence is fine. Kessie showed yet again that he works and he tried to do something but if your middield is getting domonated therew not much more u can do. So for next year we need another good mid maybe a back up mid and at least two strikers who xan truly make a difference ..if they cant be world class id rather get balotelli than zaza

  15. this defeat sure leaves a sour aftertaste. but one positive is that though we lost, juve needed the help of young milan players to score 3 goals. And save for the errors, we actually played as if we really wanted to win. We also have a bunch of young guns all round, even d coach na virgin…calabria, locatelli, donna, hakan, suso, kessie, romag, the average age yesterday was about 22/23 and given time and addition of some top quality CM/Winged forwards, this team will achieve greater results soon

  16. I would understand if they brought 11 new players SISTEMATICALLY, knowing what is needed for a certain system/formation that was agreed and they need time to settle

For 200 millions no proper playmaker, no decent striker or wingers

What kind of formation or system were they planing to play with players they’ve got?

Nothing was and still isn’t clear

  17. @millanellofm 4-3-1-2 had always been our favourite formation ,but all of a sudden it disappeared, for those that are talking of stoping milan let me tell you milans love is a drunkiness without wine.No matter what happen even to seria c i will always be a millanista BASTA. The truth about this game is that JUVE has quality players they made good deals by getting douglas costa, khedira, matuildi, howedes, pijanic, pjanca, and orsirini, and many more ,look at our management the kind of deals they make poor and medicore players, stefan de vrij will be inter player very soon i guess the same goes to rafihna. i don’t know why Fassone and Mirabelli don’t make such move instead kalinic loan with obligation to buy, borini,.we need quality players both in depth and in field.our second 11 must be a killer squad .But the way things are i dont see it happening.is a shame berlusconi lead us into this mess by selling to a poor man.

  18. I don’t think we need a revolution a new 11, We got two rookies as coach this season, we’ve got from Montella who lost against everyone, Gattuso after Arsenal drawing against everyone. Kalinic and Borini playing every match, playing 433 without wingers with the one of the youngest teams in Europe and almost a new starting 11 and we still were on the battle for UCL a few weeks ago makes me say WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!

I think most of you guys are overreacting, almost everyone was happy with Kessie and Biglia, some said that Kalinic was an improvement lol. While players like RR, Silva, Hakan and Suso needs time. Hakan started to play good after the winter break. Suso is developing his right foot who will make him very unpredictable. And Silva I’ll give him at least 3 seasons. Why can Kalinic start and not score and Silva gets benched? Silva is young and has no Serie A experience he needs playtime FFS

We all know Fassobelli could’ve done better in the mercato, Bonucci was a steal and we needed a “leader”, RR is a young left footed wingback we were looking for something like that, Biglia was a back up for Monto who gets injury every season. Borini was a bench warmer he played so many minutes because of that stupid 433.

I honestly blame Gattuso I no longer see the high pressing game, Montolivo Abate and Silva should’ve started, let’s be honest Loca, Cutrone and Calabria are not ready for a final against a team who has dominated italy for the last seven years they are ready for league matches but not these kind of games.

I don’t think is a good idea to get rid of: Montolivo, Donnarumma, Suso, Silva, Gabriel
Vergara, Mauri should be loaned, while Kalinic, Borini Antonelli, Gomez should be released for their contract.

    • I kind of agree with what you say about players but not about the management. They are a bunch of amateurs. In Serie A you don’t give many minutes to Loca against modest teams but you pick him in a final against Juve!! You keep playing Kalinic who does absolutely nothing other than wastes the space of a player on the pitch, or Cutrone who again showed how limited he is. That boy is nothing special and not Milan quality for the level we want Milan to be. All this whilst Silva warms the bench. If Silva goes to another team within max 2 season he’ll shine. That and with the rest only shows how limited Rino and fassobeli are!! We’ve consolidated again this season the status of an average team. Carrying on this way we’ll never obtain more!!

  19. I know exactly how you feel as I too share your sentiments and pain.

  21. “We all lost not only Dollaruma” he says but not all earn €6m a year net but Dollaruma does!! He’s nothing exceptional, not man of the match, not saving a match for us. He’s performance is well below average. But Rino keeps protecting this fraud of a player. Same with Cutrone and Kalinic, they play and they do nothing special to help the team. Meanwhile Silva warms the bench. Poor Milan, shit management, coach and most of the players and on top we have enourmous debts. Not a great future ahead!!

  22. Milan on Politano? He is a bench player at most, same as Bonaventura but nowadays every average player think he’s worth of being a key player in Milan due to current situation and lack of champagne&caviar football

We’re no longer a fearsome team from the past but at least target class players or soon-to-be class players to climb back on top

Jesus, signings like Politano or Zaza are for clubs battling for Europe League at most. Oh wait…

    • Yes… very sad, but I’ve been following politano, he is pretty good, still young it’s a smart buy, him over Borini any day.

I remember the day when Milan signed Bonaventura I felt the same and look now Juve want him and I still believe is a shitty player

      • Comparing him to Borini just sums it up. Let’s just bring back Bacca if possible and save the money that we are rumoured ready to spend it on a striker and just use it to buy Pastore and good wingers. That will suppy the strikers with service.

  23. Who is blaming Rhino he has no hand in getting those footballers,I could remember when Fassoni and Mirabelli said they were working together with Montella in getting these guys, they did mercato based on Montella wants, do you think giving klopp or Pep this team he will achieve more, it’s unfortunate for Milan in hand those two duos, give this kind of money to Gillani I believe we will be contesting for scudetto. We have poor management I wonder why Chinese love them the they did to intermilan until they are out, it shows that they are not good in getting quality footballer. There are so many good footballers out there ready to leave their teams, Yaya Toure, Emre Can, Ilkay, Pastore etc, Let Kalinic leave cos each match he played we always play like one man down, I don’t blame Rhino cos Montella and Fassobelli imposed him on us. I keep my fingers crossed till transfer window with hope we get good management starting from there. Forza Milan

  24. As far as players are concerned Cutrone is having his break out season so it will be unfair to put blame on him he did much better than what was expected but others failed big team….it’s simple team was build in haphazard manner; management kept on buying with out realising where to fit in….with sort of players we got I am sure we deserve better standings at the moment but amateur coaches expecting them to do miracles is far cry from reality….just read we are linked with Sarri now this is something I am looking forward too…..it’s about time management should look in mirror and decide they all start from scratch and start a new project sell few buy some and start from the scratch…..

  25. SELL
Dollarrumma, Suso, Bonaventura, Niang, Kalinic, Abate, Bacca, Antonelli, Gomez, Montolivo and Borini.

    BUY
Oh fck!! We have to pay Elliott…..
